Democrat governors are the new royalty — 19 Comments

  1. Although a few Republican mayors and governors have behaved stupidly in the hysteria over the Wuhan virus, the worst offenders have been overwhelmingly Democrats in blue states and in blue cities; the most egregious cases have involved the states of Oregon, Washington, California, New Jersey, and New York; the most disgraceful mayors have been those of LA, SF, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, D.C. and, of course, NYC. As is invariably true, the worst Republicans (of whom there are far too many) are never quite as bad as almost every single Democratic office-holder.

  2. Mike DeWine the Republican governor of Ohio is right there with all these Democrat governors. He is by far the worst Republican on this.

Also the barely Republican governor of Maryland has been weak. I understand these governors are in purplish states but that is no excuse for the melodramatic fear mongering that these guys have displayed.

  3. Do you notice that even restaurants like Chez Panisse are not good enough for these people? The Governor cannot find an adequate restaurant in the entire city of Sacramento and the SF mayor has to travel to Napa Valley to go to probably the most expensive restaurant west of NY. The mayor of Austin uses private jet to get to Mexico. There is no limit to the temerity of these pigs

  4. It’s the LA County order for “no excessive walking” that really gets to me. Now you can’t take a walk, even with a mask? This is insane. I am halfway tempted to ask my beloved lefty brother in Northridge if he’s complying with this.

  5. Strictly on restrictions Newsom is by far the worst. If they stick to his guidelines Disneyland may literally never open again even with a widely distributed and effective vaccine.

  6. Small business votes Republican, so they’re the enemy. The teachers’ unions are part of the Democratic machine, so they get what they want no matter how unreasonable.

The lockdowns redistribute case loads between time periods, but they don’t seem to reduce the death toll over time.

I believe north of 40% of the hospital beds in the New York / New Jersey commuter belt were occupied by COVID patients last April. You’re not seeing that now. In South Dakota, which has been averse to coercive measures, peak stress on hospitals has been a COVID occupancy rate of about 23% and it’s now heading downward for the time being. Right now, problems are leveling off in the Plains, the northern Rocky Mountains, and the western sector of the St. Lawrence Seaway. The highest stress is in Nevada, New Mexico, and Colorado.

What measures are any of these state governors taking to protect the people who are actually in danger from the virus? Closing college campuses is a nonsense policy.

  7. It’s the LA County order for “no excessive walking” that really gets to me. Now you can’t take a walk, even with a mask?

Is their any demonstrable transmission in open air? That’s just a harassment gesture.

  8. They put themselves much higher than kings did. Can you imagine, say, Cuomo submitting to being publicly flogged by those whose parents were put to death by his order? Henry II did, and his complicity in Becket’s death was vastly less clear. Or Whitmer kneeling in the snow to beg forgiveness? Not likely.

Instead of going to France to fight beside their men, they just go to the French Laundry. Even a Byzantine Emperor who acted like this would soon find he’d been blinded, and locked in a monastery.

  9. This was nice to read.

“ITEM 19: Erie County (New York) Comptroller Stefan I. Mychajliw Jr. tweeted, “I blocked the Health Dept. from collecting, cashing or depositing covid fines.
    Charter gives me this authority.
All fines come to my office. I set up a flexible payment plan. Fine of $1,000 or less: 20-years to pay. More than $15,000 fine:100 years to pay.”
A dollar down, and a dollar a week.”

  10. There’s a storm brewing. Pelosi just admitted that she held up relief funds to help elect Biden. She’s now willing to consider a 908B relief package but shot down Trump’s earlier 1.8T relief package. Newsome just ‘canceled’ Christmas. Cuomo’s a mass murderer.

I wonder if these authoritarian tyrants realize that they are ‘ruling’ on borrowed time?

I wonder when someone is going to meet out personal payback? They sure have it coming and in spades.

  11. America has been called ‘The land where no man has to bow.’ There have always been people who didn’t like it that way, and now they think that they are in the ascendency.

  12. Maybe it is slaves. Also neo, for what reason are you insulting serfs by calling them serfs here?

You deleted things and said they were personal attacks because they were calling humans here by the label, humans.

For what reason are you not deleting yourself for calling me “us peasants” neo?

Your arbitrary rules are not recognized as valid by this son of god.
I point this out because your logic was always ridiculous. Even more so as time goes on.

Ignore this accounting in this life if you wish. You wont escape your life review when it comes to judging yourself.

  13. physicsguy,

Do you listen to Spencer Klavan’s podcast? “Young Heretics”

He picks a topic in Greek or Roman classicism and breaks it down in tremendous detail, often even dissecting the language. Brilliant young man. A chip off the old block.

  14. ymarsakar:

I deleted comments of yours about flat earth, comments that were repetitive and not-germane to the topic at hand. As for your comments where you called others “humans” and put them down, I reprimanded you for them and asked you to desist from doing that. But in fact, you can find plenty of such comments of yours on this blog right now – tons of them. I don’t think I deleted a single one, and if I did, I certainly let the vast vast majority of them stand.

In addition, do you actually not understand sarcasm? My use of the word “peasants” here was clearly a sarcastic reference to what the governors I’m speaking of believe, not my own attitude.

  15. While I’m happy to see Sheriff Villanueva opposing the shutdown order, I still won’t trust the guy. He’s in hot water right now, and it’s almost certain that his only chance of survival is to keep the residents happy with him.

On the other hand, the idea of a California Dem that actually tries to keep his constituents happy seems almost novel these days.
