Give me your tired, your poor, your unaccompanied children
While we were busy talking about plenty of other things (whack-a-mole, anyone?), the illegal immigration situation in this country seem to have gone from dreadful to utter chaos, with no end in sight.
This is absolutely disturbing on so many levels it’s hard to process. Also, as a side issue, are Jan Brewer and Arizona being punished by the Obama administration?:
Hundreds of migrants nabbed by the border patrol after illegally crossing the US-Mexico border through Texas have been flown to Arizona and left at Greyhound Bus stations in Tucson and Phoenix during the past month…Critics charge that released border-crossers will vanish into the woodwork. Immigrant advocates accuse the federal government of releasing migrants without providing enough basic necessities such as food and water on days that hover around 100 degrees F.
Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) calls it “another disturbing example of a deliberate failure to enforce border security policies and repair a broken immigration system” in a letter to President Obama.
Yeah, a letter! That’ll do it. Although to be honest, I don’t know what the remedy would be. Even impeachment wouldn’t do it at this point, because fixing this would require that both parties be dedicated to tightening both border security and lessening the cornucopia of services available to illegal immigrants, which would require some harsh and extremely difficult decisions that I don’t think our politicians are up to.
Meanwhile, things have been getting worse. In the last couple of weeks or so I had read a couple of articles about how more children have been crossing the border alone. The articles explained that they are fleeing political and social turmoil in their countries of birth, but none that I read managed to point out the obvious, which is that people are sending children here because they perceive them as being less likely to be deported than in the past, and if the parents follow, they too will be unlikely to be deported because of policies that favor family unification (here’s a typical article of this type, from the NY Times of May 17). The Christian Science Monitor article I linked to at the beginning of this post was the first one I had seen that alludes to the Obama administration’s policies as at least a partial explanation of what’s been happening.
The CS Monitor offers more background here on why the number of illegal child immigrants has increased in the last two years:
At issue is Mr. Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), which in 2012 allowed some undocumented immigrants who came to America as minors to defer deportation for two years. Last week, the administration announced guidelines for how these immigrants could defer deportation for a further two years.
DACA would not apply to anyone coming across the border today. Only undocumented immigrants who were brought to the US as minors before June 15, 2007, are eligible. But to Republican critics, DACA created the opportunity for misinformation and confusion.
“Word has gotten out around the world about President Obama’s lax immigration enforcement policies and it has encouraged more individuals to come to the United States illegally,” said Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R) of Virginia, a key broker in immigration reform efforts on Capitol Hill, in a statement last week…
During the decade preceding fiscal year 2012, the federal government agency tasked with caring for unaccompanied minors who cross the border illegally dealt with an average of 7,000 to 8,000 cases a year, according to a Department of Health and Human Services fact sheet. In fiscal year 2011, the number was 6,560.
The following year, however, the number jumped to 13,625. This fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30, 2014, federal officials are estimating that the number could be 80,000, according to an internal memo cited by The New York Times.
Obama called the situation a “humanitarian crisis” Monday. Poverty and violence are driving the migration, administration officials say, and activists working with migrants agree. But some also suggest that DACA could be a factor.
Ya think?
That article goes on to say that Obama is being pressured by his base to stop deportations of illegals altogether. As a pro-immigrant San Francisco crowd yelled to him last November: “”Stop deportations! Yes we can!” And why not? Obama makes the laws and he also breaks the laws at his pleasure, so the crowd was well within its rights to think Obama could and would do it. Obama needs his base (which includes Hispanics/Latinos) to come out in force for Democrats in 2014 or he could lose the Senate, so his motivation to please them is very strong (although he was already motivated to allow as many illegal immigrants—and potential Democratic voters—as possible to come into this country). It’s no accident, either, that Obama announced DACA in 2012, a presidential election year.
The CS Monitor seems to be the mainstream paper covering these issues in the most depth. Here’s another article from them about it, which mentions the fact that most of the children coming across the border alone are boys over twelve.
