On the silence of the liberal media
From Roger L. Simon at PJ:
Obama is beside the point. They [the liberal media] don’t even like Obama anymore. Nothing could be more obvious. Almost nobody does. But they won’t say so in public because that would mean that they would be revealed as fools who believed the most banal tripe imaginable. It would also mean admitting Barack Obama never really existed, that they invented him. He was their projection. Barack Obama is the creation of the New York Times, et al. Without them he would never have happened and they know it.
So the media are left in an untenable position. If you say Barack Obama is a mistake, then you yourself are a mistake. Who wants that?
No wonder they won’t investigate the scandals. No wonder they won’t report any of this. They are too ashamed of themselves to speak.
I sort of agree and sort of disagree. I think the MSM is deeply disappointed in Obama, and deeply reluctant to say so. But I doubt they’re as deeply disappointed as all that, not deeply enough to question themselves and their own role in the whole thing, or their belief system. That takes a great deal of courage and integrity, particularly for people with entrenched and vested interests—such as the Times editors and their ilk, as Roger points out—who would therefore be extremely reluctant to do it.
So no, my hunch is that they’re not especially ashamed of themselves. And I’m pretty sure there’s very little real soul searching going on, except perhaps to try to figure out how better to engineer things for Hillary or Elizabeth Warren or whoever emerges as the next liberal nominee.
No, I’m afraid what the Times is doing is ass-covering. They can’t think of a way to spin Obama’s abysmal failures any more (they do have certain standards, although those standards are pretty low), so they are silent.
They’re also very accustomed to setting the news agenda, and think they can get away with ignoring news they don’t like. That Times slogan “All the news that’s fit to print” takes on new meaning, doesn’t it? Up till now I’d always assumed they were conveying the idea that they cover the news thoroughly (they’d like us to think they cover it objectively, too, but that’s an absurdity). But did you ever wonder what sort of news isn’t “fit to print”? Why, it’s news that would hurt liberals and help conservatives, that’s what news. And it doesn’t matter if that news constitutes the biggest scandal since Watergate—potentially even bigger than Watergate.
At the time of Watergate, I never for a moment stopped to wonder what would have happened had Nixon been a Democrat and done exactly the same thing. Well, now I don’t have to wonder.
[ADDENDUM: Please see this Onion article for some comic relief:
More than a week after President Barack Obama’s cold-blooded killing of a local couple, members of the American news media admitted Tuesday that they were still trying to find the best angle for covering the gruesome crime…
“What exactly is the news hook here?” asked Rick Kaplan, executive producer of the CBS Evening News. “Is this an upbeat human-interest story about a ‘day in the life’ of a bloodthirsty president who likes to kill people? Or is it more of an examination of how Obama’s unusual upbringing in Hawaii helped to shape the way he would one day viciously butcher two helpless citizens in their own home?”
“Or maybe the story is just that murder is cool now,” Kaplan continued. “I don’t know. There are a million different angles on this one.”]
Very true: we do see what would have happened had Nixon been a Democrat.
However, we now know that Lyndon Johnson was using the FBI to spy on Barry Goldwater’s campaign, and look how nicely the Democrats and the media hid that little gem!
The truth about JFK’s health and about his womanizing was also kept carefully hidden from the public.
The media double standard is very old.
And in fact the current president has had so many scandals that have been ignored or underplayed that it’s hard even to keep track of them.
Jeannine,
Indeed.
And that’s part of the strategy—to get us to forget how many there are. They all start blending together. Even I—who write about this every day—find myself forgetting many of them when I try to list them.
The list is long and growing longer. The key difference with the messiah’s scandals (actually they are conspiracies) is that people are dead. The conspiracy to flood the border with illegals will cause more deaths from disease and the violence commited by MS-13 yutes and other murders, rapists, and child molesters.
One can only hope at least some of the victims will be members of the MSM or their close family members and friends.
Roger Simon may be right, but it’s a lot more complicated than that since so many in the MSM have direct ties to the White House – remember this chart?
http://preview.tinyurl.com/ph2dr9l
And then there are journalists whose spouses works at an organization that partners w/Obama or the Democrat party, such as Wash Post’s Juliet Eilperin. Her husband, Andrew Light, works for Center for American Progress, which has very close ties to the Obama administration; he implements a lot of their recommended policies, and he recently re-hired CAP founder John Podesta.
