RIP Susanna Merry Hanson
Victor Davis Hanson has lost his beautiful and accomplished daughter Susanna, 27 years old. It is heartbreaking to see the photos of this vibrant young woman and know that her life was cut short. I offer my condolences to the entire Hanson family.
I want to add that at the end of the piece Hanson writes:
Remembrances may be sent to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (340 W Fallbrook Ave Suite 101, Fresno, CA 93711).
I am highlighting that because I know quite a few people with one or the other of those diseases, and the cause has special meaning to me.
Condolences to a fine historian and man, and to his family.
All we can do is offer heartfelt prayer that comfort will be given to this fine man in his time of grief.
Life is a chaotic journey with ripples that are smoothed by the will and actions of good men and women. It’s unfortunate and disappointing when a life ends prematurely.
I was sick when I saw this.
It is terrible and tragic when parents lose a child. RIP Susanna Hanson.
So sad, she sounds like she was as remarkable in her own way as her very remarkable father. Prayers for her soul and for the family left behind.
Sad news. My condolences to VDH and hid family.
Just a small point of correction. In the linked obituary her name is spelled with an ‘h’ – Susannah. It’s a small point but a way to honor her that little bit more.
That just breaks my heart. Such a loss is a crushing blow to parents.
To VDH: I’m so sorry you lost your beautiful daughter. May God comfort you and all your family..

We can prevent or treat so many diseases that used to kill the young. Leukemia and lymphoma are still terrible scourges but hopefully not for much longer.
Steve,
When I was young, a leukemia diagnosis for a child constituted a death sentence, with no reprieve. Now things are very very different. And yet a not-insignificant percentage of leukemia patients still will die of the disease. Progress, but still more progress to be made.
