My first presumption is that the west African hospitals were the number one source of the contagion… A contagion that was being spread by asymptomatic citizens/ presumed malaria victims. Once the hospital system simply collapsed, this transmission ended. This is compounded by the effect of rural people staying entirely away from the cities. So it’s been (mostly) quarantine that shut down the contagion. Ebola is still out there, still deadly, and ready to snap back if given an opening.
