Did anyone watch the virtual Democratic Convention?
If so, you have a greater propensity for masochism than I do.
I’m already on record many times as saying I don’t like political speeches. So why would I want to subject myself to a parade of pre-recorded statements from the likes of John Kasich and Michelle Obama, among others? I have been happy to not have them in the news every day anymore. And I’m especially happy that the many predictions that Michelle would either be the VP nominee or the presidential nominee turned out to be wrong, because if that had been the case I think the Democrats would have had an even greater chance of winning than they do now, to fulfill the dream of still another wonderful Obama term.
Reading a few excerpts from Michelle’s speech was more than enough for me:
In prerecorded remarks, Obama stressed the “awesome power of the presidency,” while saying the job “requires clear-headed judgment, a mastery of complex and competing issues, a moral compass and an ability to listen.”
She added: “Whenever we look to this White House for some leadership or consultation or any semblance of steadiness, what we get instead is chaos, division and a total and utter lack of empathy.”
“Clear-headed judgment” – Obama? “Mastery of complex and competing issues” – Obama? “Moral compass” – Obama? But “division” was Obama’s middle name, and still is.
Empathy is not a big deal for me in a president, although most people might disagree. But for the record, I think Trump has displayed quite a bit of empathy for those who suffer, particularly in inner cities.
I doubt this convention or these speeches will change a single vote one way or the other.
Only people paid to watch it seemed to…
everyone else had to go play fortnight, eat, watch paint peel, etc..
It’s been a VERY long time since I saw a Convention on TV. Perhaps 1968, when I recall that my father pointed out that Nixon was an intellectual or had intellectual leanings. Well, no Demo ever called Tricky dumb. Evil, yes, but not dumb.
During the 1968 Demo Convention I was hiking in the Sierras w my LA relatives and their friends. No “Come to Chicago and change the world” for me. Sorry, Crosby Stills & Nash.
We just thought Biden set the bar high for lies last week in his Kamala speech. Last night was Lies Palooza.
I am not a masochist, besides I already know what these people will say. It was finally cool her last night, so I slept. But I did read that Michelle blamed Trump for locking kids up in cages. She still resents the fact that she only got into Princeton because of he brother. I wonder how many poor blacks she invites to her ocean-front house.
Didn’t watch, had no desire to watch, and honestly forgot it was happening until I saw a FB post from a lefty friend (as most of my friends are). However, she is the only FB friend posting anything about it (and I have dozens of friends who happily post random progressive tripe multiple times a day). So, I get the sense no one much is interested.
No, didn’t watch.
But I saw a blog comment with a link so I clicked on the Bloomberg live stream, gave it a DOWN vote (downs were a large majority, almost 10 to 1) and made a few negative comments.
Heh. Simple pleasures …
Michelle’s prognathism is her most beautiful feature ( next to her left eye being 5-10 mm below the right)
I caught Cuomo’s polemic and as a result have reached the conclusion that the only explanation for such a litany of blatant lies is that the man is a perfect example of political theorist Hannah Arendt’s “Banality of Evil”. Nor is that hyperbole.
His deceit, his lies and libel and slander of Trump was only exceeded by his labeling his mass murder of over 6,000+ elderly New Yorkers as “for all the pain and all the tears, our way worked. And it was beautiful,” Cuomo said.
That’s an obscenity that ranks right up there with Venezuela’s dictator Maduro eating a stuffed sandwich on TV, while lecturing starving Venezuelans.
I just got Cuomo you tube ad which says they just need 36 more people to do something and the senate may be theirs… or some such..
Somebody watched — maybe.

I thought the photo at the Bee was part of the parody, until I saw the Twitchy post.

Sometimes it is hard to tell the two sites apart, except the Bee doesn’t do cussin’ with or without acronyms.
“I doubt this convention or these speeches will change a single vote one way or the other.” – Neo
True.
This liberal Democrat online-personality had his mind changed before the convention, but maybe that will be a harbinger for others to come along as well.

This has the potential of actually changing things far more than the DNC or RNC conventions will do.

And FWIW – Trump really is able to get Democrats to oppose what they otherwise would support.

The video looks authentic, but — well, that really would be weird.
Even for today’s Democrats.
While I sympathize, I’m not sure I’d go with “Banality of Evil” as far as Cuomo is concerned (simply because evil’s not banal).
Maybe “Banality of Bananas”….
(In any event, Arendt’s rather ill-chosen phrase was both widely condemned because it was not entirely understood—though even if properly understood, it was pretty pathetic. (This wasn’t Arendt’s best moment.) No, Eichmann, was not banal by any stretch of the imagination—but then, it all depends on how one defines “banal” and which time period, as well as circumstances, one is talking about. That is, the handsome-in-a-Nazi-uniform-Eichmann was an utter genius at organizing mass-murder in the 40s—Nazi bureaucrat extraordinaire; however, fast forward to 1961: after 15 years of looking behind his back in South America, he looked like a real loser in the Jerusalem dock, a washed-up door-to-door salesman—though no doubt it was in his interest to appear that way. So what was he, schlemiel or mass murder? But no, Prof. Arendt, such a choice is not necessarily binary….)
But back to the DNC (and Biden’s widely touted—though by whom?—foreign policy expertise):

Things are getting “interesting”, though:

Perhaps it’s a question of some frustrated Bernie Bros wondering, “Why should Antifa have all the fun?”…
Hmm. Compare and contrast:

One could could say that he’s giving us the benefit of his area of expertise.
(Almost as impressive as the “No Malarkey” kid.)
Ah, fudge. AOC has an excuse for nominating Sanders: the DNC asked her to do the procedural formality, presumably so he could be officially voted down.
She’s still all-in for Slow-Joe.
But excuse a little schadenfreude here, as we note that she has now been hoisted by the petard she so often aims at others.

If you want to watch reality tv, The Apprentice and Trump is more entertaining.
McEnany also looks better.
