Canada is not happy with Joe Biden
Even Trudeau is “disappointed” with Biden’s abrupt Keystone cancellation. But their disagreement is characterized as “minor” because really, what does Trudeau care?
On the other hand, Alberta’s premier seems to care considerably more, and is contemplating a lawsuit. It’s interesting that one of the things that might cause a ruling in Canada’s favor is something that was used against Trump in the DACA case:
A recent Supreme Court case that may provide guidance is Department of Homeland Security v. Regents of the University of California. In a 5-4 decision last June, the justices ruled that the Trump administration violated the Administrative Procedure Act by doing away with an Obama administration policy called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA.
The key similarity is the concept of “reliance interest,” GianCarlo Canaparo, a legal fellow with The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal. The phrase is mentioned several times in the high court’s opinion in the DACA case.
President Barack Obama’s executive action, which allowed illegal immigrants brought to the United States as minors to stay legally under certain circumstances, created an expectation among people in the country. Thus, if the U.S. government wanted to scrap the DACA policy, it would have to go through an administrative procedure.
However, now the makeup of SCOTUS is different, and in the DACA case it was the conservatives who wanted to allow Trump to reverse the Obama decision. Now those conservatives could work against Canada’s side, and they are in the majority at the moment.
That is, unless the court-packing goes ahead as scheduled. And that in turn depends on the likes of Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Simena.
Here’s a kulak complaining that Joe Biden put him out of business:
Joe Biden just put me out of business by suspending new oil and gas leases and drilling permits. I am a petroleum geologist and generate drilling prospects in the Rocky Mountains on federal lands. I worked six years to get a prospect ready to drill and Biden just illegally broke the terms of the lease, killing the deal.
This action was done under the guise of helping climate change but will not stop one CO2 molecule from being released, as there is nothing in the executive order to reduce consumption.
No one is going to drive less, fly less or stop heating their homes or businesses. The oil demand will remain the same and we will need to purchase oil from overseas. This decision is not based on science, logic or even common sense. Why do you want to put Americans out of work when you are not solving the problem?
I’m sure the administration really, really cares. The writer can learn to make solar panels, as Czar Kerry (whom I would guess never made a thing in his life, except hot air) suggests.
Perhaps Justin could let Joe sniff that lovely hair.
Crypto C does not mean conservatives… excuse me, i am going to watch the power rangers… even teletubbies is way too political… and there is nothing to do but watch the rot, which is no where as entertaining as watching wallpaper peel…
Justin can only complain so much before he loses favor at Davos. He really likes skiing in Davos.
The Alberta Premier gets plenty of skiing in Alberta.
As a former short term petroleum geologist (1954-1959) I am aware of how long it takes to put together a drilling prospect. The oil business has always been a difficult one. It’s hard to find drillable reservoirs (made easier with fracking and directional drilling). Getting leases and permits takes time and money, Once all is set, you the have to find an oil well rig and contact it to do the drilling. The well may take months to drill. And after all that effort and million$ spent, it may be a dry hole. Or the price of oil may drop so low that the well is uneconomic. It’s a risky business. One reason why there are so few independents. It takes big bucks to stay in the game.
Now consider the government’s position. The Feds own millions of acres in oil country. They sell leases at $2/acre per year. In 2015 the Feds brought in $13 billion from oil and mining leases. If the oil company hits oil, the Feds will get 12.5% of the income produced by the well. They earned $7.5 billion from royalties in 2020 . In addition, the the Feds tax every gallon of gasoline, diesel, and heating oil. They earned $36.4 billion from those taxes in 2016. So, the Feds have a very nice system going here. They own land and charge oil companies to explore that acreage. The oil companies take all the risk and pay for the privilege of searching for oil. When they find oil, the government becomes their partner, taking 12.5% of their oil income. Then the Feds tack on a tax on refined products. Additionally, the Feds tax oil companies on their income at 22%. What’s not to like, if you are the government?
Oil and natural gas have been, and continue to be, energy sources required for a high standard of living. The oil companies are willing to take the risks to find the necessary supplies. And the government profits from the efforts of the oil companies without taking any risks. Now, Biden and company want to kill this goose that lays golden eggs. And substitute in its place an intermittent energy source that will destroy our standard of living while depriving the government of a lucrative source of income. In what world does this make sense?
The Canadians understand this. One of the major sources of their national wealth is oil. They will, if they have to, build a pipeline to Vancouver and sell the oil to China, Japan, and other Pacific nations. But they would prefer not to have to spend that money and instead send the oil south via a pipeline that will be complete much sooner. The Canucks have gone far left, but they’re not crazy…..yet.
