Biden says Governor Cuomo should resign — 47 Comments

  1. Never happen. Maybe the NY leg could try to impeach him, but he will not resign. Why should he, he’s a Dem. Just look at VA.

  2. This is interesting because………….in matters of sex, the Democrats normally close ranks and support their fellow Democrats. Cuomo must have really stepped on someone’s toes. And , of course, there’s the issue of Joe Biden’s record of unwanted touching, nuzzling, stroking, smelling, etc. Interesting. Popcorn anyone?

  3. J.J. said, “Cuomo must have really stepped on someone’s toes.”

Maybe the “Love Gov” got a little too close to “Doctor” Jill?

  4. If this were a Republican, the fat lady would be on stage and near the end of her song. Since it’s a Democrat, she can practice her scales but there’s no guarantee she’ll be called out of the wings.

  5. My theory is Andrew Cuomo has backed out on a previous agreement. I understand from some sources in NYS government that he made a deal a few months back that the Covid Senior Death numbers would be memory holed (with the MSM anyway), and the numerous sexual harassment accusations would go away, if he bowed out so that Leticia James would have a clear path to the governor’s mansion (and if he didn’t run make a run at the Oval Office in 2024)

I think he made it known to TPTB and Leticia James that the deal was no longer good, that people had forgotten the accusations (and with more possible lockdowns on the horizon due to Delta) and he wasn’t going anywhere.

So, here we are. That’s my theory anyway. I wonder if we’ll ever know the truth.

  6. Don’t make a bet on anything when the game is totally rigged. Probably a half dozen if this, then that, things going on in the background with the folks who have the old movies of Epstein’s.

  7. I think the writing is now upon the wall for Cuomo. One way or another, politically he’s now a dead man walking.

I say that because Pelosi and Schumer have now joined Biden in calling upon Cuomo to resign. Hopefully, he’s too arrogant and stubborn to fall upon his sword and will force the legislature to impeach him. If so, break out the popcorn. No one, with the possible exception of George Soros, deserves to be pilloried more than mass murderer Andrew Cuomo. May he fight it out to his last dying breath.

  8. I’m with you, Geoff!
But it is a sign of our irrational times that sexual overtures are de passe, but ordering the deaths of some 15,000 elderly (as Cuomo and his Health [sic] Commissioner did)
gets a bye, a MSM yawn.

  9. @OldTexan:

“things going on in the background with the folks who have the old movies of Epstein’s.”

Cuomo: ‘BBBBBut I never missed an AIPAC!’

Who knows… Who cares? It’s for us peasantry to enjoy the spectacle of one of the rulers being eviscerated by the others for reasons way over our pay grade.

‘A Republic, if you can keep it.’

  10. Thousands of dead elders are the elephant in the room.
    Im with Fractal and Cicero.

  11. If he resigns he’d have to foot his own legal bills, right? If so that would be a reason for staying unless the Party finds some big pocket to pay them if he leaves quietly.

  12. Bill de Blasio has joined the pile-on: “‘He should resign and if he won’t resign, he should be impeached as quickly as possible,’ the mayor continued, doubling down on his earlier calls for Cuomo to resign. ‘He can’t govern, he can’t govern.’

The mayor also wasted little time in pointing out Cuomo’s slew of other scandals — including allegations he covered up the true death toll in the state’s nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic and that he used state staff to help write his COVID memoir.”

    https://nypost.com/2021/08/03/de-blasio-says-scandal-scarred-cuomo-is-past-the-point-of-no-return/

Warning for those with sensitive stomachs: photo of a Gorgon-faced Cuomo at the link.

  13. PA Cat:

De Blasio and Cuomo have been at loggerheads for quite some time. De Blasio must be very pleased.

  14. Neo–

I had the same impression as you (that Bill de B. is delighted to have an opportunity to stomp on Cuomo)– he has that cat-that-ate-the-canary expression in the photo at the link.

And the hits just keep coming: https://nypost.com/2021/08/03/neighboring-govs-call-on-cuomo-to-resign-over-sex-harassment/

“In a terse statement, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, and Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee — all Democrats — said they were ‘appalled at the findings of the independent investigation by the New York Attorney General.

