More “Midnight Run”
While we’re at it—and to get some relief from all the angst right now—an earlier post today where I added a clip from “Midnight Run” reminded me of how much I love that movie.
Love love love that movie.
And so, just for fun, here’s another clip:
And this, one of the most touching scenes in any movie, ever:
This is an exceptionally funny and under-rated film.
“Officer Foster Grants”
Brilliant movie. Absolutely wonderful. I’ve watched it at least 30 times.
There’s a scene where De Niro is a jerk while Charles Grodin tries to rescue him from a river. Grodin says “you’re making it very difficult for me to do the right thing Jack”. That’s how I feel about voting Republican this election if they don’t confirm Kavanaugh next week. They’ll make it very difficult for me to do the right thing.
All the directions they could have gone, all the choices that would have botched where he sees Denise again. I can’t think of any way to improve the way they handled that scene.
Just watched it. Great movie Neo, thank you. It put me in a little better mood today.
I never saw it — great clips mean now I have to.
But he should have accepted his daughters money — and then come back, personally, and paid her back.
Love means willing to lend … AND to borrow. And pay it back.
One of my favorites is “The Last Run” about a getaway car driver who agrees to do one last job,
“Moron #1? Let me talk to moron #2.”
Wow, what a great scene. I loved the movie, too, and remembered it as very funny and engaging, but I had forgotten just how good it was. The acting in that daughter scene is just excruciatingly good, on everyone’s part. Time to watch it again!
One of the best movies ever!
Now 30 years old!
Great movie! Think that’s the only DeNiro performance I really enjoy; he is perfect. The entire cast is. Dennis Farina is a favorite, as he could so easily play both cops and bad guys.
Agreed. One of my favorites too.
One thing I enjoyed when I first saw it — at the time, I was still serving as a military policeman — was that De Niro ACTED like an ex-cop. He was a bounty hunter, and acted like one, but in times of stress he reverted to acting like a cop. He does this consistently, right down to that moment near the end when Yaphet Kotto asks “Why are YOU smiling?” and De Niro responds: “I feel like a cop again”.
And yes, this is a marvelously quotable movie. “You guys are the stupidest bounty hunters I’ve ever seen! You couldn’t deliver a bottle of milk!”
It’s also refreshing, now and then, to enjoy a movie that has absolutely no romantic content whatsoever.
Daniel Schwartz:
Except that in that scene with his ex-wife, you can tell that he still loves her.
