One of these things is not like the other?? — 16 Comments

  1. Pretty amazing that just last night, Polanski was the guest of honor at La Cinémathé¨que Francaise, Paris’s cinema museum, at the start of a retrospective of his films. Here’s the Daily Beast’s take on it — the ending paragraphs:

While topless demonstrators hurled insults at the Cinémathé¨que last night, France 5 aired an interview with Polanski during which he discussed his career and his latest film, Based on a True Story. At no point during the 22-minute segment did the presenter, Claire Chazal, mention Samantha Geimer or the latest sexual assault allegations against him. The focus was squarely on Polanski the artist and cinéaste. In her introduction, Chazal called Polanski a “major director” and a “visionary man.” The only time she alluded to any controversy surrounding Polanski was a brief remark about how he had experienced “much personal drama.”

Roman Polanski is an old pervert and a convicted sexual predator. But unlike Weinstein, who was a businessman and a hustler, Polanski is also a highly talented and much-lauded director. For many in France’s film industry, the latter will always trump the former.

  2. “Polanski’s offenses seem so egregious that I’ve long wondered–long before the post-Weinstein frenzy–how they can continue to stand by him.”

Because Hollyweird has been protecting Polanski for SO LONG that they cannot bear the thought of changing their “minds”.

  3. “Polanski’s offenses seem so egregious that I’ve long wondered–long before the post-Weinstein frenzy–how they can continue to stand by him.”

Fanatical devotion. He tells them what they want to hear, and the faithful obey. This whole episode is literally the left-wing ideological equivalent of the televangelist scandals of the 1980s.

  4. “For many in France’s film industry, the latter will always trump the former.”

My daughter’s 10th grade english teacher tried to sell me the “appreciate the art but not the artist” line after she showed Polanski’s “Romeo & Juliet” in class once.

The pervert left will always make excuses for each other until it becomes expedient to not do so.

  5. The only difference is the one Ken Mitchell nailed- protecting Polanski is a long term endeavor, decades, in which many people would literally have to reverse their public stances.

It is easier to publicly state you “Never knew,” or “Could never prove.” It is much, much harder to admit you were wrong all along for protecting Polanski with shows of public support.

  6. So Polanski is free and Harvey is free?

And Americans still think they are the boss of DC… chuckles, what is this plot line.

When black people get put into jail, this is what the Left feeds them, to nurture the hate and resentment. Not only is the Left immune to the so called “Rule of Law”, but their abuses create the nazi feminists and black radicals who are going to create the death squads that end “American peace”.

Of course, our patriotic militias will respond and counter force it. Until then, enjoy the Hollywood side shows that most of you all paid for. The money went to a good cause.

  7. Hollywood’s support of Polanski most likely centers upon self-preservation. He may have known of too many skeletons in closets. Should undeniable proof emerge, America will not forgive, nor can the Left excuse widespread pedophilia and pederasty.

  8. Those on the left who commit these assaults are forgiven simply because the are among the elite in their profession. Slick Willy is a perfect example. After the bj in the White House became public knowledge feminists announced they were willing to don presidential kneepads because Slick protected abortion at any time in gestation.

Weinstein came out after the scandal broke announcing he was spending big bucks on ‘women’s’ issues and would work to destroy the NRA. As long as they support leftist causes and they can pretend to be humble, generous to the cause, anything will eventually be forgiven.

  9. I had known most of the allegations, but had not read the gory details. Now that I have, it is relatively clear that he was a scumbag and serious criminal. This is more or less what I had believed before, but let me consider the other hand since no one else has.

Polanski’s life would have been GREATLY different had Charlie Manson’s followers had not carved up and murdered his wife Sharon Tate and their unborn (8.5 month) child. It seemed to be one of the great Hollywood love affairs. And purportedly, the murder really screwed him up.

I suspect that many who have seen “The Fearless Vampire Killers”, a fun vampire goof of a romantic comedy starring Polanski and Tate made shortly before their marriage, have a tough time hating the guy. Plus there is the crass but important factor of looks. Weinstein looks like an ogre and pig and Polanski looks like the Slavic boy next door. Finally, are there many 13 or 15 year old Polanski victims? One could assume it was a one-off, but that seems to be rare for pedophiles.

The fact that the mother of the 13 year old girl WAS involved before the supposed photo shoot, means that Polanski must have been well informed about the girl. So yeah, he’s a child rapist.

  10. One has to consider the connections.

Roman Polanski’s first American film was Rosemary’s Baby. It was about a pregnant woman who believed that everyone she knew was evil. The star was a young Mia Farrow, who was just out of her marriage to 31 years older Frank Sinatra (who urged her to do the movie).

Mia Farrow says she carried on with Sinatra until he died, through her marriage to Andre Previn and her relationship with Woody Allen. She has said that her son Ronan Farrow is likely to be Sinatra’s son.

Woody Allen’s relationship with Mia Farrow ended when Mia discovered Woody was banging Mia’s adopted daughter Soon-yi Previn. The age difference between Allen and Soon-yi was remarkably similar to the age difference between Sinatra and Mia when they married.

Mia has accused Woody of molesting another of her adopted daughters. Allen denies this. Allen has expressed support for Roman Polanski. So has Harvey Weinstein.