‘Governor Cuomo should resign from office.’ they added.”

“Since the Ds never do anything that doesn’t increase their power and standing, why are they throwing him under the bus?? What’s the end game in this scenario? He was already gone as a possible presidential candidate. Is it just to crow about the Ds “protecting women”?”

The #MeToo crowing is why harassment was chosen as the weapon of seppuku.
    It’s a bonus.

The Elephant in the Room (as JimNorCal said) is the nursing home deaths scandal, because the looming impeachment would have to implicate other people as well as Cuomo, if it is to be effective in prosecuting and removing him.
The End Game is to avoid following those implications to the people on the other end who were complicit in the Elder-Murder Scheme. Cuomo did not do it all by himself.

The between-the-lines reading is in this section of the AP story that Neo linked on the earlier post:
    https://apnews.com/article/andrew-cuomo-investigation-sexual-harassment-04b0e7ba80db368124a5e9c9bcf4dc0d

The leader of the state Assembly, which has the power to bring impeachment charges, said it was clear Cuomo could no longer remain in office. Speaker Carl Heastie, a Democrat, said he would move to complete an impeachment inquiry “as quickly as possible.”

In a telephone conversation with Heastie, Cuomo insisted he wouldn’t leave office and told the speaker he needed to work fellow Democrats and garner enough votes to stop an impeachment, according to a person familiar with the conversation.

But Heastie said he couldn’t do that, said the person, who could not publicly discuss details of the private conversation and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

It may be reading in too much between those lines to suggest that “couldn’t” is not the same as “wouldn’t” – but I suspect Heastie will complete the impeachment inquiry as shallowly as he can, while he is doing it quickly, to protect everyone else involved – who may be more powerful than Cuomo, but are currently not on the public radar.
However, it looks like the pressure to impeach Cuomo is too strong to ignore completely.

Fractal Rabbit’s: “My theory is Andrew Cuomo has backed out on a previous agreement.”

I think that sounds likely. He’s done the risk assessment, and given the lack of consequences for other scandal-tinged Democrats (eg, Northam, but others as well), wants to roll the dice to keep the perks of his office (we know how little he cares about his responsibilities therein).
The other PTB behind the curtain don’t want the game to be played at all.

Be interesting to see what comes next, and who wins.

PS Contra Lee Smith (who is a very shrewd political observer), I doubt that Harris is the one pulling the strings, or that her 2024 prospects have any bearing on the issue at all.
I DO agree that Cuomo has to be eliminated to end inspection of the murder charges for the reasons Smith gives.

  16. AesopFan–

Apropos of nursing home deaths, Cuomo could use the tu quoque argument against two of the governors now calling on him to resign: Wolf and Murphy have bloody hands too. As you say, “Be interesting to see what comes next, and who wins.”

  17. “Look, I’m not going to flyspeck this.” – Biden

That intrigued me, and at first I thought he was just mangling his words as usual, but I have encountered lots of strange idioms over the last few years (of course, the ones I grew up with are not strange at all!), so I did a quick search and found a couple of references.

    https://www.nytimes.com/1979/11/25/archives/on-language-i-declare-trivia-question-fumblerule-followup.html

Earth is often considered to be only a speck in the universe —but at what cosmic subway stop do you get “on this small speck of universal time’? It may be unkind to flyspeck, but Governor Brown invited a close reading of his rhetoric with his opening sentence: “The language of politics today is debased.”

    https://financial-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/flyspeck

    flyspecking
A slang expression for reviewing every word, every comma that might make a difference between dependent and independent clauses, every pronoun and its antecedents (does “he” refer to the grantor or the grantee in a sentence, for example),and sketching every property description in every deed in a chain of title to make sure the same land is always described and the description makes an enclosed parcel. Comes from the expression “picking the flyspecks out of the pepper,” which is an exceptionally tedious job.

Not that I would ever nitpick anyone’s grammar this way. 😉

This round goes to Slow Joe.

