“Mostly peaceful” versus “non-violent dangers.” — 33 Comments

  1. The usual suspects (WaPo and MSNBC) have been going after the “racist” Canadian insurrectionist truckers, Pravda-on-the-Potomac, according to a post at TheBlaze. actually publishing a “political cartoon” by Michael de Adder accusing the convoy of “fascism.” How very prescient was Orwell, 75 years ago, in his disgust at the abuse of the English language at the hands of his fellow leftists!

  2. It was great to see Viva Frei’s livestreams from Ottawa yesterday, very lengthy but fascinating, and the joy on the faces of people he encountered, hugs and fistbumps, and it was clear that for everyone it was about more than just vaccines and quarantines and mask mandates, it was about the authoritarian grip on the country. They kept saying it was about freedom.

Apparently there’s now a “Convoy to Canberra” underway in Australia, and we’ll see where that goes. I read there are similar plans in the U.S., but I haven’t seen any confirmation.

  3. Apparently the Mayor of Ottowa has been calling the local wrecker companies to hire them on, in order to begin towing off the offending parked semi’s to clear the streets. And to a one, they have all replied that they’re sick – with COVID.

Meanwhile Jordan Peterson has published a short video pointing out to the conservative opposition leadership – which has remained shamefully silent in unified toadying obedience – that the Premier has abandoned the ramparts, and to ask them what the hell are they waiting for?

  4. …and I’ll tell you, with all that gridlock around the capital, it’s not going to take very long for the grocery shelves to empty, when they’re not being replenished. Watch for the military to be mobilized next – ‘for safety’.

In 1906, Alfred Henry Lewis stated, “There are only nine meals between mankind and anarchy.”

Here’s hoping wisdom will prevail and shine.

  5. JanMN:

I watched the Viva Frei livestream as well and I agree it was fascinating, encouraging and heartwarming. It was great to see ordinary people who work for a living and keep everything running finally stand up for themselves and everybody else who has been mindlessly punished by Trudeau’s nonsensical rules.

I know there is some stiff competition for incompetent leadership among the Western democracies but Trudeau has taken the lead with his disgraceful performance. At least Biden has his cognitive decline as an excuse.

  6. pointing out to the conservative opposition leadership – which has remained shamefully silent in unified toadying obedience – that the Premier has abandoned the ramparts, and to ask them what the hell are they waiting for?

This is the reason for class warfare. There is a disconnect between the people and their representatives. There can’t be that many people rallying and nobody in government willing to voice support.

  7. Have you checked the temperatures in Ottawa? Highs in the 20s and 30s. Lows heading into single digits. And snow flurries. Plus wind to make it seem even colder. That’s a hardy group of Canadians.

  8. As an ex-leftist I don’t often feel an obligation to apologize for the insanity, hypocrisy and plain dumbness of today’s left, but this is one of those times.

    I apologize.

  9. I was watching Viva Frei’s feed yesterday sometimes, too; had to look away for a while when Doughnut Man started to become too… ehmm… attached.

As for “non-violent dangers,” I think that’s an absolutely valid concept, but it’s not in play in this case.

Google Maps has been indicating that the traffic tie-ups are mostly within, say, six blocks of Parliament, so I’m not sure that the city is really that besieged as far as grocery deliveries or access goes. It feels kind of like the February Revolution leaving one side door of the palace completely unwatched for an extended period (thinking here of Figes’ description of the events in A People’s Tragedy). The MPs could probably order pizza even at this point.

  10. Several have mentioned watching Viva Frei’s livestream – and a favorite phrase he and Robert Barnes use frequently applies to the left’s reactions and “fears” about the events in Ottawa – namely

    “Confession through projection”

Because, as was proved last year, a lot of the left commentary is based upon knowing what their ‘heroes’ are capable of, and what likely they themselves would (and have) cheered on.

They are afraid of their own Id.

  11. “They are afraid of their own Id.”

This is part of it. They certainly project. Also they inhabit a different reality — fed in large part by their online interactions with only like-minded people. The Z Man goes a bit further and suggests that part of it is active ‘World Building’ — the Woke need to be constantly telling themselves a story in which they are on the side of the angels in a cosmic battle of good against evil… because otherwise they’re just a Barista at Starbucks or some Wine Aunt Karen or some boring professor or some talking head who slept her way into the job… and that would suck majorly.

  12. @ JanMN > “Apparently there’s now a “Convoy to Canberra” underway in Australia, and we’ll see where that goes. I read there are similar plans in the U.S., but I haven’t seen any confirmation”

One of Neo’s links in the Class Warfare post has information.
    https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2022/01/canadian-trucker-protests-continue-aussies-launch-convoy-to-canberra/

They also address this comment by Aggie: “with all that gridlock around the capital, it’s not going to take very long for the grocery shelves to empty”

While this all started with U.S. and Canadian truckers urging the government to abandon border restrictions that forced all drivers to be vaccinated and confirmed as COVID free (starting January 15th) or be forced to quarantine for 14 days, activists are now asking Ottawa to abandon all mandates or prepare itself for worsening disruptions to already ailing supply chains.

This poses severe logistical problems for North America. Despite the Canadian Trucking Alliance estimating around 80 percent of its drivers as being vaccinated (government estimates are higher at 90 percent), Freedom Convoy organizers have repeatedly suggested that a majority of supportive members fall into that category and simply oppose the formal restrictions being instituted. They’ve also said that the convoy has only grown in strength this month — estimating that Canada is risking losing 20 percent of long-haul drivers, plus a sizable number of vaccinated drivers who support the cause.

