Ballot harvesting, the wave of the future?
The new technique of “ballot harvesting” in California may account for why Orange Country turned blue in the 2018 election.
On election night six Republicans were ahead in their House districts in Orange County, but when the late votes came in—many cast by the newly-legal method of “ballot harvesting”—the Democrats had won all six.
Here’s an example of how it worked:
In California’s 39th Congressional District, Republican candidate Young Kim was widely anticipated to snag an electoral victory and fill outgoing Rep. Ed Royce’s shoes, becoming the first Korean-American woman to serve in Congress. On election night and the next day, she held a wide lead ahead of Democrat Gil Cisneros. While waiting for the official ballot tally, Kim flew to Washington D.C. to attend orientation events for freshmen members of Congress, including the class photo op, but as ballots continued to pour in up to a week after the election, the results flipped and she ultimately lost…
A new state law allows third parties to pick up ballots and drop them off at polling locations on behalf of that person, a practice known as “ballot harvesting.”
In video footage that surfaced last month, a woman who identifies herself to a California resident as Lulu is seen knocking on someone’s door and offering to deliver their absentee ballot, but “only to, like, people who are supporting the Democratic Party.”…
Mailing a ballot to every voter in the county, allowing these ballots to arrive up to a week after Election Day, and allowing individuals to register to vote and cast a ballot on the day of an election give ample opportunity for an individual intent on committing voter fraud to do so.
I’m pretty sure it isn’t illegal to go door to door and only “help” those who want to vote Democratic. If that’s true, it’s pretty obvious to me that the California Democrats would be much more active in this way than the Republicans in that state, who were almost undoubtedly caught flat-footed. So this could have greatly benefited the Democrats in Orange County without actual fraud being committed.
Or it certainly could have included fraud.
The entire situation is worrisome, and I’m fairly sure this is something more and more states will be instituting. Those who object will be accused of racism and vote suppression.
Democrats are intent on creating a set of large one-party states so dominant that winning them will be a foregone conclusion, and winning them will be enough to win every national election. The Republicans don’t seem to have a clue what to do about it.
The Tea Party referred to the GOPe(stablishment) as
‘The Stupid Party’ for a reason.
Can you help me figure out what it was?
Absentee ballots *after* the election!? This has no purpose other than fraud. Why should states that don’t condone election fraud recognize representatives or electoral votes from states that do? California wasn’t blue enough for the left? If this is the wave of the future, then having California become a separate country has merit.
I agree with Matthew M’s take on absentee ballots after the election. This ballot harvesting thing seems only designed to undo the results of a close (or even not so close) election.
Hello Neo.
I was trying to figure out how to send you a jpeg without using the comment section, but could not figure it out. You probably know this, but in case not… You should be able to find the Hanukkah photo of a menorah in the window of Rabbi Dr. Akiva Postner. It is Kiev, Germany 1932 and in the background, the unfurled Nazi flag glares. On the back of the photograph is written:
Chanukah 5692
(1932)
“Death to Judah”
So the flag says
“Judah will live forever”
So the light answers
And so the light has answered and continues to answer. Happy Chanukah.
Disenfranchisement – One vote cast per qualified legal resident has been a good idea for some time. It has been abused in the past, with poll tax and all sorts of other keep the wrong votes from being cast schemes and smelly, winning votes have been cast by organized local group leaders and ballot counters.
All the schemes including some of the crazy gerrymandering undermine public trust and in the long run that will probably result in chaos which might be the intention of those who would like to govern without checks & balances.
Here in North West Ohio, there is a bit of a different procedure. The Dem/Prog Union Hack politicos just keep recounting the ballots until the desired effect, then stop.
“I’m pretty sure it isn’t illegal to go door to door and only “help” those who want to vote Democratic. If that’s true, it’s pretty obvious to me that the California Democrats would be much more active in this way than the Republicans in that state, who were almost undoubtedly caught flat-footed.”
In some ways, I think there are valid reasons to have ballots picked up (nursing homes, hospitals, etc) — although it would be much less amenable to fraud if they simply put a stamp on it and dropped it in the PO boxes that are always available in those places.
