I will not…
…blog about Fergie’s anthem singing.
I will not blog about Fergie’s anthem singing.
I will not blog about Fergie’s anthem singing…
…although it seems everybody else is.
I will be strong, I will hang tough on this.
I will not even link.
So I had to go watch a quick video. It’s not as bad as I thought (the small portion I saw) – it’s different, but still nice.
move along now, no reason to comment either…
Stay strong, Neo. Stay ARMY STRONG!
Who’s Fergie?
Seems there is some sort of timer on the occurrence of the ‘my personal Star Spangled Banner’ happening.
I’m with Julia, the part I heard was not objectionable.
Ya know, I’m not a big Fergie fan. Someone elsewhere called her a spoken-word artist, and I think that’s apt. I’m also touchy about folks who use the national anthem in bad ways.
But this was not a bad performance.
Hang in there, Neo. No more than five minutes ago I restrained, with a mighty effort, the urge to click on a video of the performance which appeared on a news site I was reading. I find it useful in such situations to think of the wise warning: “You can’t unsee/unhear this.”
Though at my age there’s a very good chance that fairly soon I’ll have forgotten it.
It wouldn’t be so bad if it was just a pop song that she was putting her own stylings to: the national anthem is about we not I. It’s almost like deciding you’d rather the flag be #F2003C,#F5FFFF and #3457D5 instead of #BF0A30,
#FFFFFF and #002868.
I (ashamed) listened to the whole thing: I have to call it a thing.
The Star Spangled Banner is a song of exultation; it is not a dirge.
However, I have to say that her rendition, as poor as I think it was, was far, far better than RoseAnne Barr’s which was a slap in the face with a dead flounder.
She didn’t screech like Roseanne, but she sang it like a lounge singer. I almost expected to hear the clink of ice cubes in a glass, and see a piano player behind her, tickling the ivories….
How ’bout them Yankees!
See, ya’ll spoiled Neo’s meme. Ya had to talk about it.
Instead, I can recommend watching the Olympic ice dancing long programs by Virtue & Moir (gold medal), Papadakis & Cizerone (silver) which was artistically beautiful, and fourth place Hubbell & Donahue (USA) which was very soulful.
Bronze medalists, the Shibutani’s (USA) was technically good but otherwise blah. File it with Fergie.

I confess to running over to take a look at your designer flag. Sure glad the Founders didn’t have access to HTML color codes.
Just by coincidence, I had my Cub Scouts doing the Flag lesson tonight, and we talked about the symbolic meanings of the Red, White, and Blue; and analyzed the meaning of the Pledge.
There is still hope for the younger generations, if we can hold back the tide.
