Terrorist shot dead at Orly Airport
A man on the French terror watch list shot and wounded a police officer in northern Paris before traveling to Orly airport where he tackled a female soldier and tried to take her rifle. She was among the French soldiers on anti-terror patrols of the airport. She did not release her weapon to the terrorist, and he was subsequently shot and killed by other soldiers.
The dead terrorist has been identified as Ziyed Ben Belgacem, a radicalized Muslim whose apartment was among those searched following the coordinated Paris terror attacks in November 2015.

I’m also thinking that a female officer may have been targeted because she was presumed to be easier to physically overpower. If someone is carrying a weapon, that person had better look strong as well as be strong.

And he or she better be prepared to use their weapon without a moment’s hesitation. It is a truism among people who carry weapons concealed that the time to decide if you will use that weapon is before the decision is forced upon you. Long before. Years before.
About ten years ago I was married to a woman from Avignon and we seriously considered moving there from the US, but even then the situation with young Arabs seemed so unstable that I’ve been anticipating a civil war there ever since.
Incidentally, my wife and other French that I spoke with preferred to refer to the “youths” as Arabs rather than as Muslims because “they’re not good Muslims. They drink alcohol and smoke hashish and don’t pray…. They only use Islam as a way to be obnoxious and give women a hard time.”
There was a lot of popular Marseille rap where the lyrics always seemed to be “I don’t do jihad / but I understand those who do.” Very popular stuff with good beats you’d hear outside all the time.
A woman in Dijon I’m still friends with feels herself besieged. She and a number of her female friends now take self-defense classes and prepare for things to get worse. She has been “hassled” and vilely insulted by young Arabs — who always travel in packs, and egg each other on. A common insult is to repeat the words pf Miggs from The Silence of the Lambs.
We all carry weapons: mind, attitude, hands, elbows (never forget your elbows are a hard hitting weapon), feet. Then there are blades and lead injection devices. Mind and attitude (spirit) are the most important. The female was seen as weak, that is why she was singled out. Muslim males are largely incapable of thinking females can be tough targets. Unfortunately, for the most part they are correct.
Situational awareness is so very important. I live in a low crime area, and state, but everywhere I go I am on alert. But then, I am a bitter clinger.
Recently, 60% of the French reported not feeling safe anywhere. Perhaps this attack raised that percentage to 60.5%…

Now imagine the public’s demands and government response if this represented some kind of disease epidemic — think how the USDA swings into action against food manufacturers and restaurants if people just get SICK eating non-compliant food, but especially when someone dies – even just one person.
Can any of us “bitter clingers” be blamed for thinking the governments of most countries are not serious about combating violent jihadis (whether “good Muslims” or not – hat tip miklos).

No, actually this is the ideal situation, complete with the ideal result (dead terrorist, nobody else seriously hurt). Concealed carry works the same way, you look like just another bystander until you draw your weapon and end the threat.

In the situation described, it was the terrorist who decided that “someone has to die”. It was the responder who simply replied “you first”.
Yes, but liberals (and some neo-neocons) never seem willing to frame things that way. “If only she had been intimidating, nobody would have needed to die!” doesn’t really work any better than “If only she hadn’t had a gun, nobody would have needed to die!”
