Lincoln Project scandal
I haven’t written much about the Lincoln Project during the 2020 campaign. It always seemed to me to be a fake “Republican” NeverTrumper group of great use to the MSM in its propaganda efforts. So now we have the very unsurprising scandal involving John Weaver, one of the Project’s founding members, who is alleged to be a serial molester of young boys/men:
John Weaver, a co-founder of the Lincoln Project, has been accused of sending explicit messages to nearly a dozen young men, offering them career advice and jobs in exchange for sexual favors.
Weaver, who formerly worked with the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R), was accused by 21 men of sending unwarranted messages, one who stated that he began receiving messages when he was 14 years old, according to the New York Times.
According to the Times, Weaver told one young man that he would “spoil you when we see each other” and “help you other times. Give advice, counsel, help with bills. You help me … sensually.”
I guess that now that Biden has been inaugurated, someone like Weaver has outlived his usefulness to the cause and Now It Can Be Told. Or something like that.
By the way, technically speaking, the allegations as described would tend to place Weaver outside the realm of the pedophile and into the category of hebephile and/or perhaps ephebophile. At any rate, an adult predator of the young.
There exists considerable evidence that the odious grifters of the laughably-named Lincoln Project (amoral, avaricious, mendacious, and repulsive without exception) have known about Weaver’s proclivities for quite some time and are only now disavowing him because the scandal could no longer be covered up or ignored. Like Cheney, Kinzinger, Romney and all the other pseudo-conservatives in the GOP, these “useful idiots” fully merit being consigned to the proverbial dustbin of history, if a non-leftist may borrow a phrase normally attributed to Trotsky.
What did George Conway and 60 Minutes know and when did they know it?
60 Minutes ran a story on the Lincoln Project.
Just the tip of the tip of the iceberg.
The Lincoln Project always was an ersatz, astroturf organization, made up primarily of sour grape establishment losers; grifters, attempting to make a few bucks off of Trump hatred. That one of them is a sleazy sexual predator as well is no huge surprise.
It is noteworthy that we see another scandal involving an establishment figure and sexual exploitation of youth (technically not pedophilia, as Neo pointed out). We’re seeing this pop up periodically. In no way do I believe QAnon theories about a cabal of child sex trafficking among the world’s most powerful people. But, one can see how such theories develop.
The Lincoln Project — or, as El Kabong called it, “The North American Man Boy Lincoln Association” — covered it up and spun. — from the Ace link
I have no idea who El Kabong is (other than the old Saturday morning cartoons association) but that’s funny. NAMBLA.
Neo is right to question the timing. It was the NYTimes who no doubt withheld the story as long as Nambla was helpful in defeating Trump. More difficult to understand is why release it now? Was Ronan Farrow hot on the trail? Or maybe the Times was trying to extort Weaver for some reason, and he didn’t relent.
TommyJay: “Why release it now?”
Probably in the spirit of “the useful idiots have used up their usefulness”.
FOAF, Never underestimate plain old mean spiritedness. OTOH, my feeling is that our politics, as it now operates behind the Wizard’s curtain, is highly transactional with carrots and sticks. Why expend the effort to swing the stick without some payoff other than mean spiritedness?
And I miswrote above that the Times would be extorting. The Times is probably just the stick on behalf of some Dem power player(s).
I found this article to be very interesting today. “Liz Cheney’s Predestined Future” by Edmund Wright. This guy Wright claims to be an beltway outsider, but has been partway inside major GOP campaigns, and he make predictions about Liz in the first half.
In the second half of the article he talks about Rick Tyler who sounds a little like Weaver except without the ephebophilia.
Edmund Wright clearly speaks from experience. His predictions about Liz Chaney’s future employment, right on the money.
TommyJay,
An inappropriate subject, but I too laughed at that ersatz NAMBLA redefinition by El Kabong. I wish someone posted a daily top ten comments from each of Ace’s posts. A lot of real clever folks there, but I don’t have time to read all the comments to find the winners.
Well, thanks(?) neo. Today I learned two new words. When I learn a new word I usually look forward to finding an opportunity to use it in discourse. I won’t mind if it’s a long time, or never, before I have a need to use either of those!
Burn. It. Down.
Do the vile wink wink oh-so-wittily-named Log Cabin Republicans still exist?
Burn them too. Pile the Faggots High. (Two can play at these smart ass word games).
