Theresa May resigns
They won’t have Theresa May to kick around anymore:
“I will shortly leave the job that it has been the honor of my life to hold,” she said outside Downing Street, her voice quivering in the morning sunshine. And with that, she’s off — or at least she will be later in the summer, once a new Conservative leader is elected.
That’s quite a touch for CNN—“her voice quivering in the morning sunshine.” I’m sure the last year or so has been rough for May, and her successor will have his work cut out for him. I say “his,” because it probably will be Boris Johnson, who says he will pursue a No Deal Brexit.
More:
Mrs May will stay in office for the next two weeks, allowing her to welcome Donald Trump to the UK on his state visit, and step down as party leader on June 7.
She will then continue as interim PM until a new Tory leader is chosen, and finally leave office in July.
Two-thirds of Brits in a snap poll agree that May was right to step down.
If you don’t know what “No Deal Brexit” signifies, it means leaving the EU without the terms of that leavetaking having been negotiated in advance with the EU, and no agreement about their future relationship. The left predicts dire economic consequences, of course, and at the very least some of this sort of thing may occur
A no deal Brexit could lead to a number of things happening. For example:
Border checks could be re-introduced
Transport and trade between the UK and the EU could be severely affected
Adults may not be able to drive in EU countries without a special driving permit
It could cost more money to use your phone abroad in EU countries
It would mean no transition period
That first one on the list seems to be a perk, not a drawback. The rest seem relatively minor and/or not likely to happen.
Leave already !

I still have my international driving license somewhere. All it took was a valid license where you lived,
I always keep my international driving license updated; a simple inexpensive visit to the AAA. If you lose your wallet, you can drive with it here in the U.S. while you take care of replacing it–no small matter at our southern California DMV offices.
A no deal Brexit could lead to the stalwart people of England reclaiming their sovereignty and their courage, and standing alone. They’ve done it before.
No Deal! Go!
What Kate said.
The Commonwealth is better off without the EU.
The EU would be better off without the EU! Heh. :>)
But I continue to hope for a nice clean “No Deal” Brexit. Which one UK on-line pal insists is properly called “British Independence.”

Sharon W.: Sounds like a pro tip to me!
I lost my auto title in my move from San Francisco, then discovered I couldn’t get New Mexico plates without current CA registration and title, and had to drive all the way back to CA to straighten it out.
Which isn’t the same as a driver’s license but same ballpark.
One thing I like about New Mexico is here there are shops in strip malls which handle just about everything the state DMV or MVD can do for a reasonable fee in 15-20 minutes as opposed to the usual, lengthy unpleasant DMV visit with a sour-faced bureaucrat.
Seeing how she responded to rioting in London during her time as Home minister ca. 2012, you could wager she’d be unsuitable for a leadership position. Our friend Mr. Yancey thinks she’s been scheming right along to sabotage Brexit, but you could offer a more charitable interpretation that she’s a feminine type whose default response is to temporize.

And this despite the fact that last year I hired a car in France for a month and drove around on a NZ license — no international one at all? I also hired cars in Romania and Serbia with only my home license.
I call utter bullshit on this one.
The UK can fall back on WTO protocols when it comes to trade with the quasi-nations of the EU. The continent needs to be able to trade with the UK and vice versa. And, the UK can resume its traditional commercial relations with the Commonwealth. Divorce Brussels and become the UK that after the fall of France faced the battle of Britain alone and kept Hitler’s invasion plans from coming to fruition.

parker: Exactly. I just don’t believe all the doom-and-gloom financial talk about Brexit, deal or no deal. I’m sure there will be a few bumps in the carpet, but come on.
How did they ever survive in the UK without the EU? I mean, customs, border controls, their own laws, driver’s licenses . . .the Horror! The Horror!
My European friend tells me the EU was primarily about stopping Germany from attacking the rest of Europe yet again.
I get that. But instead Germany took over Europe economically. I guess it’s an improvement.
“You have sat too long for any good you have been doing lately… Depart, I say; and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”

The GOPe, er, elite Tories in the Conservative Party – they didn’t want Trump, er, Brexit. Even May didn’t. Mostly a waste of two years in legal limbo — lots thought then, and think now, that Brexit “would never happen”.
I now think what’s coming is a “no deal” Brexit, where the UK stops paying into the EU funds, and stops enforcing any EU regs or laws it doesn’t like, including a possible reduction in immigration.
Trump should ask May about Brit intel involvement with the Steele dossier. Their head of MI-5 retired soon after Trump was elected; they are hiding their collusion.
