In case you missed it—here’s the wedding cake and Cupid
I posted the much-requested photo of my wedding cake and ornament in an addendum to the previous post. But in case you missed it, here it is:
And here’s a closeup of the ornament:
To get the detail in the photo I had to light it in a way that ended up making it look more green than it really is. It’s actually more of a bronze color, like in the wedding cake photo. That Cupid has been in my family since the 1880s, when it was used for my grand-grandparents’ wedding.
My wedding was a modest one, as you can see from the size of the cake. It only had to feed 35 people who had already stuffed themselves with dinner. Weddings tend to be a lot more elaborate and over-the-top these days, but mine was in my parents’ house and it was just the way I wanted it.
Beautiful idea to have Cupid as the ornament! And the cake is so romantic.
Both the cake and the ornament are So pretty and unusual.
It’s a lovely cake and Cupid is cute. I am always amazed at what people spend on weddings nowadays. And the audacity of those who do “destination” weddings is really amazing.
I love that cake and ornament. It’s very Victorian. And the cake tasted SOO good!
The marriage didn’t last, but it had a good run. Thirty-one years. So Cupid must have been doing something right.
31 years is a great run, beats mine by 1 year. The cupid is nice, my ex also wanted a small wedding, but with her dad being a long time Teamster Steward and I being in the Navy at the time (hence the s1c moniker) it kept on growing to about 100 at a nice banquet place in CT. Still it was smaller than the bachelor party (100 sailors and 100 teamsters in one place made quite a party).
The Cupid is a good tradition, hopefully my daughter will keep up the tradition of her great great grandmothers wedding dishes being used at the head table at her wedding.
Oh I love it! It looks fantastic; and the history behind it is just as fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
31 years is nothing to sneeze at, but from my POV it is sad it is not still accruing more years. Not a criticism, just a bit of sadness.
parker:
It makes me sad, too.
Fortunately, though, my ex and I are still very friendly.