  18. I’m in the camp that a complicated negotiation is in progress. We were in a similar place a few months ago, and I had the same prediction that the drama was being manufactured selectively to facilitate the negotiation. And after a week or two of drama, it all went away. So I guess the deal was sealed.

Now something has changed. I wouldn’t put it past Cuomo to think he could get away with reneging on the deal, but the vehemence of the Party Machine’s response has been surprising. For them to mobilize an army of Democrat pol luminaries to join the pecking party, on this scale: Wow. I think something has changed on the Party side, and they need a sacrificial victim of suitable stature, stat.

I wonder if they’re trying to get out in front of something…. if this is related to the Epstein investigation, or maybe the long-awaited Durham report?

  19. You just knew that the Bee would get on this topic: “Epidemiologists are sounding the alarm about a new COVID variant that is leading to increased hospitalization rates across the country. According to scientists, this new mutation—dubbed the ‘CUOMO’ variant, is particularly dangerous to young, attractive women, and 100% fatal to the elderly. . . . In addition to being a very pervy virus, experts say it is 100% guaranteed to murder everyone over 65.”

    https://babylonbee.com/news/experts-warn-of-new-cuomo-variant-that-is-dangerous-to-young-women-fatal-to-elderly

  20. I start from the assumption that with the help of the media the Dems can run anyone they want in 2024. So why don’t they want Cuomo, whom the media has idolized, instead of Biden may be dead and Harris might as well be?

The answer is Cuomo agreed to wait until the bloodbath of 2024 was over, and his nursing home “cost savings” were forgotten. But on further reflection, he won’t, because he’s afraid he’ll be too old. Simple.

  21. Biden, Pelosi and Schumer—OH MY!!

Hmmm, wonder if some kind of unintended Samson option is in the works here….

(As far as Cuomo’s future is concerned, pretty sure he can always cop a job at CNN—e.g., the 2-5 a.m. slot for weather, sports, a cooking show, or maybe some political commentary; or maybe a talk show on the latest issues in ethics or the battle of the sexes…with his brother offering “balanced, meaningful perspective”…)

  22. If someone told Sundowner to toss Cuomo under the bus word is out for everyone to do it.

  23. Speaking of which, more of that oh-so-special brand of humor from the Unicorn Messiah…. (He’s on a real tear!…and he hit this one out of the park….)
    https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1422648157855494144

(Hmmm. Wonder if Cuomo’s invited…. Hey! Dollars to donuts, he’ll fly in some of the “New Americans” who just waded across the Rio Grande as “special guests”!))

  24. The fat lady might be warming up, but wait until Andrew gets his hands on her.

Biden is not a good fit to play The Commendatore.

  25. “It’s for us peasantry to enjoy the spectacle of one of the rulers being eviscerated by the others for reasons way over our pay grade.” Zaphod

Correction: when it comes to political governance, as citizens of a republic, nothing is above our pay grade.

  26. @GB:

Re: As Citizens of a Republic

Ben Franklin has Left the Building. And what he said as he did.

Right now there is no Republic and, you rather than being Civis Americanus, are an animated tax file card and may count yourself lucky to not be spindled or mutilated. So am I where I am for that matter… so I’m not doing some kind of victory dance.

(It’s all very well to be a Citizen in your heart of hearts. But a trip to the DMV reveals the limits there.)

Hate to be a bore and all. You guys could get it back in the manner that you first got it, I guess. But then for how long would you manage to keep it next time around? Certainly not 50 years with the people you now have in the world we now inhabit.

  27. @LeClerc:

“Biden is not a good fit to play The Commendatore.”

Only thing going for the analogy is gets rapidly put out of his misery.

My objection is that Cuomo is more the Forniculi Fornicula type of Wop than the La ci darem sort.

  28. Optimism, Covid, Biden, and positive direction of the country are all reversing over the last 2 to three months in three recent polls. Add in inflation fears and pessimism persisting into new years, jobs bust, and we have an unprecedented crash in confidence for today’s “leaders.” Hmmm.

Too bad we don’t have an opposition Party to exploit this Kakistocract crash.