And who is the reporter who broke the Weinstein story? It’s Ronan Farrow.

  11. What TommyJay said: Polanski raped a 13 year old girl whose mother, IIRC, did everything to push her daughter on Roman. That is not to excuse it: he committed a heinous crime and fled rather than face the consequences. I just wish the mother had not been involved — that kind of confuses the whole matter, especially Hollywood’s reaction to the crime. Many in Hollywood assuredly know of kids whose parents have pushed them on writers, directors, producers and actors. Maybe they were one of the people who had a kid pushed on them. And maybe they worry that Polanski knows about their crime(s). Just a thought.

  12. Gordon:

There is no question that Ronan Farrow was motivated by a number of personal events.

However, Mia Farrow never said Ronan was likely to have been Sinatra’s son. She said “possibly.”

In addition, Dylan was the daughter of Mia who is alleged to have been abused by Woody Allen. It’s not just Mia saying it, though—Dylan herself (now adult) says it. And Dylan is not just Mia’s adopted daughter (although Soon-Yi Previn, Allen’s wife, is indeed Mia’s adopted daughter). Dylan is Mia AND Woody Allen’s adopted daughter. He is Dylan’s adoptive father.

    See this.

  13. F:

I’m not sure what you think is relevant about the mother’s “pushing” the daughter on Polanski. So what?

And she didn’t push the daughter on him sexually. Not that it would have diminished his responsibility even if she did.

  14. TommyJay::

As for whether there are other times Polanski did something similar, there’s this allegation.

I also think you are over-romanticizing Polanski’s behavior regarding his wife Sharon Tate. He may indeed have loved her, but his sexual behavior—and now we’re talking about behavior he has admitted to—was pretty bad [emphasis mine]:

[Polanski’s lawyer] Kelsey-Fry has said Polanski’s morality was not on trial in the case [a libel case in which Polanski sued Vanity Fair]. But it was front and centre during proceedings…

Kelsey-Fry acknowledged on Monday that Polanski had a “somewhat laissez-faire attitude to casual sex”. Polanski admitted infidelity during his marriage to Tate, and said he resumed having sex about a month after her death.

Vanity Fair lawyer Thomas Shields said the director, who faces arrest in the United States since pleading guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl, was a “a fugitive from morality”.

Shields accused the director of an “inability to tell the truth when it matters”.

Generally composed during several hours on the stand, Polanski choked up and dabbed at his eyes with a handkerchief when he was asked about photos he’d been shown of his murdered wife.

He sharply contradicted Shields when the lawyer accused him of boasting about sleeping with two flight attendants the month after Tate’s death.

Polanski said he had slept with flight attendants both before and after his marriage, but never two at once.

“Not that I object to it,” he said. “Particularly in those years it would be something I would not miss if I had the opportunity. But I would never have promised them to make another couple of Sharon Tates out of them.” [this was the allegation made by Vanity Fair that sparked the libel lawsuit]

    More:

Polanski, who is now married to the actress Emmanuelle Seigner and has two children, said that his brief marriage to Tate was “very happy”. Wiping away a tear, he added: “She was just, in my eyes, a perfect woman.” He remembered the period after her death as “one of the darkest moments in my life”. His relationship with Tate was not monogamous and he had sex with other women both before and during their marriage. Asked if she knew he was unfaithful, he replied: “She must have. She must have suspected. She knew what kind of man I was when we met and at that time we talked about it.” Asked if she was happy with his “philandering”, he said: “I wouldn’t say she was happy with it. I can’t tell. She was probably not happy with my philandering but she was happy.” He said that he had sex from about a month after Tate’s death. For years, all he had was casual sex, as he was unable to develop another lasting relationship with a woman. He told Thomas Shields, QC, for Vanity Fair, that sex was proof of his continued existence. “I mean that the death of Sharon and the whole tragedy and of my friends was immeasurably sad to me, and in such moments some people turn to drugs, others to alcohol, some go to a monastery – to me it was sex. “I looked for solace and I tried to forget. I tried to work – I wasn’t able. I tried to be useful to the police. “Sex was not as enjoyable as it was before, but it was helping me to go through.” Polanski said he had sex at least on one occasion with two women at the same time – one was 15 or 16 and the other was 18. He told Mr Shields: “I can assure you it wasn’t illegal. It was within the laws of that country. I made only one mistake and I am still suffering for that.”

That’s all testimony from the same libel trial. So he admits having been unfaithful to Tate (the perfect woman) during the marriage. He admits having sex with two women/girls (one “15 or 16”) in a country where an adult having sex with a 15 or 16 year old was legal.

There are far worse allegations about Polanski’s marriage to Tate, but they are unsubstantiated. But I think his blaming his sexual behavior on Tate’s murder is belied by his behavior before his marriage and during his marriage.

More about the rape situation here.

  15. I laughed today when I saw they suspended House of Cards.

Spacey plays a psychopathic power-hungry politician who uses sex, threats, and murder to advance his political career.

    Somehow ironic.

  16. As more is revealed about Kevin Spacey, from his past attempts to molest and possibly rape 14 & 15 year old boys, to his current harassment and predatory antics while filming House of Cards, it is obvious the man is a disgusting lech. I wasted my time trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
