RIP rickl — 9 Comments

  1. I remember rickl. I hope and pray that he finds rest and peace. I don’t know about his family but I will pray for them too.

  2. I remember him. Earlier today his sister sent a very moving email message to the folks at Ace of Spades HQ ( it’s currently posted in the right hand margin near the top on the main page).

  3. A very moving letter from rickl’s sister at AOS HQ.

I remember rickl well. His nom de internet was distinct and recognizable. He fought the big C. Apparently he fought hard and didn’t give in. May he R.I.P. and may his family find comfort in their memories of him.

Strange how we become a part of an online community. Had someone told me thirty years ago that I would be happily engaged with a bunch of people I never met, I would not have believed it. We sometimes feel that we know fellow commenters and bloggers, maybe even better than people we see in person. It works as intellectual companionship that you might not find elsewhere. Whatever it is, I’m glad to be a part of it.

  4. I remember him and would take the time to read his comments if I was perusing comments at Ace’s site. He will be missed.

  5. Ah, damn. I was late to hear this horrible news, and I just caught it by sheer accident in the side-bar at AoS.

rickl was there from the moment I started commenting here, and I always enjoyed his comments. As usual, I had no idea how much my senior he was – turns out he was one year younger than my own mother, who also died of cancer far too young.

Gone but not forgotten, rickl. Godspeed.
