Donald Trump comes to appreciate vintage Paul Ryan — 11 Comments
Assuming that Trump actually intends to drain the federal swamp, I’m highly skeptical that Ryan and McConnell will back Trump’s efforts. I fully expect them to knife him in the back but would be delighted to be proven wrong.
Skepticism is warranted for all three Geoffrey. Cui bono.
Casinos can be built on drained swamps, but then why go through the expense of draing a swamp when a swamp can be sold as beach front property?
Trump compares Ryan to a fine wine – but Trump doesn’t drink, right?
Trump plus Reps in Congress won — so as long as Trump wants to do Rep (conservative?) stuff, the Reps will back him.
Trump wants to DO LOTS of stuff. If he and Ryan are scratching each others’ backs, in order to get the stuff done which they agree on, then more will get done.
Like ObamaCare in reverse.
The big question will be whether it helps the rural Workers enough.
My own guess is that tax cuts plus regulation-waived infrastructure construction, plus a Wall, will result in enough econ growth that most folks will be somewhat enthusiastic for Trump in 2020.
I fully expect enough crony capitalist contracts to key Reps to allow Trump to work with GOPe fairly effectively.
Will Trump (R) boondoggles be more effective than Solyndra? Probably yes.
With more religious freedom.
Surellin,
🙂
Tom G,
Even at this late date you apparently believe that Ryan and McConnell support conservative principles. Which begs the question; how much more disappointment will it take before you abandon your rose colored glasses?
Yes, they are against Obamacare. No, they are not against open borders.
Geoffrey Britain:
We’ll see.
I’m beginning to love that phrase.
We’ll get to see who’s right about McConnell and Ryan—and about Trump, for that matter.
I wonder if Trump’s being deviously clever with that “fine wine” line. It could be an oblique allusion to that $350 bottle of wine Ryan enjoyed at a restaurant in D.C. a few years ago.
Geoffrey:
They aren’t rose-colored glasses. Trumpkins wear the Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses:
“The Joo Janta 200 Super-Chromatic Peril Sensitive Sunglasses have been designed to help people develop a relaxed attitude to danger. They follow the principle “what you don’t know can’t hurt you” and turn completely dark and opaque at the first sign of danger. This prevents you from seeing anything that might alarm you. This does, however, mean that you see absolutely nothing, including where you’re going.”

So the ChiComs haven’t waited until January to test both Trump and to give BHO a parting shot in the South China Sea:

They seized an unmanned underwater vehicle (drone submersible). Cheeky bastards.
Put on you JJ 200 SCPSSs nothing to see here, move along!
