I’m watching the Oscars tonight…
…even though I don’t care.
I don’t care who wins. The only nominated flick I’ve seen this year is “Gravity,” and I thought it fair-to-middling.
And did I mention that I don’t care? I’m watching for one reason only, the reason I always watch: to see the clothes. Specifically, the women’s clothes, although Kevin Spacey looked particularly fine in his dark blue tux.
If anyone else is watching, I have thoughtfully provided this thread for you to discuss all the pressing issues associated with the Oscars. Including why you care or don’t care or semi-care.
UPDATE: Kim Novak is scaring me. Really scaring me. She’s unrecognizable from cosmetic surgery and Botox. She’s announcing the award for animated shorts, but her own lack of animation is profound. Granted, she’s 81, and as someone wrote on Twitter, “I can see why she’s have a hard time letting go of [her original] face.” But surely there’s some way she might have aged more gracefully.

My wife recorded Kim Novak so I could see her (I was out at daughter’s mucking). What a shame.
I am a great admirer of women who just age gracefully, and dress and make up stylishly.
Speaking of watching the Oscars for the dresses; doesn’t Ellen look so cute dressed like a little boy? Oh, is that homophobic?
I’m not watching. I don’t care. I never have cared about any of the entertainment industry award shows, or the awards themselves. A couple of years ago I mentioned in conversation that I didn’t understand why anyone watched the Oscars. One friend, somewhat offended, said “Because I love movies.” I didn’t want to offend her further, so I didn’t voice my next thought: “So do I, but the Oscars don’t have much connection with the movies I like.”
So much of women’s clothing at these affairs is gag-me-with-a spoon tasteless.
But there are exceptions;

Classic with a twist
Simply stunning
The ever unique & exquisite taste of Cate Blanchett
And my personal favorite, Greco-Roman will never go out of fashion
I’m not watching either, since I cancelled my cable TV. (The only time I’ve missed it was during the baseball playoffs and World Series.)
Likewise, Gravity was the only movie I saw in the past year. I liked it, and I hope Alfonso Cuaré³n wins for Best Director. That’s all I care about. I don’t expect it to win Best Picture.
Cuaré³n has already won the Golden Globe and some British award, so I’m rooting for a hat trick.
I never watch the Oscars. I don’t care about the bowling trophies Hollywood rewards itself with.
I also don’t care what anybody’s wearing since I’m a guy.
So far, Gravity has won four:
Visual Effects
Sound Editing
Cinematography
Film Editing
Excellent, and well-deserved. I expected it to clean up in the technical awards.
(I’m getting that from another website I have open.)
Sound Mixing, too, but lost Production Design.

Never watched the Oscars or any other “awards” show. I’ve never cared for the “elites” as they give each other fake kudos, stab each other in the back, and trash middle America all while claiming to be our superiors as the lecture us with their PC crap.
Ellen is funny; but even she cannot make the “show” worth watching.
Best Director! WHOO!!!
Loss for Best Actress. Would have been nice, but I’m not surprised.

Still, seven Academy Awards is pretty darn good. The technical awards and Best Director were what I was expecting, and hoping for.

Bwahaha. That’s pretty much my take on the event.
Come to think of it, a bowling trophy has more integrity than the Oscars because you actually have to win a contest. The Oscars are more akin to athletic “competitions” like figure skating, gymnastics and diving that are judged and hence inherently political. Oops, forgot synchronized swimming.
Matthew McConnaughey gave a nice, and surprising, acceptance speech, I heard. Gave the credit to God, and talked about humility and hard work.
I understand that the top prize goes to:

The last reels haven’t even been exposed yet.

