Can you believe it? Another debate
Here’s an open thread for tonight’s GOP debate.
I am going out to a family event and will not be liveblogging, but I plan to chime in late this evening. Probably very late.
But in the meantime feel free to discuss the debate and anything else your heart desires.
Will Ted Cruz speak frankly and in simple terms of Trump’s flaws?
The immigration question is getting so tiresome. We know exactly where everyone stands. Can we please get to another question?
Marco finally attacking Trump. Trump University. Hiring illegals and a $1 million fine. Needs to hammer more.
President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Comacho is going to be beautiful.
Trump:
I don’t repeat myself.
I don’t repeat myself.
I don’t repeat myself.
They’re really hammering Trump, and doing a great job if I do say so. They must have gotten together and decided now is the time to unload on him.
They haven’t even scatched the surface. Should have done this LONG ago re Trump’s record.
Needed to bring up Trump’s “own personal Vietnam” and his draft dodging.
Trump likes to dish it. Is he showing that he can take it?
this debate is a sad embarrassing joke. There should be rules enforcing interrupting the other candidates. Trump’s mic should be cut if he doesn’t respond to requests. Let him have a hissy fit and walk off the stage like the belligerent teenager he is. There is no way this man should be the face of the Republican party.
I just saw an excerpt of Rubio mocking Trump on his (lack of) health care plan. Finally. I hope it inspires more take downs.
Trump came across as a bully. His response that he refuses to label the Palestinians the bad guys because he wants to be an honest broker in a peace deal is weak. Despite his call for a pause on Islamic immigration, I’m not sure he really understands Islam.
Cruz was on target as usual. His adherence to principles is wonderful however he may be too doctrinaire to make the needed adjustments when reality doesn’t comply with theory.
Rubio had a good night. I still prefer Cruz but Rubio would be a good second choice. He had a good night.
Kasich is competent and likable.
Carson is an all around good guy but had little face time and didn’t make progress.
I was surprised that Rubio went after Trump aggressively. Both he and Cruz nailed him from both sides. By the end, Trump appeared worn out. I wonder if this isn’t too little too late though.
The pundits (Fox news) are saying that Trump got beat up on by Cruz and Rubio.
I think there were some good moments – mostly by Carson and Kasich.
The main card between Trump, Cruz, and Rubio was a tag team match, with a lot of heat and not much light. I detest that kind of debate. It’s all about process and not much content. I applaud Cruz and Rubio – they have learned to do to Trump what he’s been doing all along. It exposes the shallowness of Trump, but is so stupefyingly devoid of content and manners as to appeal only to people who enjoy WWE wrestling.
IMO, this primary process is becoming a low grade spectacle rather than a quest for information about a candidate’s qualifications and ideas. I will not watch another one.
Yes the debates are pointless except that Trump has been using them to do his grandstanding routine unchallenged. They went for it tonight and it worked. Will it be enough to break the Trump spell? Remains to be seen but they left it all out there.
Yep.
Afraid they miscalculated badly early on by thinking Trump would flame out. Well, he did flame out several times; but, the truth is it doesn’t matter to his supporters. He can act the fool time after time; but he does it loudly and confidently–and apparently around 35%, more or less, of self-identified Republicans think that is exactly what the country needs at this point.
Tempted to use disparaging labels, like their hero does every time he gets near a microphone, but will refrain. Suffice to say that facts and logic are immaterial to his core.
CNN gave Trump an additional 45 minutes after the debate to “amend and extend” his arguments. And Fox did the same a little later. Are all our media outlets totally in the tank for this clown?
Yes they are in the tank for him, F. Disgusting.
I think CNN would only be “in the tank” for Trump so as to make sure he;s the one facing Hillary.
I don’t know what effect this had, but I did enjoy it, but I don’t understand it.
A 70 year old recently declared Republican with tax audits and a fraud trial pending is beating the crap out of the person who fought to defend gun rights in the SCOTUS and won.
I think Cruz is actually a humble man. I will vote for him if I have to write it in.
This debate probably went too fast for LIVs to follow any issues. It will have to be followed up by lots of ads that allow people to focus on one issue at a time. People aware of the issues will see Trump’s superficiality. I think the followup should concentrate on how willing Trump is to screw anyone he thinks is beneath him.
A lot of new anti-Trump points were raised. They need to be amplified to win the Trump poll supporters who aren’t committed Trumsters.
The media have selected our candidate, again!
Michael Adams Says:
“The media have selected our candidate, again!”
Only this time we could doubleungoodeffed(tm) – the SOB could win, and we will be blamed for the resulting disaster by that same media. How come the good guys never get to sit in the catbird’s seat?

They tend to end up dead in accidents, heart attacks, and dead in their sleep, that’s why.
