1. Biden claimed during the campaign that he had spent all sorts of face time with the Supreme Leader of China. Why doesn’t he use that now and collect the money that China owes us for Covid-19?
I think the way to collect is for China to forgive the US debt it holds and issue about $10 Trillion in perpetual bonds at 1% payable to the US Treasury.
I think my plan is sound. Feel free to pass it on.
2. Today on CNBC the Sec of Energy was going on and on about reducing our carbon dioxide emissions. What moral or legal duty does the US have to reduce this trace gas? Why doesn’t she go bother China?
Sec. Kerrey said what we do doesn’t make any difference. So why are we do this? Answer: Giant virtue signal and a method to get money to favored Dem patrons. Scam.
Never been a fan of interpretive jazz dance.
I had noticed one recent Supreme Court decision that went with 9-0 vote. But I had not noticed that there has been a string of unanimous decisions. I believe the count is four in a row.
Here is Jonathan Turley and his opinion that the justices are showing unity in a effort to convince the Dems that adding 2 or 3 hard left justices won’t do the trick.
Considering what the “Biden” administration has done and said over the past 4+ months they seem to have captured the worst aspects of the administrations of Wilson, FDR, Carter, Clinton, and Obama and done it in much less than 1/2 a year.
What will they do for the 2nd half? Reach out to the worst of tyrants of all time and worldwide for ideas?
geoffb,
I hear you. I know this is probably just me being overwrought, but with this $6T in expenditures and many other destructive measures, this all reminds me of a mobster “bust-out.” Only instead of wrecking a sporting goods store they are wrecking one of the world’s greatest nations.
The character David (Robert Patrick) lost a ton of money he borrowed from the mob, so they are bankrupting his store with fraudulent borrowing.
They’ll add as many as they believe it takes.
At least they’ll try.
Remember. Obama’s a perfectionist.
Okay, not so great as Plisetskaya, but I did enjoy watching Cyd Charisse on TCM last night. And imo she grew even more beautiful as she reached her golden years.
Plisetskaya is phenomenal – a joy to watch.
Beautiful ! Thanks so much
How breathtaking are the heights to which the human body is capable.
“I had noticed one recent Supreme Court decision that went with a 9-0 vote”
A bit of trivia for court watchers–I was listening to a SCOTUS-related podcast and they mentioned that a 9th Circuit ruling had been overturned. The 9th C Judge’s name was Reinhardt and he is fairly recently deceased. The trivia: Reinhardt holds the record for “most decision reversed by the Supreme Court after having died”. The number is 3 reversed decisions. Now, that’s a record that’s likely to stand for quite some time.
The Revolution comes to Juilliard, and the death of the arts will follow as certain as night follows day. They will learn the meaning of the statement: “Get Woke; Go Broke.”
Zaphod – that was a stunning video, although I admit to just skimming through the “thumbnails” – I had no idea there were mountains in Hong Kong – just always assumed without evidence (ha) that it was flatland along the coast.
Are there actually any house houses in HK, or just high-rises?
Hong Kong has rugged relief and marked variations in topography, which is in sharp contrast to the low-lying areas of the Pearl River Delta region but conforms geologically and structurally to the well-eroded upland region of the great South China massif. Structurally, the area is an upfold, running northeast-southwest, that was formed about 150 million years ago toward the latter part of the Jurassic Period. Lava poured into this structure and formed volcanic rocks that were later intruded by an extensive granitic dome. The harbour of Hong Kong was formed by the drowning of the denuded centre of the dome. The surrounding hills on the mainland and on Hong Kong Island are partly capped by volcanic rocks, and steep, scarplike concave slopes lead to the inner harbour.

Until I actually met my first HK’er abroad many years ago, I thought it was just a little island with a bunch of high rise buildings and a harbour whence came plastic injection molded junk.
As can tell from the video, there’s a bit more to it. It’s quite possible to get lost and die of heat stroke or hypothermia up in some of those hills out in cell coverage shadows. Also some nifty little outlying islands.
Much of the total land area is uninhabited because terrain is too harsh to build on. Anything flat is high density. Rather like Honshu in that. And there has been a lot of land reclamation over many years now.
Great for hiking, trail running, and so on. Can head up into the hills from Point A and be away from the world for hours and then hike back down into a town or village at Point B and hop in a taxi or on a bus and head back home.
Last time I read anything about it, there were ~400 free standing homes on HK Island. Billionaire class properties.
In the New Territories there is a legal dispensation for indigenous villager males. Each one gets free land to build a three story house on, each floor limited to 700 sq ft. So you get lots of these out in the NT villages — basically it’s free money bribe to the most bolshie natives.
Place where I live is just after 32 minutes and I live here mainly so can hike up where the drone operator is standing and keep going. The other great thing about HK is that can be down by the waterfront in this obviously very planned community and look out to see and see two guys fishing in a sampan and it could be a thousand years ago if you squint and pay more attention to their headgear than the outboard.
Oops… strike 32 minutes and replace with 28.5 mins.
Drones sure get some awesome footage – but I wonder if all those people really want their pix broadcast world-wide to complete strangers?
Lovely place – can see why you like it.
Hope China doesn’t destroy it completely.

I heartily endorse both sentiments!

1) keep your eyes peeled for a chance to sign a School Choice petition and get the proposition on the ballot.
2) if you have the time and energy attend a Zoom call to get updated and perhaps volunteer to get signatures.
For me, Plisetskaya fascinates because she is pure embodiment of the music and the choreography. And she is such a cohesive dancer with port de bras that is just as compelling as leg and foot action. And she is not too skinny! She is a strong woman exulting in her dance.
Thank you, Neo
OlderAndWheezier,
Would you believe I thought of Cyd Charisse watching this video of Plisetskaya? Similar powerful dancers.
Jeanne – I was tremendously impressed with Plisetskaya’s leaps where she almost touches her toes with her fingers. Power and grace at the same time.
Just because this is a dance thread – here is a documentary about the Welsh clog dancing revival in the early 20th century. It describes the origins of the boys’ street dance form (kind of like Celtic Hip Hop, maybe), and then shows a group of boys and girls learning to dance as a team.
The relationship to Plisetskaya is power – in that the girls do the same “show off” movements as the boys (but in dresses, kind of like Rogers and Astaire), which I think is very unusual in folk dance traditions.
I think they ladies don’t do that anymore, but the men certainly do.

Actually, I’ve seen better, especially in high-production performances, but this dancer is very good.
The fun part is watching the kids’ faces.
Here is some information on the dance form, and a short video.
I’m always amazed at the juggling aspects, and the way the dancers pick up the hoops using their feet.