One small ray of sunshine in an otherwise very gloomy situation is that the increasing phenomenon of child illegal immigrants might help convince people that the border is nowhere near as secure as Obama says it is. In turn, this could discourage Republicans in Congress from caving on immigration/amnesty. As Jan Brewer said, ““If the Obama administration put half the effort into securing our border as it has invested to institute this operation, our state and nation would not be facing this situation.”
More:
Nora Griselda Bercian Diaz, a mother from Guatemala who crossed into the U.S. illegally with her 6-year-old daughter, told local media outlet KRGV that the message being spread in her home country is, “Go to America with your child, you won’t be turned away.”
Bercian Diaz said she thought the U.S. border was open to all families. She added that news reports are circulating in her country which state that mothers and children are obtaining bus tickets.
And once they come they need not only food and water and housing, but they need lawyers to fight deportation. So here’s some money for the lawyers.
Obama’s reaction to all of this is to ask for even more money to help the illegal immigrants once they’re here. And there is little question that their plight is indeed very troubling and pathetic at this point, because the numbers have overwhelmed whatever system was already in place. But the truth is that incentivizing a behavior increases it, and this is what Obama has been doing right along. His response to this new crisis is to incentivize the behavior even more.
[NOTE: I agree with this article, but I do not agree that Democrats were unaware of the incentivizing effect of amnesty. They are well aware, and for them it’s a feature rather than a bug.]
And the full frontal assault on the American taxpayer picks up the pace. At a time of high unemployment and underemployment with no relief in sight, this rogue administration thinks we need to pay for everyone who can stampede across our southern border. Many of us already have lost household income due to one or both spouses being out of work or drastically underemployed just to get work. We already are footing the bill for the half of the country who thinks we owe them a living. Now they want to open the floodgates to make us pay for everyone else.
If we protest, we are called names.
It’s very simple. This administration is either the most ideologically blind in the history of government, or it simply wants to destroy most of its citizens.
Unfortunately I see very little we can do at this point. Obama has shown complete contempt for the law. And as I see it there really is nothing that can be done.
Obama has control of his branch of government and all the bureaucracies that run the day to day operations. Which means that he/they can break the law with impunity and Holder will simply fail to prosecute anyone.
Now in theory there are remedies for when a branch of government goes rogue.
Congress may yell and scream about something they dislike to their constituents. But neither party has the guts to cut the purse strings. And at this point I doubt it would do much good. Obama has already shown he will funnel money from congress approved spending to areas that he prefers. So unless you cut funding entirely you will get now where. Plus there are enough loyal Dems to run interference with this scheme.
And the Supreme Court has repeatedly ruled that no one seems to have standing to actually sue to stop such things anymore. That is unless your from the left and then there always seems to be some loophole to exploit.
I have spent most of my life thinking those on the right who live off the grid and were constantly prepping for the apocalypse where a bit nuts.
But now? With the way the government has acted it is not in the realm of fiction anymore.
Congress show pass a law that all these kids be flown back to Mexico City on Air Force One with Michelle and Barry, but not Valerie, acting as child minders for the flights. Mexico should be urged to prosecute the parents for child neglect, and the whole thing should get 24/7 news coverage.
We are seeing first hand of what O meant when he said … “after the election I’ll have more flexibility.”
Translates into after the election …
I AM THE LAW!
I’m NOT part of the government …
I AM THE GOVERNMENT!
What will become of these young children that are now without parents in an alien land and almost certainly without required language skills? Will they be warehoused by the state? And what pathologies can we expect to see as a result?
We are witnessing evil on a level approaching the Nazis.
kaba: Well plus I am guessing that we ain’t seen nuthin’ yet. No, we ain’t seen nuthin’ yet.
expat:
The majority of them don’t seem to be from Mexico. They pass through Mexico, but they are mostly from other parts of Central America.
It’s a mess. What should we do, have official displaced persons camps?
The border absolutely must be secured, but Obama is working against that, and Congress is either uninterested or seemingly impotent in the matter.