In the #$@#ing Public Square (whatever the #@$@ that is).
TommyJay,
It’s a mini Night of the Long Knives.
Apparently he went after a 14-year-old online. A minor.
Book him!
The Lincoln Project was heavily funded by leftists, and now that Trump is out of office, the Project can be discarded.
Ackler, yes. I don’t subscribe to any QAnon or similar conspiracy theories, or know much about them. However, after the Epstein and Weinstein scandals, among others, it’s hard to discount the idea of a lot of sexual impropriety in leftist circles, along with all the rest of their garbage. Maybe the Lincoln Project exposé is intended to make it seem that “they all do it.”
theduchessokitty:
Yes, that’s an age group in between those two categories I mentioned, although technically hebephilia.
There is more of this than anyone decent wants to know.
Back in the 70/80s I was a fan of Marion Zimmer Bradley’s “Darkover” series. Later Bradley hit the big time with her feminist retelling of the King Arthur legends, “The Mists of Avalon.”
After my software career took off, I stopped reading fantasy and science-fiction. However, five years ago, while down some web rabbit hole, I ran into the horrifying story of Bradley’s daughter, Moira:
_________________________________________________
I was born into a family of famous gay pagan authors in the late Sixties. My mother was Marion Zimmer Bradley, and my father was Walter Breen. Between them, they wrote over 100 books: my mother wrote science fiction and fantasy (Mists of Avalon), and my father wrote books on numismatics: he was a coin expert.
What they did to me is a matter of unfortunate public record: suffice to say that both parents wanted me to be gay and were horrifed at my being female. My mother molested me from ages 3-12. The first time I remember my father doing anything especially violent to me I was five. Yes he raped me. I don’t like to think about it. If you want to know about his shenanigans with little girls, and you have a very strong stomach, you can google the Breendoggle, which was the scandal which ALMOST drummed him out of science fiction fandom….
https://askthebigot.com/2015/07/23/the-story-of-moira-greyland-guest-post/
_________________________________________________
The daughter’s story is both hard to read and riveting. When she was older and her father brought home an eleven year-old boy, she dimed him to the police. As a result, her father died in prison four years later.
Prayers for Moira.
@ Huxley:
^^ This. There’s a lot of it around and it needs to be expunged with fire and sword.
Plenty of it in the Science Fiction / Fantasy milieu.
Back in the day, there was a certain amount of whispering about and looking askance at the Society for Creative Anachronism medieval re-enactment folks.
They guy was between the ages of 55 and 62 when he was hitting on those post-adolescents.
Newsflash: The Lincoln Project and much of NeverTrump is made up of genuinely bad people. And by “genuinely bad,” I mean actually evil. Not serial killer evil, necessarily, but evil in the sense they don’t care about other human beings.
Not all Trump-haters or critics are evil, of course. I don’t think Bernie Sanders or AOC are evil. I don’t think Rich Lowry or every Trump-hater at National Review is evil. I don’t even think Mitt Romney is evil.
But the Jennifer Rubin/Max Boot/Lincoln Project NeverTrumpers who have flatly abandoned what they previously claimed to believe in because OrangeManBad? They are evil.
Does anyone get any sense the Lincoln Project folks are honestly horrified at the Weaver revelations? Or are they horrified about how those revelations might affect them?
Mike
That’s a damn shame, and I’m sorry to read that – although it’s possible that what I thought was the main attraction to the so-called “Renaissance Festivals”, and what some of the active participants were motivated by could be entirely different matters.
But, 25 years ago, it made a great early Autumn weekend date with your wife or girlfriend … strolling aimlessly around the fairly extensive woodland villages of booths and craft shops. Clouds of smoke rising from huge grills filled with turkey drumsticks, the giant waffle fries, the beer, the serving babes in peasant blouses … impress your girl by ringing the bell with one blow, because you know the secret of how it’s done and where to aim the mallet. LOL
Too damn bad. One thing I did notice that last time I went – over 15 years ago now, was the tendency of the crowd (meaning we supposed civilians) to include increasing numbers of those weird ass clowns who like to dress up and parade about. A good looking chick is one thing; but the guys? There is something off kilter with them. I don’t know what the eff they thought they were doing. Turn the damn thing into a Star Trek convention, or one of those exercises wherein bespectacled fat boys dress up in Civil War era uniforms and march around.
