Dueling childhoods, Trump and Carson: who was/is the most pathological? — 30 Comments

  1. I sure hope some Trump supporters show up to explain how this doesn’t matter, because I’m getting worried.

  2. Matt_SE:

They’re on a thread on a similar topic at Legal Insurrection (don’t have time to find it now, but it’s there). Lots of them.

  3. Ann Coulter is slamming Rubio — again.

Rubio is in deep trouble the moment you look at his critical flaws:

    The trade deal

    Immigration

Dilbert // Scott Adams believes that Carson’s got big troubles:

But, that if Carson is President, that would quite wonderful:

Dilbert has a totally different take on Trump’s nasty speach:

It’s Adams’ opinion that MOST voters are reached through the spinal cord — not the prefrontal cortex.

( Cruz would win that crowd. )

Adams nailed it on Fiorina and her epic error WRT Planned Parenthood.

His wet robot theory is that we are a lot more subject to ‘programming’ than we can self-admit.

Like me, he sees Rubio as ideal in 2024.

He pegs the race at: Trump, Carson, Cruz — with Trump trying to shake of his REAL threat, Cruz, by rubbing off with Carson.

I contend that Cruz is destined to pick up all of Carson’s lost support. He’s the second choice of Carson’s current Iowa fan base. ( Evangelicals )

If Carson were to drop out, Trump would end up neck and neck with Cruz. And there are months yet to go.

  4. Neo — Trump is both dangerous and delusional. He really needs help. His rant about Carson and the others verges on a breakdown of sorts or the ultimate ego trip.
Ignoring the rants for a moment, why is it that he never gives any details about his ideas or proposals? Every idea of his or his opponents is either GREAT or THE WORST POSSIBLE IDEA – no specifics and, when asked for details, he simply implies he will do it because he is so much better than others. As an example, Bret Baier asked him how deportation could be “humane. His answer was : “Believe me — it will be humane.” What does that mean?”. What a bizarre individual.
If you want to see the real unvarnished Donald Trump, watch the film “I’ve Been Trumped”. It shows Trump trying to build a golf course in Ireland. He is vicious, thoughtless, vindictive, angry and, when it appears he won’t get his way, he is absolutely vengeful. THIS IS THE REAL DONALD TRUMP. It would take too long to describe the whole film but it should be a MUST VIEW for anyone who wants to learn more about Trump.
To paraphrase Trump. “How stupid can the voters be?”

  5. The air is going out of Trump’s balloon. I’m guessing he senses it and is lashing out.

  6. Trump went off the rails there. He had been toning things down lately, but he needs to apologise to Ben Carson for that comment.

  7. Don’t forget, Trump was more identifiable as a Democrat all his adult life. My theory is that he is in cahoots with Hillary to get the nomination, then do such a bad job in the general election that Hillary wins. How else to explain his bizarre behavior?

  8. My wife weirdly looked up at the TV when Trump was going on about Carson and likened it to child molestation. She was like, “what did Carson do?”

I had to explain the whole saga.

She has two boys so she knows what boys go through – I suppose. I just worry about the voters who are “low information” and don’t have Baklava sitting next to them 🙂

  9. If you really want to see what those of us in New York City have known for years, and you have an hour and fifteen minutes, check out Trump The Movie:
    http://trumpthemovie.com/watch/

This movie was made when he was just a loudmouth real estate developer and not running for anything. He threatened to sue the pants off the producers and they shelved the film. Now that he’s running for President, they said “screw him, let’s just put it for free on the Internet.” And they did. Amazing stuff, in his own words.

  10. Trump is terrifying to both Hillary and the establishment, GOPe.

He is drawing HUGE from registered Democrat voters.

These polls are not being publicised.

Cruz is up to 10% on a national basis — in some polls.

He and Rubio are neck and neck.

Carson’s got plenty of crippling weaknesses:

    1) Never been in office

    2) Not remotely as recognized as Trump

Who is largely seen as being a politician, and deemed to have been a successful player.

    3) Carson will not pull the Black vote. He’s terrific with evangelicals — but those are not a swing voters.

So Carson is actually a weak Vice-president.

