Bergdahl charged with desertion
It’s about time:
Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the U.S. soldier who was recovered in Afghanistan last spring after five years in captivity, faces charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, his lawyer said Wednesday.
Eugene Fidell, Bergdahl’s attorney, told The Washington Post that his client was handed a charge sheet on Tuesday. Army officials announced they will provide an update in his case at 3:30 p.m. at Fort Bragg, N.C., but declined to discuss new developments ahead of the news conference…
The charges come after a lengthy investigation launched last June after his recovery and a review by Gen. Mark A. Milley, the commanding general of U.S. Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg. Bergdahl has faced a slew of accusations from his fellow soldiers that he abandoned them on the battlefield and caused a manhunt that diverted resources from the war effort and put lives in danger.
Bergdahl will faces charges under articles 85 and 99 of the military’s Uniform Code of Military Justice, Fidell said.
I imagine there’s an interesting tale of the fight by the Obama administration to keep this day from ever happening. This could get very, very interesting.
And we traded 5 of the worst Islamic Jihadists for the yellow bastard….and the 5 are probably trying to kill more Americans right now.
Bergdahl and his family are beneath contempt! His actions directly caused lives and manpower to be wasted. This Courts Martial should have been called before the last election, and, if the world is just, he would be in front of a firing squad.
This is not a case of justice being absent in the world, this is a case of a profound lack of integrity by this administration. Bergdahl should indeed face a firing squad, instead when all is said and done, he’ll probably get a pardon from Obama. Obama’s motivation being to disrespect America, which he’ll justify by saying, “he’s suffered enough”…
I have a very sour sense that His Infantile Majesty—having released 5-Islamist Butchers for Little Bo—will not just close the Guantanamo Prison, but hand the entire American property over to his ancient Communist friends, The Castros, before he leaves the catastrophe called His Legacy.

Isn’t desertion during war punishable by death? It would seem appropriate here given that others died trying to ‘save’ Bergdahl. Maybe that is why Bergdahl looked so worried when he was turned over. He knew his likely fate.
Good for the Army. Someone has the courage to defy the Anointed One.
The messiah will pardon him at the 11th hour just to shoot the bird at evil colonial America.
Given the purging of the military general officer class over the past few years, I am amazed the Army found the cojones to charge him with desertion. The inside story must be fascinating.
I have an idea. Give him back to the taliban dead or alive and take back the 5 taliban being held in Qatar.
A handful of American soldiers have defected to North Korea. My understanding is little effort was made to bring them back. Why this guy? Was Obama looking for a good photo op? Surely the Army knew the guy had deserted.
Probably top of the list for Presidential pardons.
The first two theories that came to mind when I saw this news:
Maybe Bergdahl didn’t come through with whatever Obama thought he would get from him (intelligence? backroom deal?)
Maybe the Pentagon is using this as a shot across the bow to let Obama know they don’t intend to be pushed around much longer.
Theory two is encouraging….

For Bergdahl the result has been five-years of captivity.

When President Obama traded one deserter for five evil terrorists hell-bent on destroying America, rational people did not believe the Obama administration’s claims about this traitor’s “health crisis,” or claims that he served “with honor and distinction,” and certainly not President Obama’s claim that this was a good deal for America.
After putting the country in danger, President Obama celebrated Bergdahl in our Rose Garden, arm in arm with his smiling father greeting Americans in Arabic and Pashtu, as our loyal troops cringed. In fact, in the days that followed, the Obama administration actually smeared the vets who came forward to tell the truth about Bergdahl’s traitorous desertion.
Now finally public disclosure tells the truth — that Bergdahl is a deserter. In my book, he is a traitor. Also, reports show the majority of the terrorist leaders Obama set free in exchange for this deserter have taken steps to hook up with the enemy — their Taliban pals in Afghanistan. As rational Americans predicted, the prisoners didn’t see the light while being freed at Gitmo, instead they burrowed further in the darkness of jihad, laughing all the way back to the battlefield to rejoin their death cult in the fight against U.S. troops, for when they are soon released from probation in Qatar, nothing stops them.
President Obama’s prisoner swap clearly undermined our forces during a time of war; he violated law by releasing terrorist prisoners without giving Congress the required 30 days’ advance notice; he created more distrust among our allies; he disrespected our loyal and sacrificial troops by actually honoring a traitor; and most significantly, our own Commander-in-chief endangered America.
Congress, if putting our nation in danger doesn’t rise to the level of “high crimes,” then nothing does. But since you’ve unequivocally and inexplicably taken impeachment off the table for anything Obama does while on your watch, what do you intend to do about this? If you do your job as balancers of power, we can surely expect repercussions, correct? While you’re thinking about your responsibility, consider the men who DID serve with honor and distinction, but of course were never celebrated in our Rose Garden. These men of courage and good character were killed while obeying orders to find and protect the celebrated deserter Bergdahl.
Mr. President, if you can pull yourself away from your all-important basketball brackets and buckets of popcorn, you too should take a good look at these selfless young troops who gave all for their country. We await your explanation on all of this; certainly even a complicit media deserves it. More importantly though, the families of our fallen heroes deserve the most heartfelt apology.
