I’m shocked, shocked!
Now let me get this story straight: Mother Jones has reported the contents of a clandestine tape made of a private meeting between Mitch McConnell and a few aides, who were planning to use Ashley Judd’s somewhat sketchy mental health history (which she herself had previously discussed in a memoir) and her actual stated views on a number of subjects (including religion) against her if she ran for office.
What an outrage!
The closest thing to an outrage I can find in this story is that, if one looks at the comments section, one can only conclude that many of the same liberals who were angry at Nixon for the dirty tricks of Watergate have no trouble whatsoever with the bugging of McConnell. Au contraire.
McConnell has requested an FBI investigation of who was responsible. My prediction is that nothing much will come of it.
Moe Lane summed it up this morning as: “Shorn of its finger waggling, the article indicates that Mitch McConnell was looking forward to running against somebody who: has really strange opinions on coal, parenting, and American society; a history of mental depression and frankly mildly erratic behavior; and had made somewhat demeaning cracks about the state that she wanted to run in. “
You will note the author of the story, David Corn, and will recall his nonchalant dishonesty during l’affaire Plame.
By the way, in case my reference to David Corn’s character and his history of contemptible smarminess and conscienceless innuendo doesn’t immediately resonate, this page is still up. If you have the stomach for it.

I still shock easily. I am not hardened. I am defeated and disappointed. A wretched place to be in the twilight of my life.
Bet these same shocked Lefties thought it was OK to analyze Sara Palin’s pregnancy (Trig’s), her older daughter’s pregnancy, and thousands of email communications (even after she left office), because she’s a public figure.
Mother jones, too funny Hubby and subscribed to that absurd rag back in the 70s, lol
One should look into the record of the person who used illegal search warrants that got Ayers immunity from terrorist prosecution and how that tied in with the overall function and ethics of the FBI at the time.
These spy like functions were spread across a wide time frame in American history. Nixon’s primary problem was that he didn’t act on his enemies list and perhaps trusted too many of the wrong people in the FBI to get things done legally.
Wouldn’t it be ironic if his licensed or unlicensed actions were found out because the FBI themselves were the experts on these internal espionage acts.
Who did it benefit, I wonder, in the end.