Effen needy losers wreck everything.
Slightly off topic…

I REALLY miss Threedonia.
That is all
Society of Creative Anachronism…
Zaphod, DNW:
Was co-founded by Marion Zimmer Bradley and the name is credited to her.
I’ve gone to a Renaissance Fair in Oakland County, MI. Is there any way of telling if the re enactors, including the mounted jousters, are SCA, or are they pros on the circuit, or maybe really serious amateurs.
I don’t believe in Pizzagate on account of the place doesn’t have a basement, as advertised. So, can’t possibly, no ways no how, be true.
As a friend remarked, discovering the guy who held the bridge for Rome wasn’t Horatius, but instead was Fred, doesn’t mean the story is false, or that the Romans didn’t take it seriously for a thousand years and school kids didn’t have to learn MacCauley’s epic poem.
How many in the pizzagate scandal are within, say, one degree of separation from Anthony Weiner? Somebody who is may not know Weiner, but by definition knows somebody who isn’t put off by Weiner. Grist for the mill, true or false.
Richard Aubrey: American Renaissance Fairs have a different history from the Society for Creative Anachronism, though there is overlap.
I went to a few Fairs in Marin, while I lived in San Francisco.
When I lived in Boston, I had a friend who worked as a waitress/wench at the Medieval Manor, a role-playing restaurant, which the web tells me closed in 2015.
Neo,
While familiar with the phrase “bringing out the long knives” I confess I was not familiar with “The Night of the Long Knives.”
… a series of political extrajudicial executions intended to consolidate his power and alleviate the concerns of the German military about the role of Ernst Röhm and the Sturmabteilung (SA), the Nazis’ paramilitary organization, known colloquially as “Brownshirts.” Nazi propaganda presented the murders as a preventive measure against an alleged imminent coup by the SA under Röhm – the so-called Röhm Putsch.
Food for thought.
@Huxley:
Nothing against Medieval Feasts with Mead Wenches!
Probably illegal in Wokeworld though.
Interesting about Zimmer and the founding of the SCA.. Didn’t know that and the creepy vibe that I and others noticed went down half a planet away pre-WWW.
Clearly not all or even most Re-enactors are deviants… just like not all or most Scoutmasters and so on. Still, seems to be something to watch out for.
Well, that is somewhat reassuring.
“Another tankard of ale, wench! Uhh … please?”
The Lincoln Project actors were present & former Republicans, or at least it was so declared. And as we all know, for Democrats, the only good Republican is a dead one, making them available to change their voting affiliation for the upcoming election, or at least in jail – preferably in a state where felons can’t vote.
I would guess the timing has been calculated to provide an example to point to in order to declare that the problematic sexual predation of young people by political figures has been fixed, and did I mention they were Republicans?
In re: Pizzagate and the ‘global cabal of pedophiles’.
The expression ‘Not the Loch Ness monster – but bigger than a goldfish’ comes to mind.
There does seem to be a predilection on the part of Democrats to promote candidates with sketchy private lives. Maybe it was in a comment thread here that someone referred to that practice as ‘a feature, not a bug’.
Andrew Gillum comes to mind – no way could the Dem PTB not have known about his idea of fun and games – all the better to control him.
Richard and DNW. I remember well going to Holly MI. and the festival back in the 90’s. I went back last year with my son who had some friends performing during the festival. A bit bigger than I remembered but the same earthy, bawdy and rollicking fun that I remembered. We went during the Scottish Games weekend and saw the camber toss and other highland games. The performers worked hard…real hard for their money.
The festival goers was about the same mix of fantasy, enactors and regular folk as before.
A great time. I think I will go back next year.

Molly G – “Andrew Gillum comes to mind – no way could the Dem PTB not have known about his idea of fun and games – all the better to control him.”
Don’t forget Ed Buck and Adam Schiff. Also Swalwell and his penetration of a Chinese espionage ring.
If I had to guess I would think that Weaver brought the average number of boys molested by the Lincoln project co founders…down

This is my favorite conspiracy site. Take a trip down this rabbit hole and you won’t be sure how far the conspiracy goes.
It’s hard to describe. I recommend going to the site, then clicking on whatever catches your attention.
