Avik Roy on the Trump Obamacare announcements
Long ago I decided that Avik Roy was the best person to read on everything related to Obamacare and health insurance reform in general. He’s the most objective single source I’ve been able to find on the subject.
A little while ago Roy weighed in on Trump’s announcement regarding the ACA:
The Trump White House has issued two Obamacare-related policy announcements this week: announcements that some characterize as “gutting” or “sabotaging” the health care law. But a sober, factual analysis reveals that the Trump decisions will be fairly modest””and largely positive””in their effect.
The entire thing is well worth reading.
I also had heard that Avik Roy was the right’s expert on the subject, and from a standpoint of volume of knowledge perhaps he is. But on the other hand, I also saw him shilling for Trumpcare/Ryancare, or whatever you want to call the disaster that was GOP “reform.”
Maybe it would’ve been better, but from my standpoint “better” isn’t good enough. I want back my economic freedom.
Ever since that article, I’ve been a bit skeptical of Roy.
Matt SE:
You call it “shilling.” A shill is an accomplice of a hawker, gambler, or swindler who acts as an enthusiastic customer to entice or encourage others.
a person who pretends to give an impartial endorsement of something in which they themselves have an interest.
Do you really think that of Roy? Or do you merely disagree with his recommendation?
My point is that he’s been trustworthy in the past, and I’ve read him a lot. I see no reason to think he was “shilling.” I think he sincerely believed what he wrote. He was not 100% enthusiastic, if I recall correctly, either. But he believed it was on the whole a very good bill, and I have come to trust his judgment and certainly his sincerity in trying to give us his honest evaluation of the situation.
Perfection was not possible and is not possible.
Anybody that doesn’t toe the Breitbart line or the Alt Right pro Trum line, is a shill or a cuck or something analogous.
