You know you’ve been ingesting too much politics when you have dreams like this
I’ve immersed myself in reading, thinking, and writing about politics for a long time now; close to two decades for the reading and thinking part and close to seventeen years for the writing. Sometimes it feels as though I’m merely chronicling a decline, but it remains compelling to me. The last few months have been especially stressful, for obvious reasons.
But I don’t usually dream about politics, at least not that I remember. Last night, though, I had a very vivid dream that went like this:
I’m reading a blog (already, that’s a crazy thing to dream about, isn’t it?). I read a post that says that some state legislature run by Republicans (I can’t see which state it is for some reason) is taking a voice vote to say that the election in that state was completely above board, no problem, despite the fact that there have been hundreds of allegations of fraud and a lot of suspicious behavior. The post I’m reading in the dream points out that a voice vote is the refuge of cowards.
I go to another blog and then another, to see if they can corroborate the story. It’s hard to find any more about it, and I begin to wonder whether it’s true or not. Then I wake up, and it takes me a minute or two to realize it was only a dream.
I need to get out more.
Alas, this wouldn’t surprise me, Neo. I have little confidence that swing state Republican legislators have the spines to exercise their constitutional right to cancel bogus election results.
Yes, you certainly do! Need to get out more, that is. And I know just where you can go.
neo: Curious if you remember many dreams these days….
I know I don’t, though there are still a few that sneak through … usually anxious ones.
To get away from American TV indoctrination I’ve been watching a lot of East Asian TV shows. As a result sometimes my dreams are full of Chinese people running around. Very odd.
huxley:
For many years I remembered detailed dreams almost every night. Starting maybe 15 or 20 years ago, rather abruptly, that phenomenon stopped. I have no idea why. But it’s unusual for me now to remember a dream, although it still happens on occasion.
Exeter Mom,
Wut. Boddah you?
I notice dream remembrance for me is inversely correlated with caffeine consumption. The less caffeine, the more vivid and memorable my dreams.
When you dream you are processing something. So much is going on is that there is so much to process. The situation is very fluid and we don’t see a clear path forward. That is probably driving your dreams.
My suggestion is taking 15 minute walks and occasionally play a well known card game, work a jig saw puzzle or watch a re-run of a comedy show that you loved. When it was summer I found mowing the grass or weeding worked well for me. During that time of manual effort/low intellectual activity your mind can process in background. I find it effective. Or get on the phone and talk through what you are processing with someone who is processing too.
Be of good cheer. I view this election like a trial in a sense. After opening statements the prosecution gets to present its case and at the end you think this person is a low down skunk and guilty as sin. But then the defense rises and puts its facts and interpretations to the jury. That is where we are now. Evidence is piling up so fast that we see the path forward coming into focus. Now we have to support the effort in anyway we can.
Larger things are afoot at this time too. I do recommend “Meaning in History” and now “Vox Popoli” for short hand summaries. Also American Thinker that Neo has linked to several times (Andrea Widburg) is good. It appears to me that the Trump Legal Team and Sidney Powell is using “The Gateway Pundit” to put out material also. Either that or they have mobilized a tremendous reporting base. In the past 18 months, TGP has published more proven/accurate stories than most sites including NYT, FOX, CNN and other MSM outlets.
Stay in the fight. Stay mobilized. Do not despair. We are going to win this battle.
Go in, not out.