It’s the “I’m only delivering Dem votes” that is the sticking point for me, and the potential to “help” the voter fill in the little circles while they are picking them up.
Republicans are always surprised by the newest scheme the Dems bring out, not necessarily because they are stupid (although, in this case, it is not a brand-new scheme, so some forewarning should have been noted and proaactively countered), but because conservatives simply don’t think about doing something that has so many fraudulent overtones.
“Each person: fill out your own ballot, get it to the polling place” is so simple, really, that helping people who can’t manage that process is viewed as enabling people who probably shouldn’t be voting anyway, even if they are entitled to.
That is not voter suppression, contra the left’s hysterics.
I think the CA legislature passed this procedure with the implication that they were doing nothing more than giving shy voters the chance to voice their opinion in the election. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge. It tries to say that “everyone should get the chance to vote,” but benefits the Democrats mightily. So the Democrats push it.
Which means the Republicans could hustle too and maybe not lose the election, or it means we should all accept the premise that not everyone will choose to vote — either because they are lazy, or uninterested, or afraid their questionable immigration status will be discovered.
Or perhaps the Republicans could pander to Hispanics and other low information groups, like “vote for me and you’ll get a free cellphone.”
Or just figure they’ll never win another election. . .
Arizona has a law that absentee ballots have to be received BEFORE the election day. However, the Maricopa County registrar (a Democrat) set up “emergency” ballot stations the weekend before the election (after the deadline) to collect ballots. Then the count went on for days resulting in the looney left Senate candidate winning. Mail in ballots are an invitation to fraud and Republicans in states like Arizona and Wisconsin, who still control the legislature, need to pass election law changes to end the fraud. Wisconsin, of course, elected a Democrat Governor so they are probably going to be blocked.
California is beyond redemption now. I just read the Kurt Schlicter novel “People’s Republic,” which is about a post secession California.
Republicans ought to sponsor and pass legislation requiring every registered voter to cast a vote.
I more or less agree with Neo here- the Republicans in California were caught flat-footed. In other words, they deserved to lose. Like it or not, the Democrats set the rules in California, so game them exactly the same way as the Democrats.
Having come recently Venezuela, I assure you that these are exactly the sorts of electoral shenanigans that were/are used by the Chavistas. What you described was the electoral tricks of 15 years ago. Every election they became more blatent. Now, they simply inform the voters that if they don’t vote for the dictator, they will have their property expropriated, lose their jobs, and lose their food subsidy. Their thugs are in every voting place to assure compliance.
And, of course, you should mention the race in North Carolina where it is being alleged that the Republican winner was using ballot harvesting.
Look, if Democrats are going to “cheat”, you need to match them tit for tat.
It is my understanding that even if there were some shenanigans in the North Carolina congressional election, the number of ballots in question are insufficient to change the outcome.
Democrats here cheat routinely. The accusation against Republicans is most likely sheer projection, because they didn’t cheat hard enough in the district to win.
You non-Californians live in a dream land… especially up in the Puritan Northeast.
What you’re looking at is Population Replacement.
PERIOD.
Nothing less.
As for these offices, of course they were stolen.
Ask Al Franken how that’s done.
I just saw a note that in one CA district 120% of the voters voted. Ah yes the old Vote Soon and Often.
No one should be registered to vote without a birth certificate and (if born other than in the United States) proof of citizenship. Period.
We should then eliminate all early voting and mail in ballots for all except those who will be away from their polling location on election day. Then, registered voters only vote on election day, with some sort of mark to show they’ve voted (like the purple thumbs in Iraq!). And vote only on paper ballots.
That’s the only way to prevent fraud.
Mike K: I am 44% into Schlichter’s newest, and having great fun reading it.
Kelly Turnbull and a sidekick, a prattling AOC-like imbecilic xir-denizen of the People’s Republic, are undercover in Germany.
It’s a hoot.
Kelly’s speech in the central foyer is a thing of parodic beauty.