They’re too invested in Obama succeeding to ever cover him honestly.
And when the media aren’t silent, they’re laughing about the whole thing. Right now at the NY Times, for instance, there’s this piece: Those New Lois Lerner Emails…
Those new emails are the ones concerning Lerner’s questions about the invitation meant for Sen. Grassley that she received instead, and then she wondered if maybe he should be audited — called a “push to audit” by the House Ways and Means Committee.
Anyway, the article makes light of the whole thing — you see it really wasn’t so much a push, it was “actually more of an aborted nudge.”
Read the whole thing and the comments, but only if you want to raise your blood pressure.
Here’s a cartoon that explains the evening MSM news.

Well done. Excellent comment on the two meanings of “fit to print.”
excellent cartoon JJ.
Unfortunately I suspect this Watergate on steroids is going to go nowhere. The bad guys own the police and they learned from previous mistakes. There is no fear of discovery (everyone knows they are guilty) or punishment (whose is going to provide evidence and who is going to make an arrest). There is no chance that they will be held accountable other than by Fox News and a bunch of racists whose time has come and gone?
This will be another legacy of the Obama era, directed persecution by public institutions without consequence.
Were the German officers disappointed in Hitler? Perhaps, at some point and not at others. But only a few dared to do anything about it.
As the Left unveils the curtain on their Evil, they make it easier and easier for the rest of the nation to “pull the trigger” without feeling guilt. The number 1 obstacle to people winning battles isn’t the lack of supplies, it is the lack of will. The number 2 priority is still supplies, no bullets, no firing after all. Without the Will, however, people will not fight, even if they are better armed than the US Regime.
However, we now know that Lyndon Johnson was using the FBI to spy on Barry Goldwater’s campaign, and look how nicely the Democrats and the media hid that little gem!
FDR was doing it as well. This was an entirely domestic run FBI operation. If Nixon negatively interfered with the FBI for just this reason (Nixon always suspected he was being spied on, and the WH tapes were somebody else’s idea or at least under somebody else’s control), it might have been the FBI doing the IRS and ATF jobs in the 21st century.
The FBI had a specific name for this program.
When FBI agents hear a President, like Nixon, say “he wants to know”, what do you think their traditional history informs them to do?

Neo, thanks for that Onion article. Reading it, I thought maybe the Onion is leading the way and some time, maybe even soon, someone in the MSM will start to see this the same way. But then I noticed it was an Onion piece from 2009! And here we are, five years later and still no change in the MSM. Oh well…
Ymarsakar:
Not just a few who dared do anything about it. There were more than a few. Not enough, but more than a few.
I find the story of resistance by the Wehrmacht to Hitler a fascinating one. See this and of course the more famous plot of Valkyrie. But there were others. There were apparently whole sections of the army where most of the officers were anti-Hitler and spoke about it fairly freely. I wrote about one of them here.
yeah… why would they cover no refusal blood draws?
footage filmed last year in Georgia shows cops strapping down citizens to gurneys, before using a needle to forcibly draw blood as the victim screams, “WHAT COUNTRY IS THIS?”
Georgia and Oregon enforce ‘no refusal’ checkpoints. In 2005 the Supreme Court ruled that it is not unconstitutional. [you can do it if they don’t want to take a breath test – and you don’t have to be drunk to be ordered to take a test]
in January they ruled that a warrant was needed, so judges will be at the side of the road to write them up as fast as people are pulled over
Refuse an alcohol breath test July 4? Expect to give blood
http://www.kval.com/news/local/Refuse-a-alcohol-breath-test-July-4-Expect-to-give-blood-264637981.html
But lets go back to the trivial (or lesser issue that distracts), its more entertaining than scary.
There were more than a few. Not enough, but more than a few.
Most of them were sitting back and waiting for news of Hitler’s death, or defeat in the Rhineland. They don’t count as the active 3%, no matter how many of them Hitler executed before hand.
Only the active 3% counts, the ones who were willing to get their hands dirty, before the Power of the REgime.
In 5 years we will find out that casual questions will reveal that no one voted for Obama… Just like “no one voted for Nixon”…
Hitler is the archenemy not only of Germany but of the world. When, in few hours’ time, I go before God to account for what I have done and left undone, I know I will be able to justify what I did in the struggle against Hitler. God promised Abraham that He would not destroy Sodom if just ten righteous men could be found in the city, and so I hope that for our sake God will not destroy Germany. No one among us can complain about his death, for whoever joined our ranks put on the shirt of Nessus. A man’s moral worth is established only at the point where he is ready to give up his life in defense of his convictions.