Truckers all over the planet are now mobilizing against government mandates in a time when the world absolutely needs them to do their jobs better and more efficiently than ever before.

While the semiconductor shortage gets the most coverage, a severe lack of qualified drivers has contributed immensely to ongoing economic issues. Delivery delays are commonplace and former just-in-time supply chains are in relative shambles. Companies concerned with transport logistics are now desperate for employees and are offering sizable bonuses in North America. Many places will even pay to train applicants so they can be certified for vehicles/payloads that are in the direst need of drivers.

The Biden administration has even pitched a “Trucking Action Plan” that’s aimed at replacing aging truckers with fresh blood. Thus far, the U.S. Department of Transportation has set aside $30 million to help states expedite the issuance of commercial driver’s licenses. Additional initiatives include expanding apprenticeship programs, reaching out to veterans that may want to become truckers, and launching a hiring initiative that prioritizes “underrepresented communities.” But we’re still probably a year away from those plans yielding any useful fruit, which means the truckers we currently have are also all there is.

Considering at least 70 percent of all goods in North America are wholly dependent upon commercial trucking to reach their final destination, truckers have a lot of leverage that nobody seems to be acknowledging with any seriousness. An ongoing protest encompassing even a fraction of the already overtaxed community will not go unnoticed. Demonstrating truckers have already said border restrictions run the risk of spoiling food deliveries and delaying manufacturing, so they see little logistical difference between wasting two weeks quarantined at the border or spending that time protesting on the road.

  13. FWIW, the Orwellian Language considered here is of the same ilk as the Wokesters’ assertions that “silence is violence” and also that “hate speech is violence” – you can’t win the verbal wars when one side just makes things up.

  14. So, Canada has not only generated its own Reichstag Fire, but a gen-u-ine Tiananmen Square moment.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/downtown-ottawa-street-residents-take-stance-block-truck-1.6335139

Social media applauds 3 women as ‘heroes’ after they stood up to vehicles ‘terrorizing’ neighbourhood….
“They got more belligerent, really aggressive, and were yelling at us,” said Colbert….
Morris said she typically sees people walking dogs all hours of the day — but the street has been barren for days. She knows of at least one child who’s afraid to step outside, and says the vehicles are preventing some elderly residents from getting their prescription medications or grocery deliveries

These must be the non-violent dangers that have terrorized Canada.

The three ladies blocking the dump truck complain that the honking horns bother them, and the exhaust fumes upset them.
The vehicles are blocking streets — just like Occupy Wall Street & the CHAZ.
They give the driver a severe thumbs down, before moving to let him pass.

Please note what does NOT happen:
No one is shot, run over, or physically beaten.
No buildings are burned down, looted, or vandalized.
    No police are assaulted.

But by gum, they showed those truckers what’s what!

  15. Maybe J6ing has worked so well it’s now in the play book, but then J6ing is another variation of Kulaks so nothing new either.

  16. Zaphod @ 2:10am,

Yes. We all spin a narrative where we are the protagonist every minute of our waking hours. Some folks give little concern to matching that story with reality. It is difficult to interact with such people.

  17. Trudeau is simply showing that he is just like his dad — Fidel Castro.

[Check the photos. He looks just like him and not at all like Trudeau. His mom was extremely promiscuous, she adored Fidel, and she was in the Caribbean nine months before son was born.]

  18. ” … what the hell are they waiting for? “

A sign that some small thing they might do in support of the producing clsss will not cause them the least discomfort, disfavor or potential loss of income.

The utter moral corruption of the political classes in the US and around the Western world, and the money casually showered on them and their equally corrupt offspring – Chelsea was a recent example cited here in the ” grifter” reference – is staggering.

Also staggering, if you ever took them to be sincere, is the silence of the “progressive” left with regard to these shenanigans. The feminists turned out to be fakers, the socialsts to be grifters, the liberal grandmas closet totalitarians in favor of concentration camps for dissenters, the progressive young white women 56% mentally ill, the anti racists a bunch of racists hysterically spouting a racial essentialism their predecessors denied in the name of God, suffering humanity, and Apple pie. And the progressive minded soccer moms? Shrill, brittle, controlling, wine bibers.

Did I forget anyone? Oh the professional Catholics transforming their faith into a Chinese funded NGO, the warbling Republicucks quoting “Dr. King” as if incanting a magic formula , the academic fraudsters screaming “Science™!!!!’ over the corpses of their irreplicable research papers, and those valley girl lilt talking fat male voters in sweaters still supporting that idiot chick sent to Congress from Brooklyn, or the Bronx or wherever.

Put them all in a couple of aircraft carriers and send them off the Chinese coast. Maybe we will find out just how good the hypersonic missles the Chinese boast of, really are.

Might get some good out of this exercise in associative insanity.

  19. My favorite lines: “critics warn that conflating the absence of bloodshed with ‘peaceful’ protest downplays the dangers.” But arson? Totally OK with mostly peaceful arson. And then from the comments, someone interviewed by a breathless journalist reported that she knew at least one child who was afraid to come outside. Well, can martial law be far behind? If it saves just one child from fear.

    Justin “Castreau” is good, too.

The whole thing is comedy gold. Thanks so much for the link.

  20. @DNW:

Magnificent! I beseech you, in the Bowels of Christ, think it possible you may have left anyone off the list by oversight? Aircraft carrier is a nice touch. Kind of a Reverse Vendée.

  21. It is okay, I don’t need huxley’s apology.

I am just going to wipe the Leftists from the face of this world. We can start there by the time I am down, you all will see something new.

    Welcome to the Final War.

I have been charged by the authority of the Godhead to command this theater. Yorushku