While we were busy talking about plenty of other things (whack-a-mole, anyone?)…
nope…just the inability to tell apart the distractions from the things that have meaning and so, elevated distractions… even if someone tries to point it out… or mention something… the distraction comes first… as it appears more interesting and all that…
which is why i said people dont want to know the thing, as they refuse to sort between what is worth focusing on and what isnt… (shall i quote tsun tsu, and others AGAIN?)
how could you not see this chess move?
ie. if you allow pawns to move far along the board towards the other side, dont be surprised if the opposition starts throwing pawns your way as they want many queens
the left will never believe… even eli weizel didnt believe until he loaded his own family member into a truck…
they cant stop the conspiracy, as they wont believe there is one until there is no way to excuse it. this goes all the way back to the principals i explained to you from huxley and onwards..
ie. the huxleys will prevent any and every means of stopping it
even noam chomsky is worried, but so smart he cant tell that he was a majory reason why the thing he is worred about exists…
phds are well trained to consider their personal wacky thoughts as erudition as if a degree raises every purile point to award winning socrates discourse.
what they miss is that they cant do anythi8ng. i know, as i work with them, and its my job to give them the skills they need to doo something. they are quite fullof themselves and very incompetent compared to engineers… they are also well versed into taking credit for the teams work that made their ideas workable, without giveng any credit, and mostly terrorizing them like a two year old with an ak47 and no regard
heck… as far as i can tell you guys cant even give an outlinke of what is going on… and how it leads to the next tep in the progression…
you have yet to work out the progression..
and they are amostfinished.
once they finish, then something made up witll take up the space where an explanation is required.
since short fun and cool is in, as this is not about actually learning anyting, its pretty easy to see how a whole lot of it your misising.
and the most imporant stuff as that has been wrapped up so you dont want to loo at it, and wont fight your psyuchology, or, without knowing where if fits with lots of other pieces… you toss the unneeded part to the sidze as xtra puzzle pieces… or parts after a repair that obviously where there for no reason.
you wont understand it unless you break it down to each front and understand how many people are working on this. during the cold war ,there were ony about 20,000 operatives in the US… its estmated that there are over a million some of them third generation family members.
and you havent gotten past fool and knave!!!!
its funny!!!!!
the differnec between peole stuck inside the “cube” or people watchign them.. note that those who had some idea of outside loooking in had an idea what was going on, those who didnt, had no idea and died the fastest.. same with hypecube.
without metadata you cant solve the problem…
there is not enough information provided inside the problem and the principals, techniquies, and practices are not instinctual, and ahve to b learned.
at best. your in a cage and you cant even tell if there is a door. all you think is what you believe, and half of that is from movies!!! like saving graces or cavalry or such… which keeps one from actually realizing the seriousnes sof it.
think to WWII and hitler… very few realized the seriousness of it and how far it woudl go. they acted on belief, not facts.. they told each other stroreies that soothed their desire to run, which to their modern minds seems so extreme and desperate… they wrapthemselves in variosu excuses and ideas.
and in the end..
they wait for the end.
maybe commenting along the way with other ignrants.
if they survive… and they pass on the information, they know that no one will listen to it, from their children… even their children know… but they have to try anyway.
what wouldyou say to a future person so that they would not fall for an obama again?
nothing… because right now, we are pretending we didnt fall for a hitler again, or a mao, or tito, or what not..
the victims desire to be victims more than escape.
its what you learn from the experienced.
I say turn them loose in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, LA, Denver, Minneapolis, Chicago, NYC, Boston, and DC. Let the bleeding hearts house, feed, wipe their behinds of color, and clean up the carnage once they begin to run with Latino gangs. The leftists favor lawlessness so they deserve to witness their agenda up close and personal.
This is cruelty to children for the sake of advancing the political establishment, here and in other countries. The American taxpayer, the hard working men and women of America, will pay for these poor children thus taking the pressure off their own home countries to do right by them and profitting the American political establishment with votes and its cronies with cheap labor. Shame on the Obama Administration, its accessories in the media, the RINO amnesty fools and anyone who pretends that the ends justify the means. This is child abuse and exploitation and it must stop.

