I think that around the age of 10 every male Georgian dancer is given bionic knees:

… Cecilia, you’re breaking my heart
You’re shaking my confidence daily
Oh Cecilia, I’m down on my knees
I’m begging you please to come home…
At my age, just watching…..
Ice bags for the whole troop!
I will just repeat what I used to say when watching Barry Sanders execute some of his famous, but routine for him, running moves: if I tried to do that my knees would explode!
I love these dancers. Thank you. Perfect tonic for terrible times.
I don’t see how some of those guys don’t go flying to the roof. I’ve only seen faster spins on ice skaters.
It’s a miracle. We now have 5G in the middle of the woods/middle of no where with ATT. I thought it would be years before we could get this service.
That last minute or two brought a loud “HAH!” out of me that caused my husband to come into the room and ask if I was OK.
Reminds me of one of my favorite movie scenes, the bottles-on-heads dancers in the wedding scene in “Fiddler on the Roof.”
Some male Georgian dancers have bionic toes as well as bionic knees. Neo posted a video a few years back of these men dancing on their toes with a kind of stabbing motion that’s very different from the way female ballerinas move en pointe. I’m not sure the following is the same video that Neo posted, but if you forward the video to about 1:30, you’ll see the male Georgian version of toe dancing:
Gov. Ron DeSantis signs Florida’s new “anti-riot” law and civil rights attorney filed a federal lawsuit quicker that a duck on a june bug.
“The purpose of these laws are nothing more than an attempt to silence the Black Lives Matter movement and other civil organizations by limiting the ability to protest,” Bates said in a statement. “The First Amendment is a pillar of American democracy, and the ‘anti-riot’ laws clearly strip Floridians of their freedom of speech and right to assemble.”
Several years ago Mrs jack and i caught their act in Houston. It was a very good show.
Be fun if American athletes played the entire game spinning around on their knees. Maybe they can be encouraged by playing the National anthem throughout the event? I might even watch that.
Some of the moves by the Georgian dancers are very like those executed by contemporary street dancers, although those use different gymnastics.
This random search result shows what happens when you blend the new genre with ballet. 2010 movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pubZTQm9d6Q
“While training for the UK Streetdance Championships, a streetdance crew are forced to work with Royal ballet dancers in return for rehearsal space. With no common ground and with passions riding high, they realise they need to find a way to join forces to win.”
The other dancers I was reminded of are kind of a precursor to the street jivers (although I’m sure that word is much too old-skul now). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBQOfyR75vY
“Nicholas Brothers: The greatest dance sequence”
That is not hyperbole.
And they do splits on stairs.
Part of the poignancy is that Russian audience would know that old ‘Uncle’ would have been leaping about like a Georgian, err.. Russian if he still were able.
Also the title of a very good book by Orlando Figes. Read it by the pool in Bali 15 years back. And then went out that night to watch *them* dance.
^^ Suspect too that the recent version’s choreography is bit vulgarized and gypsified for modern ‘tastes’. Traditional dance in that part of the world emphasises male acrobatics and female restraint (Very Ev-bio sound strategy ;p) — all the fiery stuff happens below the knees with the ladies.
If you are a new comer to Georgia and are invited to a “Supra” with your Georgian host, you will no doubt be taken to a local where you will enjoy watching dance and listening to polyphonic singing while taking in copious amounts of food and wine!

A showcase of human talent in a sophisticated order. The boys are extraordinary, then the girls join, and the scene is complete.
Amazing to watch. Just as are the Chinese acrobats.
@SHIREHOME
Maybe more like this. Amazing that they are Chinese but are banned in China.

See if you can spot the Magic Words in the dialogue. It’s not hard 🙂
There are more layers of meaning and more allusiveness in the ‘original’ 1966 masterpiece — director was a master of the medium.