I like the one-eye pics they take from music and fashion photos. The idea is that it’s an occult symbol based on the Eye of Horus. Well, maybe. But it’s a fact, Jack, that it’s a common motif today. They have a monthly update titled “Symbolic Pics of the Month.”

When we lived in south Texas, we took the family out to the Texas Renaissance Fair (near Houston) every year for at least a decade. Costumes included of course. One of our sons still sews his own for various cosplay events, and one married a girl who always wanted a Renaissance Wedding Reception – so we did that too.
We knew some of the performers from the harp community, and AesopSpouse & I had gone to college with one of the primary script-writers for the “paid” entertainment, which at least for awhile maintained a King Henry VIII era pageantry and formal story-line each year.
Most of the cosplayers were not too rigorous about their costuming, which tended to be either medieval (easier to sew), or fantasy (fairy & dragon wings were popular).
The Renaissance Belly Dancers were usually the most popular entertainment.
We enjoyed the musicians and magicians in about equal measure.
Denver has the Colorado Renaissance Festival (actually in Larkspur at a permanent venue, which is what most of the big fairs have). We’ve gone there several times with the grandkids, and hope it will be open this summer.
The Highland / Celtic fairs are oriented more toward the Irish and Scots clan organizations, and specialize in the traditional games, music, and Irish dancing competitions (ala Riverdance). We were part of a group that performed Welsh folk dancing for a few years around the area, and were the only ones in our state (most of them are in the east, which has a higher proportion of Welsh immigrants).
The SCA is still a big element for both types of fairs, and often provides a sword-fighting ring for kids (Nerf or home-made equivalent), or adults (sometimes wood or even the real thing, with suitable padded protective clothing and masks).
What they do away from the fairs probably differs among the separate “local” groups that are organized in some kind of nation / tribe system that I haven’t bothered to keep up with.
Did I mention that all of our family learned to fence? Two of the boys got quite good at it.
Anyway, if there are any festivals near you (speaking collectively), they are quite fun and a good way to spend a nice day out in the summer, or the early fall in Houston (wearing the authentic clothing in July, which was designed for colder European climes, would put most people in the hospital).
AesopFan:
You have such a neat family!
Good heavens, huxley, I have an Eye of Horus, painted on papyrus, on my kitchen wall! Picked it up when I lived in Egypt. They’re very superstitious.

Kate:
The Vigilant Citizen posits an international conspiracy of satanic-occult perverse elites who have taken over large swathes of culture and are looking to take over more. Thus they saturate popular culture with satanic-occult imagery to further this purpose.
Which isn’t to say that I believe it. But there is plenty of weird stuff in fashion photos and music videos, that one might wonder.
Then there’s that weird “temple” building on Jeffery Epstein’s “Pedophile” island:
https://dailycaller.com/2019/08/01/authorities-alarmed-by-temple-epsteins-pedophile-island/
No one is certain what the building was used for. It’s hard not to wonder if it was intended for sexual rituals involving Epstein’s young victims.
Steve Schmidt – working to elect Democrats since 2008. It says a lot about John McCain’s commitment to victory when he was running that he had two such subordinates as Nicolle Wallace and Steve Schmidt.
I’m more a Carl Schmitt person myself. Although not as much as our ballot stuffing overlords are.
Well John McCain did manage to single-handedly kill more USN personnel in a single incident than the NVA ever could manage to pull off. I think he marched to a different drummer in the matter of Victory.
Huxley,
And ” mysteriously” locked and barred from the outside.
Grant the guy was a world class pervert. Grant that he had dens of iniquity built wherever it struck his fancy.
But my bet on this one is: Some urban explorer types or local authorities get inside. What they find is a largely open undecorated, unused, and dusty space with a concrete floor featuring a mouldering piano in the middle and some metal folding chairs leaning against the side wall. A push type lawn mower and some hedge trimmers and brooms sit nearby. Against the far wall is an uncompleted wet bar, the entrance to a spartan restroom and some piled 5 gallon industrial white wash cans. An interesting looking upper gallery over the restroom and never completed wet bar is accessed by open stairs. It turns out to house HVAC and electical equipment waiting to be wired. Disappointed, the explorers descend to the ground level and before departing notice the desiccated remains of a small bird that got somehow trapped within the structure, and then died on the concrete floor beneath those paladian windows on one side of the cube.
The reason it locks from the outside becomes obvious.
DNW:
That’s just what they want you to think!
