Are you going to watch tonight’s vice-presidential debate?
Well, are you?
I don’t think I will; certainly not the whole thing, anyway. As you probably know, I detest debates, and vice presidential debates just don’t ordinarily matter.
On the other hand, I imagine that most people who do decide to watch it will feel some sharp pangs at the fact that these two guys, not particularly well known before being tapped to be running mates and not even all that well-known after, are head and shoulders above the presidential nominees to whom they’re tethered.
Irony.
I have met Mike Pence. Mike Pence is a friend of mine. I will watch.
Kaine is one year older than me and he is an alum of Kansas City’s Jesuit high school. One of us got it wrong, so I will watch him closely.
Won’t watch.
And now off topic: update on my fit to the 538 data. Their data has HRC soaring, and Trump moving into the abyss, which seems at odds with the polling I’ve seen other places.
Anyway, both trends are now fit with a 3rd order polynomial with an r^2 of 0.95. It has HRC reaching 100% probability on Oct 15 and of course Trump at 0%. Of course that projection is to be taken with a load of salt.
What will it take to bend the curves back around? VP debates? The Oct 9 debate? Wikileaks??
Stroman v. Tillman holds far more consequential interest, be it only the endtime for one bunch and the first post-season step for the other: this, despite that it’ll be played out on top of a carpet, which is an act against the pagan god overseeing the diamond, not to mention the knees of the participants.
I’ll be watching because I want to see Pence in action. I used to see him from time to time on the telly when he was in Congress and found him to be generally competent and conservative. C-SPAN ran some of his speeches the other day. I found them to be very thoughtful and well delivered.
My guess is that moderator Elaine Quijano (CBS) will attempt to get him to distance himself from Trump on various issues. (AGW, immigration/deportation, child care, – to name three where they differ somewhat.) Thus showing that even Pence doesn’t agree with Trump, the deplorable candidate.
I expect obvious softball questions to Kaine. The MSM isn’t even pretending to be objective or neutral in any way now.
I plan to watch the debate, as I think it likely that one or the other will be the President in 2019.
Not watching. Will watch Netflix instead
I feel that I already know enough about both of them, so will not subject myself to the msm spin machine. Dinner on the front porch with next door neighbors followed by hotly contested hands of euchre will be far more interesting. And, evenings of dinner and cards on the porch will end within a matter of weeks. Use them or lose them.
I will record the debate and I currently intend to watch it on a delayed basis. (I’m going to be attending a continuing legal education event.)
I think Geoffrey Britain is correct: it is “likely that one or the other will be the President in 2019.”
On another note, see the discussion here on the FBI’s agreeing to destroy evidence:http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2016/10/immunity-with-a-difference.php
And,
CLINTON DELENDA EST!
I’ll watch in the hopes that Pence isn’t a doofus, and can articulate Hillary’s corruption much better than Trump could.
Matt_SE,
Pence is not a doofus. He is in the center, shaded slightly to the right depending upon the issue, of the political spectrum. Of the 4, he would make the best president.
I will watch — am watching now — because I too believe that one or the other of these men is very likely to be president in a few years.
IMO, Pence is doing well despite Kaine’s constant interruptions. Kaine’s doing the junk yard dog routine. Relying on the viewer’s ignorance, a tried and true tactic of the left.
This debate won’t change anyone’s mind. If both Clinton and Trump are fated not to complete their term, Pence will bring sanity to the Presidency.
Kaine, the fanaticism of the Left.
No surprise, the ‘moderator’ clearly favors Kaine, most obviously by allowing Kaine to constantly interrupt without reprimand, while reprimanding Pence the few times he has interrupted. She’s also is asking questions targeting Trump while giving Clinton a pass.
I wish Pence was more forceful in calling both the moderator and Kaine on their behavior. Politeness is lost on such as they.
Kaine is a nasty piece of work. Typical Alinskyite in his tactics. Pence is a gentleman and not quite able to rebuff Kaine in the way he needs to be put in his place. Still, on substance, if anyone cares about that, I thought Pence was superior to Komrade Kaine.
Holy cow! Pence was awesome!
This is going to leave a mark. The VPs matter this year.
Pence won, though I thought he could’ve been a little tougher. I agree the moderator wasn’t very objective, and Kaine was an ass.
This will sway a very few voters. The real test now is for Trump in the next debate. If he blows it, I’m not sure the 3rd debate will matter.
Kaine’s name is pronounced ‘Cain’ and the surname Pence is arguably derived from the concept of repentance or penance. Both men gave evidence of their inclinations last night.
Penance:
Penance is repentance of sins.
This year, the VP picks and debate matter more than most other years. Mike Pence was a great choice, and he should reassure those who might otherwise have one or two minor doubts about Trump. And let’s not forget that Pence rhymes with fence. Build a fence!
Kaine deserves extra scrutiny because of the nature of the person he is running with. It’s been a while since the last time a VP had to take over, and it’s bound to happen again. In Hillary’s case, there will inevitably be more political scandals, because of her nature. Besides that, she is old, and in poor health, and lacks stamina. Something will come up, since she is just not physically up to the job.
