The new trend: socialism with a pretty face — 16 Comments

  1. If you’ve got a pretty much clueless, heavily propagandized population, many of whom have no real idea of what Socialism/Communism are, or their actual history–people who have been told by pretty much every one of their teachers that Socialism is just great–fairness and equality writ large–a population that for the most part has no certain knowledge of the piles of bodies, and the violence, poverty, and the misery Socialism/Communism has left in the wake of it’s implementation in many nations around the world, then a pretty face has a pretty good chance of selling it.

Such a pretty face may also be able to sell the lie that whatever “failures” in implementation might have occurred, whatever distant echoes of these abject, violent, and horrific failures–the charnel houses they have left behind–some people might have heard, once true socialism is successfully implemented–and, this time, it will definitely be successfully implemented–Utopia will be at hand.

  2. Side-by-side…Salazar’s better looking (to my old eyeballs) but they both have that “I’d be happy to slit your throat you capitalist pig” look.

One of my uncles used to say “don’t date crazy.”
These 2 are deep into that category. O-C a lot deeper…but they are both there. Completely intoxicated by the Commie-Kool-Aid.

  3. “once a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state.

For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader [and] the barbarians enter Rome.” Author and U.S. Navy Lieutenant Robert A. Heinlein

“Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude.” Alexis de Tocqueville

“Democracy is indispensable to socialism. The goal of socialism is communism. Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.” Vladimir Lenin

“When the taste for physical gratifications among them has grown more rapidly than their education . . . the time will come when men are carried away and lose all self-restraint . . . . It is not necessary to do violence to such a people in order to strip them of the rights they enjoy; they themselves willingly loosen their hold. . . . they neglect their chief business which is to remain their own masters.” Alexis de Tocqueville

“The greatness of America lies not in being more enlightened than any other nation, but rather in her ability to repair her faults.” Alexis de Tocqueville

  4. They typify the Democratic Party and all its members: stupid, resisting education in facts, liars and, ultimately, females who make it on their backs, just like the Hollywood casting couch of old (and they were 90% Weinstein Dems back then too).

  5. “Would either Ocasio-Cortez or Salazar have won their respective primary races had they not been beautiful young women?”

The Miss America Beauty Pageant is no longer about beauty. Our elections are no longer about policy and substance. The world has inverted. It is to weep.

  6. I will not not vote for a pretty face. However, voting for a pretty face on its own merits is diversity or color judgment.

  7. “Would either Ocasio-Cortez or Salazar have won their respective primary races had they not been beautiful young women? I have no way of knowing”

You know for sure in Ocasio’s case – she is no way “beautiful” unless you are turned on by big teeth and cray-cray crossed eyes. Salazar is pleasant looking but “beautiful” is a stretch. Disclaimer: I would not be accurately described as “beautiful”. Or “handsome”.

“…the parallels between Salazar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are hard to overlook. Salazar pitches the same brand of Democratic Socialism as her New York colleague and she’s got that “ready for TV” look which makes for great advertisements. And again, much like Ocasio-Cortez, she’s got that compelling life story which speaks to diversity, struggle and the promise of America for aspiring immigrants. It’s that last bit which is problematic, as John pointed out when he talked about her “curiously shifting” background story. Many of the claims she made regarding her upbringing, her religion, her family”s economic struggles and even her place of birth have been called into question.”

    To say the least.

“Now, in a new interview with New York magazine City & State, Salazar’s brother Alex and her own mother are calling her out for this fictional life she claims to have led, clearly implying that she’s bringing discredit on her family.
    …[long list of discrepancies]…
And this is her own mother and brother going to the press to shoot down her stories.

Will any of this have any impact on her election prospects? Tough to say. This material isn’t getting all that much play in the local press so many of the voters in that senate district might not even know about it. And even if they do, will the local Democrats care? Julia Salazar has one of those life stories which just tugs at your heartstrings and she checks off most of the Democrats’ demographic boxes. Why let a little thing like reality spoil all the good times?”

“Rather than being some sort of outlier or even the root of the problem, isn’t Julia Salazar more of a symptom of something larger? I’ll actually agree with Weiss when she says that there are a lot of conservatives out there who find some of the President’s tweets and comments distasteful and a distraction from pressing issues, but still support him because he’s getting the job done. Salazar is similarly trudging off to Albany with an albatross of proven dishonesty hanging around her neck, but she’s promising to serve up the meal that the socialist wing of the party craves. …
What makes Salazar’s sins perhaps even worse is the uncomfortable fact that she’s peddling positions which were antithetical to her less than a decade ago. As Weiss reminds readers, it wasn’t all that far in the rear-view mirror when the candidate proudly proclaimed herself to be pro-life, a conservative Christian Zionist and a registered Republican. By the time she set up her run for office she was pro-abortion, an advocate of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement against Israel and a warrior in the fight to “dismantle capitalism.” It’s true that people’s views can evolve over time as they take in new information, but Salazar is still in her twenties. All of this happened virtually overnight and it was an awfully convenient realignment to match the values of the community she needed to win over.

Post-truth politics is one thing. What Salazar has managed to pull off looks far more like the most successful snake oil sales rally seen in the modern era. And she’s being held up by progressives as yet another face representing the future of the left. Is this really something to celebrate?”

  9. Revolutions have often used pretty girls as banner boards and mascots. They are usually powerless tools.

Witness Iranian Revolution and also North Korea’s congregation of middle management tend to have a lot of women in them.

  10. She was trying to get use of someone else’s money for her own purposes. She’s a socialist in both word and deed! She should run top of ticket in 2020 for the Democrats.

  11. It’s good to see Democrats working to narrow the “babe gap” between the parties.

Conservatives have long boasted their babes are better than Dem babes and there was some truth to it — consider Sarah Palin vs Hillary Clinton or Nancy Pelosi.

  12. BTW did anyone notice how much Sarah Palin looked like Laura Roslin, who became “President of the Twelve Colonies” in Battlestar Galactica (the 2003 reboot)? The names were even close.

The executive officer, named Saul Tigh, also resembled John McCain. Curious.

BSG started great and had some interesting ideas, which seemed to grow out of 9-11, but quickly turned to rabid anti-Bush, anti-Iraq War propaganda as the mood in Hollywood changed.

  13. They pick Congress-critters using the same criteria as the local Spanish language network uses to hire the weather forecaster. She must have all the right “assets”, ya know what I mean??

  14. BSG started great and had some interesting ideas, which seemed to grow out of 9-11, but quickly turned to rabid anti-Bush, anti-Iraq War propaganda as the mood in Hollywood changed.

BSG is only truly original freakish weird when the Mormons/LDS people do it. That’s because the original author was telling a theological message with the colonies as tribes of israel.

I have no bias as a judge of humanity and this world, towards or against socialists and capitalists. They are merely the tools and toys that mortals want to play with. They are free to enjoy themselves as they see fit.

This is not a matter of correct or incorrect to me.