That’s an interesting quote from the chief conspirator, and it seemed they had at least 1 or 2 true believers around. But a handful of people who were willing to get their hands dirty doesn’t push it past 3% of the total pop, or even 3% of the Germany Army.
The old “Divine Retribution” and “Day of Retribution” idea comes along again.
Well, the thing is, God didn’t have to worry about 10 righteous people in Germany before it was destroyed. Since Hitler already killed most of the 10.
Ymarsakar, there were well over 54 attempts at his life that we know about, and probably many more that we will never know about (and some unknowns we know what they did but not whom they are).
Beppo Ré¶mer [tried twice! almost 10 years apart], Helmut Mylius, Paul Josef Stuermer, Helmut Hirsch, Josef Thomas, Maurice Bavaud, MichaÅ‚ Karaszewicz-Tokarzewski, Johann Georg Elser, Erich Kordt, Erwin von Witzleben, Nikolaus von Halem, Hubert Lanz, Hans Speidel, Hyazinth Graf von Strachwitz, Henning von Tresckow, Fabian von Schlabrendorff, Friedrich Ké¶nig, Philipp von Boeselager, Rudolf Christoph Freiherr von Gersdorff, Axel Freiherr von dem Bussche-Streithorst, Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist-Schmenzin, Eberhard von Breitenbuch, with the last two attempts very late in the war being Claus von Stauffenberg
some tried several times… and there was more than one attempt every year he was in power…
Hitler was fanatical about this as he knew the pain of change would cause such issues, and he employed some really complicated methods and was careful that these could not easily be seen in the films (if you dont know what to look for).
both hitler AND stalin employed the use of body doubles as well. if you see pictures of Stalin and its not pock marked its his double… (some were better looking).
if you do some research you would find out that they were VERY careful, and had a very tight ring around things that you rarely if ever saw. the idea was never to let the public see this as that would clue them in that others felt like they did… like dialoging to consensus the films reflect an imagery that the left here uses but is not real in that it shows open air, and waving, and so on…
more common was to oppose things anywhere and everywhere possible. from ‘dropping’ a nut or bolt into an engine, or not removing a part so that a bomb would be a dud… it wasnt that the bomb design was bad, it was that many people making them didnt want to be making them.
unless you have lived under it you have no idea how compelling such brutality is like… mostly because you have no idea what its like when such is sanctioned and there will be no response in the negative for the person dishing it out – in fact, they would be in the right.
Eidelweisspiraten?
Hitler’s dictates make us small,
we’re yet bound in chains.
But one day we’ll again walk tall,
no chain can us restrain.
or hard are our fists,
Yes! And knives at our wrists,
for youth to be free,
Navajos lay siege.
Ehrenfelder Gruppe was hanged…
six of them teenagers
the Leipzig Meuten?
how about this small list? its the underground members we know about… many whom would have killed hitler or many of the leadership if they had the chance (and they did for many)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Germans_who_resisted_Nazism
your a very insulting fellow as your so sure of things you dont know your willing to prosecute without study…
White Rose
The six most recognized members of the German resistance group were arrested by the Gestapo, tried for treason and beheaded in 1943.
Today, the members of the White Rose are honoured in Germany amongst its greatest heroes, since they opposed the Third Reich in the face of almost certain death.
“Dwell on this, that we’re dying for a better future, for a life without man’s hatred for man.” Groscurth to his wife…he was part of the european union… over 40 were caught and ended up dead.
and would you believe that Swing Kids were REAL?
On 18 August 1941, in a brutal police operation, over 300 Swingjugend were arrested. The measures against them ranged from cutting their hair and sending them back to school under close monitoring, to the deportation of the leaders to concentration camps.
resistance was actually quite large and ranged from non compliance to actual attempts on Hitlers life, to passive aggressive sabotage – like being harried by invisible demons.
the problem was that sometimes the punishments were quite severe in American terms. like executing every member of a whole city leaving no one alive.
you probably would not remember Lidice or learn about it..