Fiorina would actually be better. There is no question that she’d draw swing female voters, White female voters, the faction of decision these days.

    a) A Trump Cruz ticket would crush Hillary.

    b) A Cruz headed ticket would prevail

I can see that a Trump – Cruz ticket would generate a Reagan scale blow-out.

A Trump – Cruz administration would have the salesman on top and the thinker hustling on the inside.

If you knew anything about Trump’s business empire — it’s that he LOVES to be the front man — while he has an extremely able subordinate do the real work.

That set-up is the ONLY way that he could have ever built his empire.

    Carson would not sway Trump.

    Cruz would.

Rubio is at crossed swords on immigration with Trump.

Carson is keeping Cruz in third or fourth place.

Cruz realizes this, and is in no real position to tackle Carson.

He has to depend upon the Donald to trim Carson’s sails.

For some reason, Rubio has not figured out that Carson is the fellow standing in his way. For Carson = the not-Trump vote.

It’s hard to believe that he’s wasting his shots upon “Jeb the neb.” ( or nebish )

  11. Neo writes “I wonder if this sort of low blow is enough to make any Trump supporters turn on him….”

    So I thought, too.
But then I heard the actualitie (record of his voice and the interviewer), and how he really put it. I was close to reasonable, until he adds pure speculation (events 50 years later reveal an deep pathology? Of a brain surgeon)!

No – Trumps being laughably hyperbolic. His seeming “nsult” is really easily dismissable.

  12. An article from 1990 is an interesting “portrait of Trump’s ruthlessness as an adult.”

Another unremarked characteristic of Trump is that he sleeps very little – and has all his life!

I’ve not seen any article explaining this, either.

  13. Personally, I’m pulling for a Cruz, Carson (or Carly) ticket as my ideal.

Isn’t the first primary event about 80 days away? Almost two months.

By January, we will see what comes of the field.

  14. I am amazed that so many on the right do not see through the donald. From my pov they are desperate for the new messiah to out voodoo the old messiah. In the real world you get another tyrant ruling through the courts and EOs . the donald is as far from being a conservative as a hawk is from the moon.

  15. The answer to Neo’s rhetorical question is obvious. Trump is the most pathological personality.

  16. In case folks missed blert’s cite (4:09 PM), here it is again – –

    http://blog.dilbert.com/post/133133670296/trump-on-carson

The post describes what Trump is doing with Carson, beating an opponent. The extended comments after the post also ought to be read.

And New Yorker’s cite (6:08 PM) to the 1 hour 22 minute, 25 year old anti-Trump, documentary is utterly fascinating – –

    http://trumpthemovie.com/watch/

As a Trump supporter, I cannot recommend this Trump trashing movie highly enough.

Watched from the perspective of 2015 the documentary raises dozens of intriguing issues, not to mention ironies not intended by the makers. My guess is that viewers will be asking “Is that a bug or a feature?” throughout.

Trump is a paradoxical character, no doubt.

I support Trump because I believe he is the only one who can beat Hillary, and because he is the only one who will do what he says he will do, about immigration, about Obamacare, and about reversing the destruction of the middle class.

If we lose to Hillary it truly is all over, gone. I realize folks here have high hopes for someone else winning. I cannot see it happening. I could be wrong, and hope I am not.

LOL … and when you watch the documentary, you may even agree that Mexico will pay for the wall.

  17. parker @ 9:21 PM – – I agree with you, Trump is not a conservative. He is a nationalist and a pragmatist, which puts him in agreement with conservatives on many issues, including the destructive pc culture.

But whether in this election he is a conservative is beside the point. I can see a path to Trump defeating Hillary, and even think it is likely.

I cannot see a path for the other candidates, who have already conceded vital ground to Hillary on immigration and TPP, as well as having at best an inferior ability to fight Hillary in the upcoming death match.

  18. Yes, to the question of Trump supporters turning on him. One of his biggest supporters has been Michael Savage. On today’s show he turned. Still calling him a decent man, he said that Trump comparing Carson to a child molester was inexplicable. He asked why Trump hasn’t focused on Obama’s obvious pathology, or why he hasn’t attacked Hillary as a liar. This was a blow to Savage. He was actually dumbfounded.