One of the experiments I’m working on is an anti Left propaganda training method that uses foreign language and culture to replace English speaking vulnerability holes.
So thus, more Japanese entertainment needs to be consumed.
But it’s never enough to translate it into English, one must understand and think in the language. Only in that fashion can the LEft’s propaganda, which requires English to work, become circumvented.
Most people act differently around their parents and family, than their friends made in the later course of life or in public. That’s due to conditioning, partially because the language they learned while young inhibits and controls their behavior and thoughts. By replacing their original thought process with a new language and culture, remaking themselves via internal tinkering, allows the whole of their personality to be modified or replaced.
While the Left has historically used guillible security holes and force/fear to remake people via brainwashing, the same thing can be done via a human’s will so long as the human is changing oneself.
Chomsky developed some weaponized brainwashing propaganda for the Left in the form of linguistics. That presupposes a base language to work from.
It’s easy for people to assume the Left understands human reason and language, because it looks like they speak English and we speak English. But if one partitions that language off and only uses another, to consider the Left, a more objective frame of reference can be achieved. Anti brainwashing mechanisms can be placed into effect that is more workable and sustainable than the mind’s natural defense of catatonia or withdrawal or repression.
If McConnaughey ever gets tired of being an actor, he’d make a world-class motivational speaker. I saw his acceptance speech at the SAG awards and it was even more inspirational and well-delivered than his speech last night.

I would like to point out that Matthew McConnaughey is a Texan, through and through. He was raised in Texas, got a degree from UT at Austin, and now lives in Austin.
It’s no wonder his acceptance speech was good. 🙂

As I’ve said countless times before, I write about a lot of things on this blog. Some are trivial or just fun. Life consists of all sorts of things: serious and less serious. I write about what interests me, and sometimes what amuses or entertains me.
That’s the way it is and the way I plan it to continue.
Let the show go on. Wake me up when the Z Apoc comes though. It’ll get interesting then.

I’ve actually seen “Captain Philips” and enjoyed it a lot. The Somali who was nominated for best supporting actor did a fine job. Too bad more people didn’t like that movie. Too much violence, I guess.
I never care who wins what. It’s a big deal for Hollyweird, though. Gives a view into how deeply shallow they are.

I usually watch just the red carpet, to see the evening gowns. I watched the whole award show itself this time, because my Internet was messing up and I suddenly had the desire to see the clips they show of the movies and acting. I wanted to see why Those In The Know–I know people in The Industry–were saying it would be Blanchett and McConnaughey, and I DID see it.
I was surprised because the dresses were mostly gorgeous this year. What happened?? I haven’t seen so many beautiful dresses in years. I loved them! I also enjoyed the way the men looked this year.
(Yes, Artful, I know a lot is going on in the world, and I always read your entire comment and learn from it, but you have to feed your heart as well as your mind.)
I loved that some of the winners thanked their mothers, and that the winner Jared Leto did so and also mentioned Venezuela and Ukraine, because people who talk about Ukraine usually don’t mention Venezuela.
I haven’t seen any of the movies, and probably won’t, but I am amazed at the clip they showed of Leto as the almost skeletal “woman”.
And I loved, absolutely loved seeing Benedict Cumberbatch on stage with the others in the cast of the winning movie, looking around like a little kid at a toy-and-candy store. (I’ve watched him with appreciation for years, and his Sherlock is brilliant! If they’re smart, they’ll make him the next Dr. Who after Capaldi. Yes I know this is Off Topic, but I’ve watched Dr. Who for 50 years and This Is Important.)
I think that Ellen was funny all the way through, and original, McConnaughey’s acceptance speech was worth seeing–and took guts, in front of that crowd–and it was interesting to hear his “chase” idea. And I didn’t hear Kim Novak’s name so I kept looking at the woman and wondering who she was. You’re right, Neo–it scares me, and finding out that that person was Novak makes me inexpressively sad.
And at last I figured out who Angelina Jolie reminds me of when she is herself and not a character–Loretta Young. Elegant and feminine. Like in the Bishop’s Wife.

I have boycotted the Oscars since 1979 when they gave best picture to Kramer vs Kramer, which was nothing but a glorified TV movie, and not Apocalypse Now, which is a masterpiece. Yes, I do tend to hold a grudge.
