Welcome to the new site! [BUMPED UP—scroll down for new posts] — 34 Comments
The text is a lot bigger, which (for someone with bad eyes) is a good thing. Also, the field of view is larger as well. Also nice. I’ll keep poking.
And being able to edit out my typos for the first five minutes is a plus. Fat fingers, don’t you know.

I like the brightness, and also like the larger type. Well done.
Congrats
The recent comments section on the sidebar is one of the best new additions. Helps to give an idea of where people are commenting. Hopefully will help avoid lower posts getting lost.
A nice upgrade, Neo. Well-done!
More accessible feeling, or possibly that is actually — more inviting. I like the larger type and the new overall look. Somehow feels more new, contemporary — which is what you want. Yet, it’s still Neo! 🙂

HUZZAH!
This is actually much easier to read! Well Done!
Nice, clean and shiny, it smells just like a new car.
About the same, not much of a change. The text was always easy to read while online browsing for me because I zoom things in at 150-200% on a 1440×900+ resolution screen. Now it is like 1980x something.
The text can be as big or small as I wish.
Let’s see if it still remembers the cookie profile info.
Nope, you copied the same problem when it removed the save info checkbox, and for some browsers like Brave, won’t save it.
Nice little touch I just noticed is the apple icon now shows in the bookmark toolbar. It makes you very easy to spot.
Hope it’s beginning to feel like home on your side.
I like the new look, but one thing is different. I use a Chromebook now quite a lot, and it uses the Chrome browser exclusively. I have found a Chrome browser extension called WhiteBuster that is really great at allowing the user to change the background color of webpages, to enhance readability. It works great on the old neoneo.com, but on the newneo it has no effect. So I am back to reading your website with the old, harsh white background. I am not a website designer, so I don’t know if this is something that could be adjusted easily, but I thought I would point it out anyway. Completely cosmetic, and I love the site in any case. Thanks!
Ymarsakar:
When this site became operative the other day, the “save info” checkbox was working fine. I certainly did not remove it. It just happened, for some reason, but it didn’t happen immediately after the transfer. I’m going to have to discuss that with the developer.
Neo: It looks great and I too like the larger text. And I concur with Griffin re the “recent comments” section on the sidebar (that feature should be especially useful for a chronically “late to the thread” commenter like me!).
FYI: The “Neo’s Amazon” bookmark I created a few years ago that stays parked in my ‘most visited” banner (ribbon?) on Firefox still seems to work fine: it still takes me to my starting page at Amazon and when Amazon opens from that bookmark the address still includes the word ‘neo’ [“….. =neo0b-20&link…..”]* so I guess it should still credit you on my (infrequent) purchases from Amazon using that bookmark.
I also see that your ‘Amazon link box’ in the new sidebar works fine as well (it takes me to Amazon already logged in to my account).
Very well done. And congratulations on finally getting this formidable project past the goal line.
* FYI: When Amazon opens from your sidebar box it shows exactly the same URL address as the one that appears when I open Amazon from my own “Neo’s Amazon” bookmark, which I try to use whenever I log onto Amazon (whether I’m on your blog or not when I decide to shop Amazon).
Well, my employer blocks your new site (but n not your old one), so I won’t be reading it on my lunch hour. We’ll see how commenting goes.
I just saw Death of a Nation.
Now I know Jordan Peterson must steep himself in that history.
D’Souza even had a lengthy discussion in the movie with Richard Spencer and the idiot who organized Charlottesville.
The left has all ALL the blame.
We believe in freedom, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yes, the state has a role, but it should be limited. Period
Looks good!
Congratulations! Looks great! The large font is great for these 70 plus eyes. Let’s hope the ordeal of migrating blogs is over, or at least, minimal. I’ve noticed the “save info” box is gone. Not a big deal, but convenient.
It looks pretty snazzy and I haven’t noticed an increase in my subscription fee.
I’m moderately color blind, and while the old hyperlinks were a little hard to detect, the new ones (dark green?) are even more difficult. They’re easy to see when they brighten up on a mouse pointer roll over, but just too dark otherwise.
TommyJay:
Oh, dear! I never thought about colorblindness. I would imagine that for the colorblind, a lot of things are hard to detect online, things that give no problem to people who are not colorblind.
The new hyperlinks are red. Cranberry-red. I chose that color to match the color of the jacket of the Churchill book in the header photo, plus the red line underneath the header photo. It’s for visual harmony, and they are quite bright actually if a person doesn’t have a problem seeing color. When moused over and highlighted, they turn chartreuse, which is a VERY bright green. The color of the apple in front of my face in my neo photo. That’s why I chose bright green for the hyperlinks.
Both colors are very bright and both were chosen to harmonize with the rest of the blog and make for a pleasing situation rather than a cacophony of color. I’m sorry a colorblind person has problems with it, although I certainly understand it would constitute a problem. But I wouldn’t know how to change that and make it easier, and still keep the aspects of the blog that I’m trying to achieve for the majority of people.
Very clean design and easy to read. Two thumbs up! And glad you kept the “flavicon” apple (if I got that lingo right). Makes the bookmark easy to locate when I make my daily stop here 🙂
It just happened, for some reason, but it didn’t happen immediately after the transfer.
It has to do with the comment importation code, I would surmise. You were importing in posts or comments, and it got attached.
Same day as the transfer, I saw the box. And it was working, but it was a different code. Now it seems like you are using the old comment code. I can’t see the code exactly from here, so I don’t quite know exactly the difference. But it should be easy enough to compare side by side for someone that knows how to debug html.
I did a little bit of debugging C++, so usually in these situations the conflict can be isolated down due to timeline code changes.
I don’t see a “save info” checkbox today, but it must have been there when I posted a comment before as my info is, in fact, saved.
I love it! It’s bright and easy to read, something that matters to my old eyes — and of course, the wonderful content remains the same.
Congratulations on the new site, Neo!
For the colorblind reader, Windows 10 has some ways to change the colors so that a colorblind person can see the text better. Here is a link to an article that tells how to use the accessibility features. I found the word colorblindness in the High Contrast section.
You need a long piece of steel wire for whatever.
All you have is a wire hanger and a rubber hammer.
So you start pounding it and straightening it on the floor.
You never get it quite as straight as you’d like, but as Theodore Bikel once said, “It’s good enough for folk music.”
You need a website/blogsite for whatever…
Neo, you might want to check your description of Maggie’s Farm.
Otherwise, looks good.
Excellent improvements as others have noted. How rare to see website changes that actually make a site better! Congrats!
First, the site is beautiful.
But second, and I’m probably alone on this, but I would like to see more words on a page. I think the best thing about your blog is the quality of the thinking and writing, both yours and that of many commenters. I would bet that most of the words that appear here are typed in with a full-size keyboard, rather than some miniscule little thingy on a smart phone. This ain’t Twitter. Much of what appears here is to be taken seriously (with welcome exceptions [It’s always time for Jell-O]). Most of what I’ve ever read that was serious appeared in 10-point Times Roman.
