  1. (sigh.) Sorry to change the tasty topic du jour. But news has been a firehouse of bad. There’s stuff you can miss, and stuff you really shouldn’t.

    Here’s a few

    Keep READING…COMMENTS DOWN:

SUSSMAN had a keycard to FIB’s HQ (NY Post linked beneath LOUD GRAPHIC.)

We really are a Banana Republic. (Or maybe the worst banana among all pretensions towards being a Republic.)

  2. That is a fun video about Sushi which I have mispronounced since it appears that the delightful chef is saying ‘Sue See’ while I always said ‘Sue She’ now I also have a better idea about the correct way to eat Sushi, I was eating it upside down or something. Thank you Neo for the fun stuff.

  3. The past several years…in a nutshell…for those of us who wondered how we ever got here…
    “The Big Swindle Of 2020–22”—
    https://www.zerohedge.com/economics/big-swindle-2020-22

The main question is HOW to get out of the current mess.
Though to do that one has to first understand how it happened, decide who’s responsible and then draw the appropriate conclusions.

The main problem, though, is that there are major players who are working overtime trying to totally obfuscate what’s happening and cover up how it happened so as to escape responsibility for it.

Actually, they’re not so much trying to escape responsibility for it as doing their utmost to blame it all on their political opponents.

…so that there can be no possible understanding (so they hope, at least)—only rampant hate and demonization.
And with no possible understanding can come no possible way to fix the problem. (Put another way, the “way” to “fix” the problem is to demonize those who disagree with you; don’t see eye to eye with you; know EXACTLY what you’re trying to do.)

…So that in fact the crisis will only be exacerbated and will likely spawn new crises. (Sound familiar?)
    Now THAT’s quite a policy!

File under: Palestinian Rules all the way down.

  4. And that highly-refined Obama (AKA “Biden”) humor kicks in once again!

“Biden Sends Threat-Letters To Big Oil: Help Ease “Putin Price Hike” Or Face Our Tools”—
    https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/biden-sends-threat-letters-big-oil-help-alleve-putin-price-hike-or-face-our-tools
    Opening grafs:
‘President Biden intensified attacks against the nation’s largest oil companies, writing an “angry” letter to the heads of ExxonMobil, Chevron, BP America, Shell USA, Phillips 66, Marathon, and Valero to boost US refinery output….
‘ “I understand that many factors contributed to the business decisions to reduce refinery capacity, which occurred before I took office,” [emphasis in original] Biden writes in hopes that everyone is an idiot and incapable of grasping how how green policies have crippled the US energy sector….”
‘ “My administration is prepared to use all reasonable and appropriate federal government tools and emergency authorities to increase refinery capacity and output in the near term, and to ensure that every region of this country is appropriately supplied,” the president escalated for dramatic effect.
‘Biden, always happy to blame other but never himself, ended the letter by also scapegoating Putin – not just energy companies – for “driving up costs for consumers.”
‘ “Vladimir Putin’s Price Hike and are driving up costs for consumers. I appreciate your immediate attention to this issue and your efforts to mitigate the economic challenges that Viadimir Putin’s actions have created for American families.”
‘In effect, Biden is blaming energy companies for his own failures as a president, and not only that – he is also going to beg and grovel in Saudi Arabia while bashing his own domestic producers….’

    Such a kidder….

  5. More on “Biden”‘s incredible achievements and acute financial acumen:

    https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/rabo-fed-must-act-because-us-losing-power-dollar-global-collateral-commodities

    “…Must Act…”?
“…Because The US Is Losing The Dollar’s Power As Global Collateral To Commodities…”??

Hmmm. Maybe that’s the whole point!

  6. I realize that some items of sushi do not involve uncooked fish, but I don’t know which ones, so I avoid the whole problem by avoiding sushi.

  7. }}} I realize that some items of sushi do not involve uncooked fish, but I don’t know which ones, so I avoid the whole problem by avoiding sushi.

To each their own, but this seems unneeded. If uncooked fish was actually a serious problem, the population of Japan would be far far lower.

Not to say that there is no such thing as bad sushi, but you can usually tell a low-rent sushi place. In general, if it isn’t their primary sale item (e.g., grocery store or convenience store) no. Just No.

You can also tell by the quality of their rice. If you go there, and order some sushi, and the rice does not stick together well, they don’t know how to do sushi.

And ask people. You know someone who likes sushi. Ask them what places are good. Someone who actually does know sushi can tell you which places are the best in the area.

And finally, as with any other restaurant. Look around. If the place does not look clean as hell, turn around and walk back out.

I eat sushi — with raw fish — all the time. Never gotten sick. Not once.

  8. It’s true that with the popularity of sushi skyrocketing worldwide, the incidence of parasitic infection has also, well, shot up.

Some may indeed enjoy the extra “protein” and/or insist that it’s a small price to pay for such a delectable treat (though not all are blown away by it); nonetheless, if one feels that such additional protein is not their thing, there’s always vegetarian sushi…though I’m not sure what the sushi master in the clip above would think about that.
(Wouldn’t be surprised if he skewered the customer with one of those sushi blades for even asking for it…without forgetting to smile politely, of course…)

  9. The Fed raises the fed funds rate by 75 basis points a couple hours ago. Another 75 basis point increase is likely, followed by 50 point increases.

I guess that is good news (A 100 point hike would have been better. The market response is up.) though the Fed is also saying that they don’t expect to get inflation under control anytime soon. The market rally is probably a head fake, or selling opportunity.

  10. Thanks, ObloodyHell. Good advice. Alas, for me, it’s a texture thing, not because I actually think the sushi place will poison me. I also avoid (cooked) mussels, and oysters, whether cooked or raw.

  11. Are there any Navy vets among Neo’s commenting crew? I just saw a news item about how the USN has fired four commanding officers and an advisor in less than a week for what the Navy terms “loss of confidence.” The NY Post says, “While it is not uncommon for a military branch to relieve top commanders of their positions due to a ‘loss of confidence,’ departures typically are spread out over a prolonged period.” All five fired officers presumably identify as men; three are white and two are officers of color.

    https://nypost.com/2022/06/15/navy-fires-five-officers-over-loss-of-confidence/

I have no idea what’s going on in the Navy, so I’d appreciate some enlightenment from commenters with experience in this branch of the military. There’s been so much bad news lately from all kinds of directions that this news item seems like one more sign or trouble.

  12. Barry Meislin (ABOVE) segues from my post, looking towards the future, thusly:
“ The past several years…in a nutshell…for those of us who wondered how we ever got here…
    “The Big Swindle Of 2020–22”—

I believe there are three step ahead in the US. Larry Correia (?) in March opined that Americans distrust with every citadel of authority is crumbling.

This metastasising defines the most current and paramount trend. Look for expressions of cynicism to spread and totalise, perhaps next year.

If the Truth of the Evils the Ruling Class has unleashed upon us get out, then the next stage of reaction will set in: OUTRAGE.

AND RAGE AGAINST ALL AUTHORITY for their culpability.

If that over the horizon wave sets in, then, and only then comes Public Vengeance. A leader who then boldly names the guilty appears, and outlines a course of action to reverse these many Evils.

It’s gonna be a long, long two or three years waiting. So many Ruling Class citadels of power and influence are Dead Set on keeping the masses dumb and dimmer than mere denial could explain — so many trillions of rampage in tax payer monies to steal!

  13. Quibble alert: that would be “…American’s trust in…” right? (I.e., instead of “…American’s distrust with…”)
    – – – – – – – – – –
Regarding the Navy query, above, I’m not in any position to say one way or the other, but I would ASSUME that it’s a Covid-19 vax issue. (Obviously, I could certainly be wrong about this.)

  14. Re: Sushi

As a San Franciscan I loved sushi. Still do, though after I moved to New Mexico I had my doubts about consuming raw fish 800 miles from the ocean.

I made inquiries and was told that raw fish for sushi is flash frozen at 20 degrees below zero before shipping which is supposed to kill any critters. So I have favorite sushi restaurants here in the desert and have had no trouble.

For those still squeamish about raw fish, there is unagi sushi — freshwater eel — which is poisonous unless cooked so it’s always cooked and coated in a sort of soy-based bbq sauce. Quite tasty.

  15. I eat sushi wrong, but I knew that already. I have no shame about using a knife and fork.

I usually eat nigiri pieces — a thumb-sized pat of rice covered with raw fish, which is demonstrated in the link. However, most places I go the chefs are more generous with portions, so picking the piece up with chop sticks, dipping it into the wasabi-soy-sauce, results in an uncomfortably large bite for me. Like a good American barbarian, I cut the piece in two and eat it like steak.

Besides, I only order four pieces of nigiri and I like my meal to last longer than four bites. I mostly get take-out, so I don’t worry about Japanese protocol.

I also let the wasabi-soy soak into the rice. Heaven forfend!