The important thing is to change the rules frequently.
There are lots of dirty tricks that can be used until then: follow any Republicans trying to do the same and film them, threaten them, scratch or egg their cars, puncture their tires, etc..
By the time Republicans catch on and organize a harassment-proof operation, Democrats will have moved on to pontificating about the evils of ballot harvesting.
Maybe they’ll file a civil rights suit to force voting organizations in red states to go from door to door and collect everyone’s vote at no charge. Or maybe they’ll make voting mandatory. No vote uncounted, doncha know.
This is the advantage of doing whatever you need to do, changing the laws as often as convenient, in the unbridled pursuit of power. Having no fixed principles (and a stranglehold on state government) gives them the initiative.
The Kelly Turnbull books are getting too dysphoric for me. I think I have to take a rest. I’m reading about the Battle of Canae. Less violent.
Election fraud has always been around, but it is getting worse. When elections are stolen from the truck of a Buick, laws are arbitrarily enforced, and the bureaucratic state is oppresive; the nation is headed down the road to 1984 Chicago style.
Don’t we all wish for the good old days of Tammany Hall!
MB:
Having no fixed principles…. — Oh, you mean as in the Living Constitution. [ snarl ]
@Matthew M: All ballots in Washington — and I believe in California now — are mail-in only, and must now be postmarked by Election Day, not received. Thus, “post-election absentee ballots” are a deliberate feature of the system, not a bug.
This will end in blood, shattered bones, visceral organs on the ground and walls, and much sorrow. Deja vu all over again. We, as in our ancestors, have seen this before.
Bryan Loverly, California still has polling places on election day. It does appear, though, that a lot of ballots are mailed in.
Julie near Chicago — at least in the old days in Chicago, you got something for your vote — when you called up the alderman to tell him there was a pothole on your street, it got fixed!
When I asked people here what they and Trum was going to do about all the Demoncrat elections being rigged in 2015, crickets were only heard.
Now what are they going to do about it? Just crow about Trum victory, can’t get enough of winning?
Kind of hard to win when your elections don’t matter.
Y,
At a moments notice I am ready to go Unintended Consequences. But in sleepy rural Iowa 90% are on my side of the divide. I’ll hold tight until the invasion.
Securing mail in ballots is not to difficult. Give each ballot an unique barcode. Each region has a barcode range. Make only enough regular ballots as their are registered voters. For provisional ballots, barcode and color them differently so as to be easily identifiable. Any duplicate ballots or out of range ballots would be known to be fraudulent. This limits the fraud to intercepting ballots for actual voters and faking voter registrations. Much more work than ‘finding’ ballots.
This is why Florida Democrats pushed so hard to restore voter rights to felons by way of a ballot proposal. They don’t need the felons to vote; they just need the ballots printed. The Broward County Election Commission will take it from there.
The Republican party doesn’t care enough about winning elections to do anything about it.
when you called up the alderman to tell him there was a pothole on your street, it got fixed!
Not now. You have to fit the ethnic profile and it isn’t Polish !
When I was a kid in Chicago, if somebody was sick and you wanted to get them into Cook County Hospital, you didn’t take them to the ER. You called the Alderman’s office.
What stops someone from picking up Republican ballots and tossing them in the trash?
Mongo:
I have no idea what happens these days in California, but to the best of my recollection from years ago in other states, there were people from both parties involved when ballots were opened and/or counted.
Winning elections is necessary until elections are no longer necessary.
MAil-in ballots arean open invitation to fraud. There is no chain of custody. Nothing prevents the sale of a signed ballot or the coercion of the voter, Motor voter registers people without any proof of citienship (at least in CA.) allowing illegals to vote. Ballot harvesting allows ballot destruction, substitution and addition of ballots from non-existant or dead voters present on unmaintained voter lists, especially inactive voter lists (both of which are publicly available). There is almost no risk to submitting fraudulent mail-in ballots.

How is ballot harvesting by party affiliation not unconstitutional? Sounds like it violates the franchise, or the Equal Protection clause, or something.