Tump is over as a Republican candidate no matter what happens from now on out. A prediction? This is his way of purposely becoming a pariah. He needs an external excuse to start his 3rd party run. It was baked into it from the start.

  19. Ahhh, but once the donald is the nominee the msm long knives will be unsheathed. But do not despair, the donald will gladly, reaping millions, take the fall for the unrequited marine wannabe hillary.

  20. the donald has not said one word against hrc. Why? And why does this make anyone think he is ready for prime time against pant suit XLLL? The one who has, so far, most consisently attacked hrc is Fiorina. Why do so many who call themselves conservative think Fiorina is not a real conservative? Inquiring minds want to know.

  21. Not getting off the Trump wagon yet. He didn’t say Carson was a child molester. He just said that if you have a pathological mental issue, it as incurable as being a pedophile. That was not a good way to attack the good Doctor and I hope Trump has the good sense to back away from that attack. Carson has been very gracious about it. The more I see of Carson, the more I like him. What I’m not seeing from Carson is a “get things done” executive approach. It is that lack of executive experience that stays my mind on him.

There are two issues that keep Trump high in the polls. Illegal immigration (check Jazz Shaw’s rant on that) and job losses in the US to foreign countries. You can bet the average UAW member is picking up on that message. And that explains why the Democrats are scared of Trump. He will steal the white working class vote that they used to take for granted.

Tea party folk gave the GOP the House in 2010 and the Senate in 2014. They thought they had elected conservatives, but their candidates almost all turned into progressive pigs at the DC trough when they arrived in DC. Ted Cruz is the honorable exception. That is why every establishment candidate is so toxic. That is why Trump and Carson are topping the polls and staying there. They are complete outsiders.

When people talk about the relative merits of Bush and Rubio, they are talking about two insiders who will be barely distinguishable from Hillary Clinton. We’ve figured this out, now, so we’d rather go with a crude, brash, billionaire who isn’t bought, than the pablum served up by the GOP (Ted Cruz excepted).

  22. The Reuters Daily tracking poll has Trump at 42%, Carson at 23%, Rubio at 9.6%, Cruz at 7.4% and “Poor Jeb is Dead” Bush at 4.2% as of yesterday.

The graphs look pretty smooth over time, so I suspect they reflect reality in so far as any poll can.

  23. I sure hope some Trump supporters show up to explain how this doesn’t matter, because I’m getting worried.

Puppets and tyrannies go hand in hand. The only difference is who thinks they are on top. That isn’t necessarily true.

People want Trump as their new Messiah to save them. Nothing will save a corrupt and decadent America. But the assumption that Trump is the one pulling the strings, rather than a puppet of the Left, is potentially an even more dangerous form of delusion.

  24. If people think defeating HRC is going to save this nation, they have a long way to go.

It’s another mirage. The nation can no longer be reformed, via elections, period.

  25. All these horrific gaffs have left Trump with 42% of the likely primary Republican voters.

Left unsaid is that Trump pulls massive support from independents and Democrats.

    HRC is gritting her teeth.

I just can’t see Carson beating Hillary.

He won’t pull the Black vote. Because he’s as white as Clarence Thomas. And you know how white he is.

Rubio is dead on immigration, the touchstone of 2016 — doubly so now with Paris Jihad.

It’s down to Trump and Cruz. They are the only fellas that have a shot at Hillary — and I’d put Trump ahead of Cruz.

Both are outstanding persuaders, Trump simply has had more public exposure and name recognition.

In many ways, he is a repeat of Reagan — who — if you remember was diss’d shamelessly as being a light-weight actor with extremist views.

He proved to be a killer persuader, which is the primary task of that office.

It’s where GWB was such a failure. Even when he was right on policy — he would not defend his position. He normally didn’t even try. He was content, like his father, to be proven right by history. Well, the world doesn’t work to that schedule George !

  26. Well, the world doesn’t work to that schedule George !

The world does work on the schedule of centuries and so does Islam. But Western babies with their gratification fixation, wants results fast. Like their fast food.