Xiden’s puppet masters see our coming massive unemployment… as a feature not a bug. Dependent, desperate people are the easiest to manipulate.
But given it’s recent actions, the big question is, will future S.C. rulings on this issue be consistent with its prior rulings or will it continue to rule according to the currently prevailing winds?
Quoth Neo: “now the makeup of SCOTUS is different, and in the DACA case it was the conservatives who wanted to allow Trump to reverse the Obama decision. Now those conservatives could work against Canada’s side, and they are in the majority at the moment.”
I’m afraid I do not understand her statement. Surely somewhere the law is still the law, even if Fiat is Fiat. To fiat Keystone cancelation, throwing 10,000 plus out of work without notice would make Scrooge happy, though they have mortgages, families and need to put food on the table that day and every day not to mention the billions that Keystone investors have just seen vanish. Maybe Dopey Joe and minions were punishing South Dakota for voting the wrong way.
I keep telling you guys that the Democratic Party has become the new form of communism.
Bidens WANT to help China.
Biden is an arrogant azzhole who will not wait to let ppl know who’s the boss and won’t give anyone beneath him any respect, world leaders and senate republicans will soon find out to their surprises. problem with westerners is they seem to not being able to read people.
It’s not just people in the industry, of course. A young couple bought an old, small town hotel that had been closed for years. They cleaned it up, furnished it and opened as inexpensive housing for pipeline workers. They were full every night for six months. The night of January 20, they were empty. The wife sits in the empty hotel, her husband took a construction job hours away.
The myth that any of the Biden people care about these people is clearly false. These people are deplorables, and they deserve what they get.
I spent some time in the Phoenix area. At a rather large permanent swap meet in Mesa, there are *two* Trump merchandise stores. As of last week, both are doing just fine.
I feel sorry for the folks in Alberta; a very large percentage of that province’s revenue comes from oil and gas and many Albertans, directly or indirectly, rely on that industry for a living.
But I must say, Trudeau is a total F’n hypocrite. He is deeply embedded in the climate change / global warming scam; he is a true believer.
But when the consequences of the policies the elites encourage/propose come knocking at their own door, well, all of a sudden they are offended.
So here we have Bidet shutting down a pipeline – with the resultant loss of thousands of jobs – based on the bullshit climate change scam that Trudeau ostensibly supports.
I wonder what Trudeau actually said to Bidet about this;
“Geez Bidet, you know this climate scam fraud is merely an excuse for income distribution, as you well know, and has nothing to do with climate.”
Bidet responds; ” hey Justin, let me read back to you some of your own statements about climate change.”
Ever wonder how different things would be if the ruling class were the VICTIMS (violent or otherwise) of the policies they impose upon the citizenry. How many of the elites would be supporting ANTIFA / BLM if these groups burned down and injured (or worse) the residences of these elites?
Perhaps Bidet, Trudeau, Kerry can lead by example and refrain from using any and all items that rely on petroleum based products (this , of course, would include electricity, cars, most of their clothing, airplane / rail travel, gas for heating/cooking, etc. ).
I keep telling you guys that the Democratic Party has become the new form of communism.
I think it is actually closer to Fascism. FDR was a fan of Mussolini style Fascism and his NRA was an example. Warren Buffet is a big Democrat donor and his railroad will be the chief beneficiary of this EO unless Canada builds that pipeline to Vancouver.
Mike K:
About the Alberta to the Sea (through BC) pipeline, not the real name. Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad (Warren Buffet RR) is shipping materials for the pipeline through Washington state to Vancouver BC. The red/green commies have been sabotaging the rails that pass through Bellingham WA. Some have been arrested on Federal charges. I would expect such arrests to stop but sabotage/real domestic terrorism by the red/greens to continue or increase. Because, justice for BIPOC or something.
Mike K:
Here are two takes on the railroad incidents near Bellingham WA:
https://heavy.com/news/ellen-reiche-samantha-brooks/
Terrorists and anarchists arrested.
And a completely nothing to see – sabotage inconceivable (from NPR affiliated) at the very end of the article. After blaming the railroads and rail car specifications.
https://www.kuow.org/stories/what-led-to-whatcom-oil-train-disaster-investigators-eye-equipment-tracks-even-sabotage
“Rail experts expressed doubts that a wire shunt could have caused the Custer train to derail.” The experts quoted were equivocal, surprise!
It’s astounding that NPR found environmental extremists an unlikely cause of derailments, or not astounding. We need a ministry of truth, a National Public Radio to tell that truth?
