Roundup
These are a number of big stories I’ve barely touched on, and here are a few:
(1) First we have the FBI versus Project Veritas, though the use of raids and then intelligence leaks. A very familiar story and the way the intelligence community fights against the right. See this: “A US Government law enforcement agency conducted an illegal and unconstitutional raid on a journalist and then handed documents recovered in that raid, over to a rival journalistic group.”
(2) Now let’s turn to the 5th Circuit declaration that Biden’s OSHA vaccine mandate be enjoined:
On the dubious assumption that the Mandate does pass constitutional muster—which we need not decide today — it is nonetheless fatally flawed on its own terms. Indeed, the Mandate’s strained prescriptions combine to make it the rare government pronouncement that is both overinclusive (applying to employers and employees in virtually all industries and workplaces in America, with little attempt to account for the obvious differences between the risks facing, say, a security guard on a lonely night shift, and a meatpacker working shoulder to shoulder in a cramped warehouse) and underinclusive (purporting to save employees with 99 or more coworkers from a “grave danger” in the workplace, while making no attempt to shield employees with 98 or fewer coworkers from the very same threat). The Mandate’s stated impetus—a purported “emergency” that the entire globe has now endured for nearly two years,10 and which OSHA itself spent nearly two months responding to11—is unavailing as well. And its promulgation grossly exceeds OSHA’s statutory authority.
(3) Yeah, Joe Biden called Satchel Paige a Negro:
And I just want to tell you, I know you’re a little younger than I am, but, you know, I’ve adopted the attitude of the great Negro — at the time, pitcher in the Negro Leagues — went on to become a great pitcher in the pros — in the Major League Baseball after Jackie Robinson. His name was Satchel Paige.
I bow to no one in my detestation of Joe Biden, but I can’t quite bring myself to get excited about this particular utterance of his. After all, although the term “Negro” became verboten some time during the 60s (to the best of my recollection), I’m old enough to remember when it was the polite term, used by everyone in a respectful way. That’s why Satchel Paige was indeed a renowned pitcher in what was then called the Negro League, and in the Negro World Series (see this). That would have been in the 1930s and early 1940s, which was before my time and even before Biden’s (born in 1942) time.
But hey, we all know that Biden was actually born about 1000 years ago. As he segues deeper into cognitive decline, he probably is channeling ancient memories. But it is kind of fun to watch the press spin, and imagine the way his handlers must have cringed when he said it.
(4) Hostages taken at the US embassy in Yemen:
Houthi rebels backed by Iran continue to hold Yemeni employees of the U.S. government hostage, the State Department confirmed Thursday.
Earlier this week reports surfaced that showed 25 Yemenis in Yemen’s largest city of Sana’a, who worked for the U.S. Embassy and USAID, had been arbitrarily detained by the rebel group.
A State Department spokesman told Fox News the “majority” of the hostages have been released, but that embassy staff “continue to be detained without explanation.”
“We have been unceasing in our behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts to secure their release,” press secretary Ned Price told reporters Thursday. “We’ve seen some progress, and we’re continuing to work this critical issue.”
Assuming the transcript is correct, it looks for certain Biden started to say “the great Negro Leagues’ pitcher,” and interrupted himself with the precautionary “(as it was called) at the time.” No big whoop. Let it pass.
“….Hostages taken at the US embassy in Yemen……”
I await the arrogant, incredibly stupid, absolute moron, Antony Blinken, to state that he is disappointed in the action of the rebels, that the “international” community has expressed disapproval, and that he expects the rebels to abide by international law and release the hostages.
Here’s an idea; he should exchange himself for the hostages so he can witness first hand how well diplomacy works with terrorists.
One can only hope.
John Tyler: that’s a great suggestion but I would add Biden and Kerry to the list of stand-in hostages. Biden, Blinken and Fraud: there’s a certain euphony to that.
1) Dissolve the FBI and every other politically weaponized Federal alphabet agency.