That first sentence of mine was something of a mild joke. Actually, I’ve talked about illegal immigration (and Obama’s plans) many times before on this blog, for example, as have plenty of other people in the comments section. People don’t have to talk about a topic every day to be concerned about it—and that includes many of the topics you emphasize and think others disagree you with about when in fact many of them agree.
You continue to misunderstand this, over and over. I don’t know why.
I would wager that everyone here “saw this chess move” when Obama has consistently refused to enforce border security and relaxed the rules for illegals. Why do you think most conservatives (probably ALL conservatives) are against the Dream Act? Not all Republicans, but all conservatives. Everyone is so aware of it that it’s been talked into the ground. The only relatively new news is how overwhelming the numbers have become with unaccompanied children coming over in the last two years or so.
Here’s what you get, for example, when you do a search on just this blog for “immigra.” And in fact, even the other day there was another post about what’s been happening in Britain and relating it to here. It’s been clear to everyone on the right for a long time what Obama and the Democrats have been doing; no need to talk about it every day to know it.
There is no need to harangue people for not appreciating or being interested in or accepting the truth of topics they actually do appreciate and are interested in and accept the truth of. I request once again that you stick to whatever facts you want to impart without the haranguing.
By the way, since we’re not a collective here, there are people who comment on this blog who might disagree with others about the seriousness of what’s happening. No doubt there are even a few who would answer “fool rather than knave” to the “fool or knave?” question for Obama. But very very few.
Ahhh, the Serenity to accept the things we cannot change. We cannot change them except as a people. We can work to get out the word, but that is all. I’m not going to take a bullet all by my lonesome. People have survived very nicely in Argentina, some of them anyway, and if the USA is intent on becoming an Argentina, who am I to say, “No. Stop. You’ve got it all, why piss it away”?
But: The global effects of a cratering USA will last for a couple of centuries, anyway.
parker, we already have that. (San Francisco, checking in.) MS-13 gang member shot and killed a father and two of his sons (the other son was injured but survived and identified the killers). The Bologna family suffered a tragic loss because San Francisco is a “sanctuary” city, thanks to then mayor/now lt gov Gavin Newsom. The survivors sued the City of SF for its policy which led directly to the deaths of the rest of the family. The federal judge ruled that the city cannot be liable for any crimes that Edwin Ramos committed post-release because the city had no information that Ramos posed a specific threat to the Bolognas and that the sanctuary city policy was intended “to improve immigration controls” rather than prevent crime. Also, it’s NOT just the blue staters (and the reds who have to live among them) paying for this.
This is consistent with a Cloward-Piven strategy to overload the system to allow a complete socialist makeover.
raf:
Yes, that occurred to me, and I’ve seen it mentioned on other sites as well.
The Democrats lost a significant amount of their electoral power when Southerners shook off the Democrat shackle. Democrats regained some of it with their slavery of blacks. Now they are looking for third class citizens to fill in the blanks.
But as President Obama ushers in the end of what he called America’s “long season of war,” the former tools of combat – M-16 rifles, grenade launchers, silencers and more – are ending up in local police departments, often with little public notice.
During the Obama administration, according to Pentagon data, police departments have received tens of thousands of machine guns; nearly 200,000 ammunition magazines; thousands of pieces of camouflage and night-vision equipment; and hundreds of silencers, armored cars and aircraft.
neo-neocon,
Point taken.
look beyond the single thing though, not isolate the parts. in isolation position is irrelevant, conjunctions meaningless. the points don’t exist that way, and we didn’t always look at the world as if someone dissected it first. You cant understand kasperov, laskey or spassky if your not allowed to consider very different pieces that without the game would not seem to go together.
what part is this playing? yeah, its awful, etc… get used to it when your dealing with people who would act without limits that make you judge and say awful.
its like dating or living with a wacko. they will escalate beyond the limit of a normal person, which usually would halt before jail time, death, large amount of damage, bodily harm, etc… you will look at an event and say, a ha, the attention will be this or that and so on… then wacko throws a curve, and makes sure you rubberneck by crossing the line.
sure looks like he is establishing his powers. showing that he has them, doesn’t have to ask for them, and that we do not stop it. we forget that assuming the behavior is most of the battle. law backed this up, not this was backed up by law that had already been negated.
ever think of what assume in the context of powers means? how would you test it? establish it, and the boundary that has to constantly expand?