  29. Well TJ, the corrupt media and infotech sure has their work cut out for ’em….
    ————-

    “…should resign…”

It is said that “what goes around comes around”.
    Well, we shall see….

…as the corrupt media gives the expression “press gang” a whole new meaning, a whole new dimension, e.g.:
“When Doocy attempted to follow up and obtain a real answer, the press gang shouted him down and drowned him out.” —
    https://www.zerohedge.com/political/watch-biden-confronted-allowing-untested-and-unvaccinated-illegals-us

The implication is clear: The corrupt media is complicit in “Biden”‘s policy of flooding the country with illegal immigrants AND with COVID.

  30. How is this Cuomo story playing out? As newsworthy or propaganda and diversion?

It was a take if two news channels, according to Newsbusters:

“CNN Buries Andrew Cuomo Scandal And Fails To Mention Bro” but MSNBC does feature this story
    NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein
    Posted on 8/4/2021,

When it came to coverage of the Andrew Cuomo sexual-harassment scandal, it was a tale of two networks this morning. MSNBC’s Morning Joe devoted its entire first half-hour to covering the story in all its lurid detail. And no fewer than nine times, Morning Joe referenced CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, who advised brother Andrew during the scandal.

Over on CNN’s New Day, the Cuomo segment was buried 22 minutes deep into the opening half-hour (other than teases for the story). And even then, only a measly five minutes were devoted to the scandal. Mentions of Chris Cuomo’s involvement? Zero. A measure of how badly CNN wanted to bury the story: New Day reported on Barack Obama’s birthday party plans before finding a few minutes for the Cuomo scandal.

    https://www.newsbusters.org/blogs/nb/mark-finkelstein/2021/08/04/cnn-buries-andrew-cuomo-scandal-and-fails-mention-bro-chris

  31. “Too bad we don’t have an opposition Party”

It’s inconvenient but looks like we’ll need to generate our own.

  32. A Choice has been made. Cuomo is a burden, a pollutant, no longer viable, and must be Planned. Let us bray that he remains profitable as a whole… whore h/t NAACP, than as Democrat… demos-cracy dying in darkness h/t WaPo.

Oh, the karmic irony of it all. #HimToo

  33. There seems to be a maximum threshhold of malfeasance that is tolerated by the Democrat Media Complex with regards to top tier Democrat figures. And we’re seeing this play out before our eyes with the Cuomo situation.

We all know very well that powerful Democrats are allowed a great deal of leeway, far more than normal citizens. It’s been demonstrated time and time again that such people can commit blatant crimes without serious legal repercussions. Crimes that would put any normal citizen in jail are forgiven, excused, and obfuscated in the case of top tier Democrats. Usually at most there will be some sham “investigations” that will ultimately determine no serious or intentional wrongdoing. But there is evidently a limit to this forgiveness.

If Cuomo had merely caused the deaths of thousands of elderly people, he could have been forgiven.

If he was merely just a sex predator, a serial groper and groomer of young prey it would not rise to the threshhold. Of if he was just an office bully, a nighmare boss, he could be forgiven.

If he was just an overly ambitious, backstabbing, bully with designs on the presidency, any powerful rivals would only be able to attack him in more conventional ways.

But it seems like all 3 of these things together are just a bridge too far. Cuomo miscalculated.

  34. As bad as the sexual harassment that Cuomo practiced he should have been impeached for the nursing home scandal which is the far greater sin. It helps to have a ‘D’ in front of your name.

    ——–

I am going with this one. So, follow the news this weekend, since that sort of thing usually drops late on a Friday or Saturday… esp. when it’s summer and people are out and about over the weekend. I’d add Fauci to the list with Epstein and Durham.

  36. Should be recalled that Cuomo did the harassing all by his loneself.
It took a lot of people to kill so many thousands of the elderly, and more to cover it up.
If the harassing is the be-all and end-all, perhaps the mass murder and masses of murderers go away.
After all, if Cuomo is a private citizen sitting on God knows how much ill-gotten gains and his book advance, can he even be prosecuted? And if not him, then not his aides.