2) Very good news.
3) Much ado about nothing.
4) Just the latest episode in the 1300+ yr old Shia / Sunni conflict.
Apparently the FBI is aiming to prove that Project Veritas knew the diary was stolen, and then transported the diary over state lines. (1) They’re fishing, and (2) this is an enormous stretch to make this a federal case. Seems pretty clearly aimed at destroying a conservative investigative outfit. FBI agents should be fired for the leaks to the NY Times.
Yes, when I was young, “Negro” was the polite word. In the 1960s, at the request of Negro citizens, the polite word became “black.” Yes, Joe used the word, and since he is sliding into dementia, the old words come more easily than newer ones.
Wow, the Fifth Circuit explaining in pain English (that even I can understand) why the mandate doesn’t make sense and breaks with established law. I hope that even those who still believe we can vaccinate our way out of this can grasp that.
The left has been after Project Veritas and James O’Keefe since he exposed Acorn. He’s a street savvy guy and tough. I don’t think the FBI can lay a glove on him, try as they might. He didn’t publish any of the diary because he
couldn’t verify its truth or that it belonged to Biden’s Project Veritas has greater journalistic ethics than any of the MSM. (Steele Dossier?) Much more here:

As to #1: “James O’Keefe is currently in a lawsuit against The New York Times. The FBI raids the home of O’Keefe and then passes along the confidential communication between Project Veritas and their legal team to the New York Times.”

“FBI agents should be fired for the leaks to the NY Times.” Kate
No corrupt FBI agent is going to do anything of which the higher ups disapprove. Quite probably, the leak was ordered by the highest echelons.
It is the FBI’s leadership that deserves imprisonment.
I agree J. J. Who says judges can’t be clear, witty, and biting in their missives?
I had seen the Clint Eastwood movie about Richard Jewell, and for some reason I bought the longish book on the subject, “The Suspect: An Olympic Bombing, the FBI, …” Picking up the book a little while after I had bought it, I thought “Why did I buy this and do want to spend the time on a book this length?” It was actually engaging and good. Now I’m watching the mini series on the topic, “Manhunt, Deadly Games.”
I find that whole thing weirdly fascinating in unexpected ways. There’s tons of detail available and Jewell himself is an unassuming yet odd character and even a bit complicated. And need I say? The FBI comes across as a train wreck of an institution.
Project Veritas is just too effective and revealing. Better sic the FBI on them.
So Joe Biden was born in the same year as Jimi Hendrix, and is younger than John Lennon and Bob Dylan. He does not seem like their contemporary at all.
Re: wow the 5th circuit explaining in plain english
yes – my sense is they felt the need to address a broad audience, recognizing that the Biden admin has been promoting their illicit conduct and unconstitutional claims as the settled understanding of executive and agency powers. And that if not corrected, the public and the private sector would likely accept them as such.
Which would also explain the candid presentation of evidence demonstrating the administration’s bad faith and dishonesty.
also stupidity …
from page 7 – ‘White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain retweeted MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle’s tweet that stated,
“OSHA doing this vaxx mandate as an emergency workplace safety rule is the ultimate work-around for the Federal govt to require
vaccinations.”
To Brandon Smith, Covid mandates reveals the American Left addicted to tyranny, while 5he right struggles against this, barely getting heard. And it’s all g these increasingly trivialized lines that we in the US , therefore, need to separate.
“There is not a single blue state in the country that is not on the war path to enforce Biden’s vax mandates. There is not a single blue city in the country that is not trying to subversively teach CRT in schools. And, there is not a single blue region in the country that is not obsessed with wokism and globalism. The truth is, America has split into two completely different cultures with two completely different social objectives.
“There are principles and ideals which are mutually exclusive; they cannot exist within the same society at the same time. There are moments in history when tribes form and cults rise, and generally these groups grow from either a desire to control others or a desire to remain free. We are living in such times.”
