The Republican “Convention” starts
Neither of this year’s conventions are the least bit conventional, as political conventions go. But the Republican one promises to be somewhat more conventional than the Democratic one was, a low bar to be sure.
It’s already started, and Trump is actually in attendance in his usual 3-dimensional physical form:
“I felt an obligation to be here,” Trump said. “You have a governor who’s in a total shutdown mood. I guarantee on Nov. 4, it’ll open up.”
The president claimed Democratic governors “love shut down until after the election is over, because they want to make our numbers look as bad as possible for the economy.”
Trump and his fellow Republicans have been expected to aggressively counterattack the Democrats and their presidential nominee at this week’s GOP convention, a four-day affair that is expected to make the case it is Trump and not Biden who can revive the pandemic-battered U.S. economy.
Republicans POUNCE!
In addition to Trump, there will be 336 state delegates in attendance.
There are some potentially interesting speakers scheduled. To name just a few (the whole list is at this link): South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, the widow of retired police officer David Dorn, Baltimore Republican candidate Kim Klacik whose video went viral, Nicholas Sandmann (somewhat more grown up), and plenty of others. I don’t usually watch these things, but I’ll read about it and probably see some clips. And you?
I never watch these things.
And I’m not on a Arbitron rating-equipped TV, so I don’t think anyone is counting me as I watch.
But I intend to watch some of it each night via live stream, just as part of “magical thinking”. If I watch–maybe others will watch. And then the ratings will be better than the Dems … and a worried Trump voter somewhere will get a boost.
Add Herschel Walker to the list.
I’m looking forward to hearing Noem.
It does look like an interesting list, if a little bit heavy on people named Trump.
A leader of the Navajo Nation, hmm… interesting…
A surprisingly large number of people of whom I’ve never heard before…
I would certainly tune in for Noem…
Would have liked to see somebody from Michigan like John James or Peter Meijer, but that’s okay – they haven’t yet been elected, after all, so have yet to show that they have heft, but still, Michigan being a swing state and all, it would have been nice.
Having Stefanik there to show that this state is not a total write-off for the GOP is probably a good thing.
Melania! Not unheard of for a First Lady to speak, but even so, can’t hurt. Might be interesting to hear from her.
Well, there are only four days’ worth of slots, so one can’t have everything.
Kim Klacik’s Baltimore video is great.
May watch a little of the republican convention, but not much.
There is nothing at all that will convince me to vote for BiteME and Camilla Whoress.
did not watch any of the demonkrat convention; I will surmise it was just
“4 days of hate.”
Even Orwell’s 1984 limited his hate time to 2 minutes daily.
“I don’t usually watch these things, but I’ll read about it and probably see some clips. And you?”
Speaking for me and only for me . . .
YAWWWWN ( zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz )
Trump’s appearance today was his typical energetic, funny, and effortless ease in connecting with those attending or watching, other than the TDS infected.
Biden couldn’t do this on his best day. Trump does it every day.
I took in most of Tim Scott’s speech just now. I don’t know where he was speaking from, but the background, wherever it was, was pretty imposing. South Carolina state house or something, I’m guessing. Kind of a standard template, but since I’ve never heard him speak before, I was suitably impressed. Nothing nasty or angry in his demeanor, an appropriate sprinkling of humor, encouraging “really? tell me more” types of points… one could certainly do worse than listen to him talk.
“Baltimore Republican candidate Kim Klacik whose video went viral” to 10 million views. Thus far. Is anyone else impressed?
Hugh Hewitt played back good pieces of the speeches on his morning radio show. They were TERRIFIC!! Including reps (Scalese) wounded themselves by Left Wingers and Rep. who’s daughter was murdered at the Parkland Scool shooting, etc. Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott were outstanding (both S.Carolinians)!! I’m hoping Nikki is our presidential candidate in 2024. GREAT Stuff!!
T.J.: Young (black, female) Kim Klacik was A+!! WOW…!!
