A big “thank you”…
…to all of those who wrote so many kind words in yesterday’s thread about comments and the blog. And to all who might be new here or returning: Welcome!
I would never start such a commitment. Too much work. My brain keeps switching interests…
My response is that I never set out to make such a commitment. If at the outset someone had told me I’d still be doing this sixteen years later, to the tune of 2 or 3 posts a day (except Sundays), I would have run screaming in the other direction or laughed in that person’s face at the ridiculousness of the prognostication.
And yet here I am, sixteen years later. Blogging has its own rewards and satisfactions. One of those rewards is the ability to follow the whims of a “brain that keeps switching interests.” Not all readers are going to share an interest in all those interests (I bet a number of them are thinking they’ve heard quite enough about the Bee Gees lately, for example, but I soldier on in my love for them).
But that’s okay too. In time, I often circle back (thanks, Jen Psaki, for that useful and amusing phrase if for nothing else) to something that same person might find more engrossing.
“It seemed like a good idea at the time.”
And we have all benefited from it.
Thanks again neo.
Many thanks for all interesting articles.
And more Bee Gees, please.
I’ll chime in on this thread rather than scroll to the end of the other one to say that I agree about comments. I would end my very small-potatoes blog if I couldn’t have comments. There was a period of roughly five years, around 2005-2010, when I had a very active almost-community. It gradually declined and I think Facebook was one of several factors in the decrease. I wonder if there’s a bit of a blog resurgence going on in reaction to the censorship and general intrusiveness of Facebook.
Anyway, this blog is a daily (mostly) read for me. Even though I can’t get interested in the BeeGees. 🙂 And I always at least skim the comments.
I don’t comment often, but I really appreciate the effort you put in.
While one may no longer read Althouse for the comments, her beautiful sunrise photos continue. 6:33… oversaturated. They need no comment.
And at Neo, we have jello and Flora’s Lebkuchen. Both of which have more approvers than disapprovers.
I don’t know how you, or other daily bloggers, do what you do but I’m glad that you and they do it. My mind boggles at the prospect of coming up with even one post a day much less 2-3 or more. My thanks for all your hard work.
“I don’t always comment on blogs. But when I do, I prefer New Neo’s.”
