  1. Barry,

I didn’t see any inappropriate behavior on Honk’s part. Honk is a gentleman goose, not a Zeus goose.

  2. Well, between you and me, she’s cute but she’s no Leda.

Besides, it’s well known that geese don’t make passes at gals who wear glasses.

Goes without saying that in our benighted secular, metoo# era, he no doubt knows he has to waddle carefully. (Even the gods have to be careful—just ask any Hollywood idol.)

He’s no fool: one false move and he’ll be honking his swan song….

  3. I used to live a block from the San Francisco Arboretum, a lovely, well-tended, gated park within Golden Gate Park. It had quite the selection of trees, flowers and bushes with named labels including the formal Latin, plus a pond and its own flock of ducks and geese.

A silver-haired, retired gentlemen spent hours at that pond, feeding the birds but he bonded with one large white goose in particular. He would run with the goose, flapping his arms, trying to get it fly, while having a great time. I would see him on weekend afternoons while jogging with handweights.

Then one day that large white goose was gone and the silver-haired man was disconsolate. It had disappeared over night, along with most of the other geese. Rumor was, and likely true, the geese had disappeared into Chinese cooking pots.

All those Sizzling Sieverts at Hanaford must have finely tempered your funny bone. You just wait until flying becomes easier again and I cycle myself through a baggage scanner 50 times. Victory will be mine!

  5. @Huxley:

The local Very Ancient Chinese dote upon a fat and smug-looking cat which appears in the driveway outside at dawn and dusk expecting to be fed by them. It’s a particularly stupid animal — yesterday we had ~500mm rain in a tropical deluge of just a few hours and about half-way through it I noticed this animal tightrope walking a high wooden fence outside living room window looking thoroughly disgusted about being soaked to the skin when it could have found shelter easily.

And yet I could swear that this retarded fur ball is worth a legion of Social Workers.

Gab CEO Andrew Torba revealed earlier this month that Donald Trump never joined Gab because Jared Kushner “specifically had problems with people [on the site] criticizing Jewish people, and Zionism, and policies related to Israel.”

“I mean, that’s specifically what I was told, is ‘You have to do something about these people.'” Torba said during an interview with TruNews. “He called them Jew haters, I call them Jew criticizers.”

Torba said his refusal to “sell out” and “compromise on Gab’s free speech policies” was a deal-breaker for Kushner and Trump’s handlers.

“Some of these people believe that anyone who criticizes or even has remotely any sort of criticism towards Jewish people or towards Israel or towards international policy, is all of a sudden an anti-Semite right, which is totally absurd on its face,” Torba continued.

“We’re a content-neutral platform. It’s a free speech platform,” Torba said. “So as long as you’re not saying anything illegal, as long as you’re not making threats of violence, you’re allowed to speak your mind and have an opinion about things.

On Saturday, the day Trump joined Rumble, the video hosting platform changed their terms of service to ban posts that are “anti-semitic” and “hateful.”

Well, on one project we all had to wear “death chips.” But all my excess dose, Beta, was on an earlier project. Interesting projects, learned a lot.

  8. @om:

Just had a google and seems digital dosimeters are now a thing. With WiFi. So they can be hacked. Progress.

  9. More on CRT from Scott Greer:

    https://amgreatness.com/2021/06/27/critical-race-theory-is-just-anti-white-racism/

“There’s no need to give an hour-long lecture on the development of Marxist thought or hone in on how CRT harms minorities. Most Americans understand what it really is.”

^^ Disagree with this — Most Americans Whites may subconsciously grok it… but they need it hammered loudly and repeatedly into their thick skulls so that they are forced to confront it head on — and then some smart and brave folks need to engineer a Preference Cascade. Everyone is squeamish and terrified of being tarred as the Next Goebbles or Streicher — meanwhile the Left happily gives us the Ewige Whitey Treatment on every screen large and small 24/7. Playing by their ‘Morals’ and Rules means they win. Every. Single. Time.

But much of his exposition is on the right track.

Clearly a Man of Taste and Refinement — at least until the next time he comes out with something I very strongly disagree with.

  10. The latest bathroom decision found the SCOTUS 7 all agreeing that boys in girls bathrooms is just dandy in HSs! ALL CELEBRATE DIVERSITY!

Our side is composed of fakes and swamp creatures with the courage of sissies and cowardly lions.

  11. As a break from the problems in the US, Canada is going back down the road to totalitarianism, by resurrecting the Antidiscrimination statutes that Steyn was essentially in eliminating a few years ago.
    https://www.steynonline.com/11412/section-13-rises-from-the-dead

The “free world” barely pretends to favor free speech these days. The triggered interns who infest the big publishing houses openly demand their employers pulp the latest manuscripts from J K Rowling and Jordan Peterson. The totalitarian wankers of the British police sit around the station all day monitoring Twitter for transphobic quips, which is far more congenial labor than getting off their flabby arses and catching criminals. The woke billionaires of social media boast openly of their success at “fortifying” the US election by memory-holing unhelpful content.

In such a world it is no surprise to find that Justin Trudeau’s ministry is preparing to restore “Section 13” of the Canadian Human Rights Code. The repeal of that vile law represents one of my few victories in the political realm. As the saying goes, there are no permanent victories in politics, and I would have a tougher time winning that battle today: The principled lefties (Margaret Wente) who offered support have themselves been canceled, and the queasier ones (Neil Macdonald) who objected on the grounds that all the attention was merely helping me sell even more books have been supplanted by more committed warriors who feel that, with Zuckerberg and Bezos at your back, there is no one so lofty he can’t be brought low.

Even a decade ago, Stephen Harper’s supposedly right-wing ideologues had no stomach for the fight. His “conservative” attorney-general was useless and his “conservative” human-rights commissar was on the other side. When the issue came up in Cabinet, the consensus was that “Steyn’s going to lose” – as every other defendant had lost – and therefore there was no point getting involved. Maclean’s was the country’s biggest-selling news magazine, and its excerpt of America Alone was a short clip from a Number One Canadian bestseller. But the “human rights” commissions had feasted on fringe losers and had worked up an appetite for meatier fare.

And so it was that it was not the Government that moved to rid Canada of this awful law, but a plucky backbencher, Brian Storseth, in a private member’s bill. Here is what I wrote nine years ago in Maclean’s – June 2012 – when the abolition of Section 13 finally received Royal Assent:

His old essay is worth reading — it’s classic Steyn — but the main point is the one I bolded. The Left never concedes a loss, never gives up trying again to retake ground, and out-waits the Right at every turn, until its corpses can be re-animated by a new generation.

Maybe there really will be a Zombie Apocalypse.

  12. Apropos the Steyn post’s substance, which is government-instigated Cancel Culture as opposed to the civilian kind (which the governments are aiding and abetting):
    https://notthebee.com/article/mumford–sons-guitarist-quits-band-to-speak-freely-on-politics

I thought we had heard the last of Winston Marshall, the now-former banjo player of Mumford & Sons, back in March when he was canceled for daring to tweet that he’s reading a book against violent Leftist activism [by Andy Ngo]. He’s not letting it end on that note, though.

On Thursday, Marshall announced he’s leaving the band to engage in politics and activism more freely.

He does the Good Kind of Activism – which actually helps threatened people.

“I will continue my work with Hong Kong Link Up and I look forward to new creative projects as well as speaking and writing on a variety of issues, challenging as they may be.”

HK Link Up is Marshall’s “non-profit organization which aims to link up British residents with Hong Kongers arriving in the UK.