On June 10, 1942, the German government announced that it had destroyed the small village of Lidice, Czechoslovakia, killing every adult male and some fifty-two women. All surviving women and children were then deported to concentration camps, or if found suitable to be “Germanized”, sent to the greater Reich. The Nazi’s then proudly proclaimed that the village of Lidice, it’s residents, and its very name, were now forever blotted from memory.
The Germans raided 5,000 towns and villages arresting some 3,180 people, 1,344 were sentenced to be executed. This number however was far to small for Adolf Hitler who ordered severe reprisals threatening to kill 30,000 Czechs.
responses were quite disproportionate, and if you cared about your fellow man you would not want to be the person that did something and then found out they erased some town for it. in the movies they back down, in real life they dont.

I’ll recommend this book again: It Didn’t Start with Watergate, by Victor Lasky.
Here’s a snippet:
“The first two-thirds of the book chronicle the activities of the presidencies of FDR, JFK and LBJ.
These presidents had the FBI investigate their enemies, had wiretaps on competitors, covered up serious crimes, took kickbacks, and used the IRS as a weapon against basically anyone they didn’t like.
After the first two-thirds of the book you basically assume that they are capable of anything short of murder or rape.
Lasky also makes it clear that many of the reporters who went after Nixon knew of, or were directly involved in perpetrating, these activities on behalf of these earlier presidents.
For example, Bill Moyers:
So, according to Moyers, it was bad when Nixon did this stuff but it was fine when he did it.”
http://foseti.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/review-of-it-didnt-start-with-watergate-by-victor-lasky/
You can buy the Lasky book through Neo’s Amazon linky.
It’s worth every cent: the list of crimes and outrageous abuses of power committed against domestic political opponents by FDR, e.g., is staggering. Ditto JFK and Johnson.
Lasky also makes it clear that the federal agencies and bureaucracies were ALL operating as extensions of the Party of Government (surprise, surprise, surprise!); therefore, they do not, nor have they for the last 90 years, cooperate or work at the behest of any of the Republican presidents.
Here’s a quote about Watergate:
“The last third of the book deals with Watergate itself. Here, Lasky’s thesis is given best by another quote he finds from an anonymous Congressman:
And so they did. Despite the fact that, “as it turned out, the one person who had absolutely no advance knowledge of the Watergate break-in was Richard M. Nixon.”
Much of the common historical knowledge of Watergate is also incorrect. For example, the story was not uncovered by great investigative journalism, but was largely uncovered because of leaky federal bureaucracies — basically in open war with Nixon (also furthering the argument for our thesis on The New Deal).
But then, the whole thing wasn’t about Nixon’s crimes — if they really cared about those, they’d have to indict every President since FDR — it was about power. A new group finally had an unbreakable grip on it and they were having fun demonstrating just how unbreakable their grip was.”
I like Roger Simon very much. That said, I entirely agree with you, N-Neo. They KNOW NO SHAME. That happens to make the MSM-Press Lapdogs far more loathsome than had they some sense of embarrassment over their 5 and a half years of slathering the Boy King with saliva up his scrawny backside. It also explains the Democrats in congress—ALL of them—their moral cowardice and testicular concavities. They’ve never had a hostile, inquisitive MSM to deal with on His Infantile Shipwreck Majesty.
therefore, they do not, nor have they for the last 90 years, cooperate or work at the behest of any of the Republican presidents.
The Democrat corruption started a few years before 1860, culturally speaking. So the timeline fits.
For all the talk of how millennials are “special snowflakes,” it didn’t start with them, either. The institutional culture of narcissism started with the pampered Boomers that now run the NYT.
They were the ones who started teaching “self-esteem” in schools to the millennials.
They love themselves as a way of life, they are the center of the universe. So no, they don’t feel any shame over Obama…they barely understand the concept of shame; and then, only theoretically, as something rubes in flyover country feel. Like that whole “God” thing.
Right-thinking people seem to have a fixation on the criminal showing remorse. Maybe it’s the legacy of Judeo-Christian values, and the idea of forgiveness.
Liberal narcissists at the NYT and elsewhere are beyond the pale. There will be no redemption for them here, so we need to resign ourselves to that.
Quit looking for remorse, and instead focus on removing all influence and power from them. They’ve earned it.
Matt…
You’re describing the Silent Generation.
Even now, the critical positions in Congress are dominated by Silent Generation pols.
It’s a TOTAL mistake to think that the Boomers have been calling the shots.
Then I’ll give myself half-credit for only being off by one generation! 🙂