“according to Pentagon data, police departments have received tens of thousands of machine guns; nearly 200,000 ammunition magazines; thousands of pieces of camouflage and night-vision equipment; and hundreds of silencers, armored cars and aircraft.”
The only preplanning that I can think of to counter this effort to militarize LEOs is to make sure you know who they are, the members of their families, and where they live. This is happening in small towns in Iowa with very little push back from citizens.
The Des Moines Register: http://tinyurl.com/mswjt3d
The absolute worst thing GWB did was to create the Department of Homeland Security. DHS is the orchestrator of this trend.
The worst part of this is that it isn’t only Obama’s doing. Both parties are complicit in the deliberate destruction of American sovereignty, as are the multinational corporations and their mouthpiece, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
After 9/11, President Bush had a golden opportunity to seal the border in the name of national security. He probably would have had the support of 90% of the American public. He didn’t do it because he didn’t want to do it. Like most of our political class, he was an open-borders internationalist. I remember reading at the time that he gave assurances to the Mexican president that he wouldn’t do anything that would affect cross-border traffic.
I cannot come to any other conclusion that our national, cultural, and racial bonds are being deliberately dissolved in order to pave the way for World Government. The same process is also well under way in Europe.
This is the greatest act of treason in the history of the world, and I only hope that those responsible will be made to pay the ultimate price.
Rickl makes an alarming point. Even though Progressives and U.S. Chamber of Commerce are at great odds about almost everything, they are both pushing the US in this disastrous direction. That makes the MSM especially reluctant to give this proper and balanced attention. Brenda Walker at http://www.limitstogrowth.org focuses on the immigration battle with her strong resistance to overwhelming immigration.
I am a resident of Arizona, and like da Chipster, I’m due to soon become a Republican committeeman (I hope the similarities end there). In a recent meeting, I heard an interesting thing:
The feds control the main checkpoint on our side of the U.S./Mexican border. They’ve been delaying traffic there for hours so that commercial traffic has started to divert to neighboring states in order to quickly get across.
In addition, Obama recently declared a stretch of U.S. property that borders Mexico as a national park/monument (The Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks in New Mexico); border patrols are severely restricted in this new zone.
If true, that would answer your question of whether Obama was deliberately punishing Arizona.
My opinion of Jan Brewer is very similar to my opinion of John Kasich, if that tells you anything. RINO, all the way. She won’t do what’s necessary to stop this, if she even has the desire.
I’ve said it before: this will only end by civil disobedience. Brewer, or her replacement, should simply call out the Arizona national guard to enforce the border, then dare Obama to do anything about it.
When he calls her lawless, throw the accusation back in his face.
Or better yet, round up all the recent illegals and bus them to Washington D.C.
‘World government’ will never come to pass, or if it does, it will be short lived. In a totalitarian world order there can be only one supreme leader. The financial and political elitists around the globe would soon fall upon one another just as muslims would if their desire to bring the entire globe under the caliphate should come to pass.
This whole set-up provides Mexican criminal syndicates with a bounteous supply of fresh teen virgins to enslave.
Thousands of dull, uneducated, non-English speaking aliens — in their teens… what could go wrong?

I agree. The federal government is utterly lawless and hence illegitimate. The states need to start enforcing their own laws and daring the Feds to do something about it.
And then arrest Federal agents when they try.
When’s the coronation?
DHS is where the funding and federal grants are coming from, but the initiative was started by police unions.
