Obama as Spock
Matthew Continetti demonstrates his Trekkie creds with an in-depth comparison. It’s tongue-in-cheek, but it kinda works:
Not only do Spock’s peacenik inclinations routinely land the Enterprise and the Federation into trouble, his “logic” and “level head” mask an arrogant emotional basket case. Unlike the superhuman android Data, a loyal officer whose deepest longing is to be human, Spock spends most of his life as a freelancing diplomat eager to negotiate with the worst enemies of Starfleet. He’s the opposite of a role model: a cautionary tale.
How insulting to Mr. Nimoy…
An old Cherokee is teaching his grandson about life: A fight is going on inside me, he said to the boy. It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves. One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego. The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith. This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too. The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,Which wolf will win? The old Cherokee simply replied, The one you feed
Obama has clearly demonstrated in his actions as President that he has fed for much of his life the angry, resentful wolf. Now he is allowing it to bare its fangs.
Let’s see here. Spock…
…was not easily offended, no matter how serious the insult.
…did not engage in petty gamesmanship and was a loyal member of the crew and subordinate to the captain.
…took full responsibility for his actions when he stepped out of line or was wrong.
…willingly sacrificed his life to save the ship and crew.
…had a sense of humor.
I’m sorry but I just don’t see the comparison. Oh wait! Obama and Spock do have one thing in common…
They’re both fictitious characters.
KRB
Kae Arby:
It’s tongue-in-cheek.
Everyone knows that Spock was a much better man than Obama. He was also probably a better Vulcan 🙂 .
I know, but it’s still a stupid comparison. I think Khan would be more appropriate. ^_^
KRB
Kae Arby, I’m not sure Khan would be that good of comparisons either. Khan’s reign had actual achievements.
It is all tongue in check; but, still I can’t resist in saying that Obama would never, NEVER, wish that anyone else live long and prosper without thinking how he could take away their prosperity. (because, you know; “at some point you’ve earned enough”)
Had to think a moment but the Star Trek character that Obama most resembles is the pretentious, officious human diplomat in the episode; “The Trouble with Tribbles”. (he’s the one dressed in black, being ignored by Kirk)
Unfortunately, they differ in that the show’s character, in the end did little harm.
I don’t buy this alleged similarity between Spock and Obama. To begin with, Spock had funny-looking ears whereas Obama…
Hmmm. Well there’s also a missing “o” in Mr Spock. But you can’t make offensive jokes like that on Star Trek, or public websites.
Fascinating.
