An excellent essay by Ms. Hemingway, and it reinforces a point I have made a lot on different sites- most people forget all the wrong stories we have seen since November.
Also, whenever you see “anonymous sources said” that are directly contradicted by the people who should know whether or not something is true, Occam’s Razor requires you to give far more weight to the known source since anonymous sources pay no reputational price for being caught in an error or an outright lie. In addition, I think a lot of these reporters don’t actually have sources at all, but are actually in full blown fabrication mode.
