RIP Harold Ramis
Funny, funny guy Harold Ramis has died at 69.
I wasn’t a big “Ghostbusters” or “Caddyshack” fan. So sue me. But I’m one of the biggest “Groundhog Day” fans in the world. If Ramis had only helped to provide the world with that one movie I’d be intensely grateful. But he was prolific in directing, writing, and acting in a long string of films that gave extraordinary pleasure to so many people. Let’s include “Animal House,” of course.
Here’s a New Yorker profile from a few years ago.
And although this interview unfortunately can’t embedded, if you click on it and watch, you’ll get an idea of Ramis’ personality as well as some of his thoughts on “Groundhog Day.”
RIP.
RIP, Harold. You will be missed.
I think I saw Stripes 17 times, back in the day. One of my favorite movies…
People will be watching Groundhog Day for years to come. RIP HR.
Ramis died “of complications from autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis”. One sees this bizarre attribution with increasing frequency: People are said to be dying more and more of “complications” of normally fatal diseases. What “complications” exactly are never stated.
Reminds me of when I was very young in medicine. I filled out death certificates with cause of death being “Cardiorespiratory Arrest”, then line 2, due to….Pneumonia or Myocardial infarction or Whatever. I stopped doing that when I realized that everyone dies when heart and repiration cease, and signing everyone dead out that way was not helping public health data. Today more and more people are dying of “Complications”….Same thing.
Perhaps one day you and I and everyone else will die under Obamacare of “Complications”.
I loved Animal House and Ghostbusters. They were both classic comedies, and eminently quotable.
And SCTV was funnier than SNL ever was.
I was shocked to hear that he had passed and even more shocked at how sad it made me.
I loved all of his movies, but ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Groundhog Day’ were my favorites.
May he rest in peace.
And don’t cross the streams.
I hope someday to die due to complications occurring during erotic activities with a woman. This would be nasty for her, of course, except that I hope she dies from complications occurring during erotic activities with a man… that would be me….
If you’re gonna go, it would be good to go out not just with a bang, with a complicated bang.
People tend to remember stuff like that. 😀
I like Ramis from his time on the `Second City’ programme.
However, I never liked `Ghostbusters’ myself (I’ve never seen `Caddyshack’).
