I ♥ Richard Thompson
I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again—I love this guy. Been to about ten concerts, which is ten more than I’ve gone to for almost every other singer, even ones I like.
You can get a taste of both his talent and his humor in this video. Lyricist, musician, performer, and just the right age:
Richard Thompson videos are like potato chips for me, only much less fattening:
And here’s a song that’s purely humorous, but it gives me the sense I’ve got a chance with Thompson (who, alas for me, is married):
Love that sarcastic little smile.
Concure on RT, followed his music since his days with Fairport Convention. I have seen/heard him live 5 or perhaps 6 times. His 1000 Years of Popular Music recording is one of my favorites…. especially the tracks It Won’t Be Long and Ooops I Did It Again. RT is a welcome interlude from the nasty noise of DT.
When asked to choose songs for 1000 years of popular music, he actually did, in contrast to the others who did about 40 years, tops. He started with “Summer is icumen in”

Very clever
parker:
Did you know that RT wrote a song about DT a few years ago (I believe in 2014)? He didn’t use the name, but that’s who it’s about. RT wrote it after Trump’s debacle in Scotland and the resulting enmity against him there. See this.
I saw RT perform at the Andover MA library. Lucky for me, but I could not believe that the library was able to book an artist of his stature.
Too young. Mere kid. Needs some maturity. . .
neo,
Fergus Lang. “builds his towers high and slightly gasy”.
Richard and Linda Thompson’s Shoot Out the Lights is another favorite of mine. I could go on and on, but will spare RT fans from my obsession. Next neo will post a Leo Kottke video and I will blather some more.
“1952 Vincent Black Lightning”

Though I’m of the “right age” the Fairport Convention genre never did anything for me…sorry. In fact I turn that sort of music off very quickly.
Here’s who I see every chance I get; most lately at Sculler’s in Boston, and just a few weeks ago in New Haven. Probably have seen him as much as Neo has seen her favorite. I’m sure other people will turn this off very quickly 😉

What impressed me was his exquisite guitar playing in Valerie.
‘Hot for the Smarts’ makes me think of the Jimmy Buffett song, ‘Smart Woman (In A Real Short Skirt).’
Richard Thompson plays guitar with such dexterity and inventiveness that I can’t help but be both jealous and awed. The last album “Still” http://lyricsmusic.name/richard-thompson-lyrics/ is a godsend.
