Another Evergreen story
Listen to this guy’s story (hat tip Legal Insurrection):
Bad things are afoot at Evergreen and elsewhere.
Every time I hear a story like this I think of Alan Bloom and his description of Cornell in the 60s, the seed of all that’s happened since.
Many people will see this and declare it a result of the Gramscian March, but with a few ultra left exceptions I’ve always considered that to be apophenia: seeing patterns where none exist.
The campus has fallen to this low state through economics and normal social reaction.
After the SCOTUS case of Griggs v Duke Power, business could no longer test for aptitude in employees (or prospective employees). They turned to bachelor’s degrees as proxies for IQ tests (which at the time were a pretty good replacement).
This corporate credentialism drove enrollment figures up, which educrats loved. They continued to lobby their Democrat representatives for subsidies, and since there were no countervailing forces for cost containment, prices rose. (Democrats also have a propensity to subsidize the markers of success instead of the actual causes, so this was right up their alley).
Costs continued to rise until they started approaching the economic value of an education in this advanced economy, which is high.
This gold rush mentality with accompanying inflation bloated the educational bureaucracy. Standards fell as more educrats funneled warm bodies through the system to capture the government funding. In light of this anything-goes mentality, grievance studies programs were expanded.
They kept churning out waves of mal-educated students, flooding the country with SJW “woke” snowflakes (after every possible sinecure had been filled).
Now we have a glut of unemployable little shits who have a true chip on their shoulders, as they were absolutely lied to about the value of their educations.
I see the degradation of standards as nothing more than the usual response to a sector that has grown beyond its usefulness due to government interference in the market.
Here’s the Legal Insurrection link which includes a summary of the video plus quoted highlights.

A brave young man who speaks the truth. I certainly hope he is left alone after this video. But I don’t think that will happen.
People nationally that visit rightward leaning media might think that this entire TESC story is a big deal here in the Puget Sound area but they would be wrong. This whole story has received only cursory coverage in the local media. It is a combination of the leftist inclinations of the region combined with the ho hum same ol’ same ol’ nature of TESC. Maybe it’s worse now but this place has been crazy, go nuts for decades.

putting aside that the soviets and bella dod teachers unon and feminists 68 communist revolution movement, fronts and such were all avoidable if one took interstate intrigue seriously and not ignore it as it wasnt real and did no harm… [other than the end of our state and the future of total despotism]
and J Coyne wants post birth abortions (infanticide, up to adults), because they would end up like Rick Hoyt, and he thinks Dick Hoyt would be evil as my parents would be.
ALL the old ills have been stewing till the heirarchy is made:
those born after who never had to forget
those closer to them that dont beleive the stories are real
those a bit closer that believe some, but blame governments and all manner of abstractions
then comes the children of the children that were there, some refugees that know a lot, some just born here and know less, but they know the stories are cleaned not unreal.. that they are worse than whats known
then comes the children of those who served and they know some, but dad whould not talk about it much.
and then comes the long dead almost all gone people who served, and knew what NAKED communism was about and saw how CRYPTO communism replaced it once the public was not on board enough to do without it.
but hey!
if you wanted to save the ideals, and such, you had to stop the women from punking their offsprings future, debasing themselves and negating tradition and fathers, promoting mental disorders as normal, drugging the kids, and on and on and on… and thats at best, at worste they are left in the hands of social justice wrriors, people teaching eugenics, race theory, white race hate, and tons more..
without doing that, you could never prevent anything
now, there isnt enough of them to reverse things even if they did wake up!!! they self exterminatd till you can see dual articles talking about demographic collapse and having to import people to stop that.
of course no one believes that..
but then, it doesnt matter what you BELIEVE
it only matters what is
and if you believe as they want that this hasnt happened, then your going to sit and wait and do nothing as the house around you burns down cause you just dont believe its going..
Gramscian March, but with a few ultra left exceptions I’ve always considered that to be apophenia: seeing patterns where none exist.
you can only think that if you dont or havent read the ideas the papers, the working group stuff and ignored all the stuff most dont know happens in terms of teachers conferences etc.
example.. Bella Dodd was the head of the communist party USA, and the teachers union… think that the education system went communist is no pattern? then there is the teachers college, which is in columbia, where the men of the frankfurt school ended up and proceeded to directly infuse education from there, this is also the school with the largest history of russian spies and associations caught… what about dewey and his copying of the soviet school system?
only someone that does not know whats missing in the history would think that this is a partern that isnt there…
go to sleep, these are not the droids your looking for!

Of course, Critical Race Theory

Of course, the marriage of “Critical Race Theory” with Paulo Freire’s “Pedagogy of the Oppressed” and its offspring of “white privilege” has nothing to do with this. It’s all just economic and ‘normal’ social reaction… but a ‘reaction’ to what? Surely not “Critical Race Theory” and “Pedagogy of the Oppressed”?
“After the SCOTUS case of Griggs v Duke Power, business could no longer test for aptitude in employees (or prospective employees). They turned to bachelor’s degrees as proxies for IQ tests”
This is the first I’ve heard that IQ tests were once a primary determinate in employment among academia. Somehow over the past 50 years I missed it…
@arfldgrs:
As I said, with a few ultra-left exceptions.
The mass of people moving through the institutions don’t live and breathe Marxism. They’re just looking for a job, even if they lean left.
This point also addresses @ GB.
Critical Race Theory is what the system becomes when there’s nobody enforcing standards. They could’ve chosen any other Marxist offshoot they liked (in fact, they’ve cycled through several fads over the years), but whatever they chose it was going to be leftist.
Finally, I wasn’t reserving my employment critique to within academia. In fact, Griggs had nothing to do with academia, and academia isn’t driving the market now either. All other jobs are.
But referring to academia in particular, what do you think admissions tests are? What do you think the GRE is?
They are proxies for IQ tests.
Matt_SE: I saw some of the Gramscian wedge up close and personal when I was in college in the seventies. I worked with them as a leftist activist in the eighties. In the nineties I was focused on my career and dropped out of all that. After 9-11 I was “mugged by reality” and switched sides.
But what I saw of the left was not just the invisible hand of economics in the institutions but committed people devoted to the cause and for a while I was too.
I’m sure there are some of them, but millions across the US? I doubt it. Every movement is driven by its extremists. They are the most vocal and visible.
But the rank-and-file have other things that drive them, and it isn’t the rise of the proletariat.
P.S. The Revolutionary War was fought by 3% of the population.
Matt_SE: You say, “Every movement is driven by its extremists.”
Then you say, “But the rank-and-file have other things that drive them.”
But the rank-and-file are the “movement” and they are, as you say, “driven by its extremists.”
However, I take your point that financial/societal incentives play a part.
Persistence. The average student is not a lefty activist. But the world view and information comes from or is shaped and restricted by activism.
Matt, as one inhabiting the belly of the beast, I can tell you directly that you are dead wrong. The humanities have been taken over by committed SJWs. They are now trying their hand at the STEMs. Bio is next on their list. There was an article last week that at a specialized engineering confernce there was a mandatory session on diversity training. You are living in an unreality if you think the present state of academia is due to economics.
Just hold on thar:
