I love this suit of Melania’s
Shortly after Donald Trump was elected, I said that one thing I planned to enjoy was Melania’s fashions.
And so I have.
I especially love the simple, elegant suit that Melania wore today on her visit to France. Not everyone can wear these midi skirts; it helps to be tall, and Melania is almost six feet tall even without her heels, so she can wear it with tremendous panache (hey, that’s French!).
I feel for Macron’s wife Brigitte having to stand next to her. Not only is she about fifteen years older than Melania, but she’s so much smaller she would look like a pipsqueak in comparison no matter what she wore. But I see her choice as especially infelicitous. A miniskirt? Why? I know she must think her legs are her best feature (I share that conceit about myself) and the legs tend to be the last thing to go, but miniskirts except for the most casual of occasions are not flattering to those over 60. Maybe not even for those over 50. They make us look somewhat desperate, I think.
Note also, the lengthy discussion of the various handshakes. This seems to be a relatively new obsession that arrived shortly after the election:
White dress is way too short.
In every single way, Trump term is so, so much superior to Obama’s failed presidency.
Well the first lady is a beautiful woman. She would look lovely in a gunny sack.
I don’t think the jacket should ever be longer than the skirt.
The computer generated voice over fascinated me.
Sophia Loren and Gidget.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Neo: Perfect.
I have some questions regarding english grammar in this article can someone please help me out?
You have to go back to Jackie Kennedy to find a first lady with such bearing and class.
Mrs. Macron is a lovely lady. Her dress seems to have been chosen to project a youthful appearance. And I’ll stop there.
I can see the handshake ritual becoming a contest with play by play on initial moves, retraction, feints, and grasp, all to get the “upper hand”.
Mrs. Trump is simply a beautiful, poised lady. No fear. No regrets. An exemplar of feminine dignity.
Melania and the child rapist … sad
The reason people are talking about the handshakes is that Trump has made them into childish contests, when he has met world leaders.
Macron, knowing this, defeated Trump twice when they first met. (If you haven’t seen it, do the obvous search.)
And India’s Modi defeated Trump with a bear hug.
After Obama and Trump, I hope we can elect an adult to the presidency.
Speaking of fashion, I keep hoping that neo will do a post on Samantha Cameron some time. It is my impression that she is very clever about how she dresses, as you would expect from someone with a career in the fashion industry.
But I know very little about women’s fashions.
Melania is SO lovely. But here’s a bit neo might be interested in:

liberals if you don’t like having people judging your sexual orientation why don’t you mind your own business and let the president chooses how he does his handshakes. So far no world leaders have ever complained about his handshake but the kardashian worshipping fake news media stirring up conflicts over nothing. Obama stinky smoking breathes had bothered many world leaders why didn’t they report that?

Both look women look fine. The red dress reminds me of Sarah Palin.
Mme Macron’s appearance reminds me of Jill Biden’s. She too often wore mini-skirted dresses, inappropriately, I thought, for her age and station. In Mme Macron’s case, she is a bit older than her husband and might be trying to appear younger for that reason.
Perhaps she’s been seeing too many photos of (ex wife) Ivana Trump. I cringe every time I see her photo.
I can’t understand why these people don’t get help from stylists. Or maybe they have, and this is the ‘After’ picture. But while Macron still looks fairly nice, it’s too short of a dress.
FWIW, I would NOT want to be photographed next to Melania or Ivanka.
Agree that Macron’s dress is too short, but only just a bit. It’s a stretch (haha) to call it a miniskirt. Those are usually much shorter, often barely covering the rear, and a definite fashion don’t especially for mature ladies.
Macron’s dress is nice but would have benefitted from another inch or two to reach, or even partially cover, her knees. The rest of the leg might age well, but for most of us the knees usually do not! I speak from painful experience.
Melania’s suit is lovely! I would not want to stand next to Melania or Ivanka, either.
Mme. Macron likes short skirts/dresses, so this is par for the course. Not always the best choice (http://preview.tinyurl.com/y7tv34j2).
I like Melania’s red suit – it’s almost a vintage 1940s cut, with the nipped-in waist and just-below-the-knee hem.
I’ve always been told that the just-below-the knee hemline was absolutely the most flattering for a woman of any age, since it hits at the narrowest part of the leg, and so fools the eye that the rest of the leg is just as appealing, visually. It worked for me, when I was given to wear suits as part of my job as PA/Executive secretary.
Now, I only dress up for author events – and I wear Edwardian or late Victorian garb, with ankle-length skirts, which disguise a fair number of body shortcomings…
Sgt. Mom:
I don’t know how tall you are, but for anyone who’s not tall (me, for example) I think it’s an awful length. And if the person isn’t thin, either—dreadful! Plus, if a woman has nice legs, she doesn’t want to cover them. And people who don’t have nice legs—who have thick legs, for example—usually have thick ankles, and that length of skirt highlights the ankles.
5’5″ and not particularly thin – rather busty with hips and a narrow waist. At my thinnest, size 8 or 10 depending. I always looked good in 1930s and 40s vintage-styles. The just-below the knee worked perfectly for me; heavy thighs, but nice ankles.
very Jackie-esque. Melania has great style and poise.
