  1. So now Russia had threatened Sweden and Finland, warning them that if they decide to join NATO, they will suffer severe consequences.

Yep folks, we all know that Sweden and Finland have, for the last 10 BILLION years , been an existential threat to Russia. Finland even had the cohones to resist Stalin’s 1939 invasion of their nation when the entire world knew Finland started that war. The Finns had the balls to think they should be an independent nation.
The unmitigated gall of those Finns.
    It even pissed off Hitler.

And those hyper-aggressive Swedes; let’s see, they have tired to invade Russia at least 20 to 30 times a year, every year, since Der Fuhrer, Herr Putin has been running the show at the Kremlin. But the magnanimous Putin has saved the Russian people with his savvy military strategy.

One of these days the world will realize that Putin’s actions are simply a response to the aggression of those pesky Baltic States, Finland, Sweden and , of course, NATO.
You see, he is/was FORCED – he had no choice – to invade Crimea, Georgia, Ukraine and who knows what else.

And that bastard Trump was behind the curtain the entire time, conniving, scheming, and planning to destroy Russia; and Putin, as savvy as he is, figured all of this out.

Just ask Victoria Nuland, Hillary Clinton, Jen Psaki, Susan Rice, dick Durbin, joke bidet, the inimitable John Kerry, General Milley (the war hero of the Afghan victory) and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin (the “George Marshall” of the Afghan victory), the NY Times, Bill Gates, Zucker and Zuckerberg, of course, the one and only, Kamala Harris.

No need to say this, but it’s worth repeating; Kamala Harris will go down in world history as the greatest , most influential (domestically and on the international stage) American VP in the history of planet earth. We are talking, what, 3 Billion years!!.

And don’t think it’s a coincidence that as soon as the world heard Kamala was heading to Europe to solve the Ukraine mess (caused by Trump, Finland and Sweden- an evil Three Stooges if there ever was one) Putin was forced to act. Putin knew that Kamala’s reputation, skill and experience would cause him to change course, so he needed to act post haste.

Thank God the world has Putin to save us from Trump.

  2. Has anyone else noticed that any reports of antiwar demonstrations across Russia disappeared as of today? Anyone seen anything? Did Putin totally crack down, or were reports of such demonstrations just wrong?

  3. John Tyler, that was great. A real gift of writing.
    physicsguy, crack down.

I see that Paski and others are defending Biden for not stopping imports of oil from Russia because it would raise gas prices in the US, he is thinking of the American People and doesn’t want more suffering. Of course if he hadn’t stopped the pipeline and imposed restrictions on our own production we wouldn’t be in this predicament.
I see there are calls to take oil from the Strategic Reserves. That would be so wrong on so many levels.

  4. Brandon and the Junta are so incompetent in so many ways, and destructive to boot, The need a swift boot in the backside, but I don’t think that would focus their attention.

  5. re: the clip about music. I have long thought that parents should play some melodic music when they put their kids to bed. And then later play it softly in the background during meals. You can’t wait till they are almost teens when they only hear rap.

  6. “Verdict Handed Down For 3 Former Officers Involved In George Floyd’s Death”

“Three law enforcement officers have been convicted for violating George Floyd’s civil rights. After nearly two days of deliberations, the jury reached a verdict on Thursday.

Former officers J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao were convicted with depriving Floyd of medical care while Kueng and Thao were also convicted with failing to intervene to stop former officer Derek Chauvin from using “excessive force” against Floyd.

The three former officers now face a separate state trial in June as they face charges for aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.

Note: in the rush to judgement, the fact that Chauvin was following approved police dept. procedure is deemed irrelevant.

Message to law enforcement; in the course of doing their job, if a black person dies, regardless of how closely a cop follows approved procedure, they will be convicted of murder and face decades of imprisonment. Whereas, if in an identical situation, a white person dies, it’s no big deal.

So much for the rule of law.

Result: if you’re white, you’re on your own baby. Better not get caught defending yourself with any force that might, even accidentally lead to the death of a black assailant.

  7. Geoffrey:

That seems to be the case in MN. Not so much in TX, FL and other Red States. DOJ overreach can fail too BTW.

Political science and political justice can be undone by, politics. Or by leaving those difunctional states.

Justin Trudeau backed off when people took their money out of Canadian Banks. Stupidity and despotism has real world costs.

  8. expat,

I played a lot of music in our household. It was in the background most all the time, except when the kids were doing homework, and I was usually involved with “programming” it (picking the songs and order they would play). As adults my kids have well-rounded, broad tastes in music. But I will say, many of their friends are similar. Most younger folks know the pop music of the ’60s, ’70s, ’80s and ’90s. I think, where my kids may differ, is their knowledge of the American Songbook, Classical and Jazz.

  9. Rufus T, Firefly:

Progressive enclave in GA may be limited to the county(s) that include or surround Atlanta? But Stacy Abrams, Governor of GA, has some say in it “fer” sure. Georgia has turned into a disaster, as seen in the last election, or in things done, seen, and unseen.

  10. My husband had frightened texts from a European friend. Putin is crazy to threaten Sweden and Finland! He won’t be able to do that! Husband replied that 1939 happened. Oh.

I appreciated Hubert’s comments, on yesterday’s thread. Russian nationalism is one thing, and very understandable to Russians; Putin seems to have gone off the edge with this invasion, which is not going as he had hoped. If he’d only nibbled off the eastern provinces on the Sea of Asov, he’d have gotten away with it, as he did with Crimea.

Jonathan Turley, after 34 years in the law professoriate, is now gagging on the latest in liberal discourse.

Note, the Masterpiece Cakeshop case and Baronelle Stutzman’s troubles with the law are indicators that the prevailing faction using the Democratic Party as its vehicle is constitutionally vicious and has few objects other than injuring segments of the population they define as ‘deplorable’. This will not end well.

    Kate:

Reminds me of a moment during the run-up to the Iraq War in 2003. (OMG — almost twenty years ago!)

As readers may or may not recall, there was a big scramble then to decide who was and wasn’t going to back Bush 43’s play to invade Iraq.

NATO was split. Germany and France weren’t going along. They were joined by Putin’s Russia. However, there were several ex-USSR nations who were eager to sign on with the “Coalition of the Wiilling,” as it was called then, in no small part because they were eager for protection from Russia.

(Stop me if this sounds familiar.)

Romania and Bulgaria were particularly eager and earned this withering, threatening response from Chirac, leader of France:
    _____________________________________

Romania and Bulgaria were particularly irresponsible. If
they wanted to diminish their chances of joining Europe
they could not have found a better way.

    _____________________________________

    A Czech diplomat remarked:
    _____________________________________

One thing we learned from the 1930s — no more security guarantees from France.
    _____________________________________

This memory is part of my reluctance to sign on with the “Ukraine is Putin’s world and we just live in it” stance.
