So, did you watch the inauguration? — 46 Comments

  1. Why bother watching TFG? You hear one Owebama diatribe speech, you’ve heard ’em all.

The only thing I’ve heard is that this was one of the most divisive, if not the most divisive, inauguration speeches ever uttered. Now why am I not shocked? If anyone expected any less of race-baiting class warfare Barry, then they haven’t been paying attention.

  2. As for that JFK inauguration I remember so well, it seems like another century. Hey, it was another century

In fact, it seemed like another millennium. Hey, it was another millennium.

  3. Those people are out to destroy the USA as you and I know and remember it. If it isn’t plain by now, it couldn’t ever be more so. So here’s where I’m going with this —

WHAT THE H#LL ARE BOEHNER AND CANTOR DOING OUT THERE IN THE INAUGURATION CEREMONY AUDIENCE * ???

It seems to me they should be conspicuously ABSENT, as in ^NOT. THERE.^ , to witness this arrogant (quasi-)fascist’s re-coronation. Why are Boehner and Cantor there as part of this legitimization exercise?

Can’t any of our guys do ^anything^ meaningful anymore, any time?? Are they ^that^ useless???

We should let them have their party, while minding our manners and not rain on their stupid parade, and when it’s over, show them all the respect and deference they deserve — NONE. And let the war begin (except our idiots don’t realize it’s an actual war).

    My ^goodness^.

    End of mini-rant.

    * Wife’s watching on tee vee, ’cause her cousin’s the band leader for the army Fife and Drum corps and they’re part of the festivities; I DID NOT watch until she hollered and told me Fred’s on tee vee. [Fred’s an incredibly super guy who is not one of the enemy.]

  4. neo,

I’m about as smart as a Pakled. Still makes me smarter than that shallow Fallows fellow.

As for that JFK inauguration I remember so well, it seems like another century. Hey, it was another century

In fact, it seemed like another millennium. Hey, it was another millennium.

In fact, it seemed like another Country. Hey, it was another Country. That president, JFK, had no love for commies. Now we have commies running the country.

Ask NOT what you can do for your Country, ask how many i-phones you can get from the Country. And welfare, Section 8 Housing, EBT cards, WIC, Medicaid and all the other Free Shyt Army crap.

  5. Ugh, can’t stand to listen to Obama anymore and he doesn’t say much that’s new anyway. Obama was over exposed within the first few months of his presidency – almost 4 years ago.
I’m also over the MSM’s obsession with Michelle Obama. I don’t care what she wears, her hair, her oft exposed arms, or what she advocates unless it requires taxpayer funding, such as her Healthy Eating in schools initiative. She’s only the “mom-in-chief” in her own mind. The rest of us manage just fine without her advice or the assistance of a personal chef, personal trainer, and live-in granny nanny (which she had long before being FLOTUS).

  6. Michelle’s outfit is really nice and I’m rarely impressed by anything she wears. But this one is a keeper. I like the hairdo too. Most of the time, I don’t see her as any sort of trendsetter and the amount of attention that gets paid to her fashion choices is ridiculous, but this time she hit the nail on the head so she gets my stamp of approval.

  7. Melissa,

I really don’t care what Mooch-elle wears or how she looks. She’s a commie married to a commie and is out to destroy the Country, singlehandledly if she has to what with her multiple luxurious taxpayer paid vacations. That’s all that matters to me.

The only stamp of approval I give Mooch-elle is a REJECTED stamp across her forehead. Because if she’s wearing a tramp stamp, I sure as hell don’t want to know.

  8. I’ve been at the office all day and haven’t seen or heard any news (other than via the blogoshere).

QUESTION: Did any of the talking heads say anything about the fact that Michelle Obama’s wig is obviously a carbon copy of Anna Wintour’s hairdo? Imitation is indeed the highest form of flattery; take a look at this image gallery and compare.

Bless both their hearts; am I being mean?

  9. carl in atlanta,

I’ve had basically that hairstyle since the sixties because it works best for my very thick fine-textured hair. Michelle needed a wig to look that way, and Anna would go bald if she thought it would win more clout in the fashion world.

I didn’t watch anything. It all has a very short expiration date, as we all know. Besides, I had snow to shovel.

  10. “Note the morning coat. That’s what it’s called isn’t it? You don’t see many of those these days.”

These are (the temporary I hope) days for mourning coats. 🙁

  11. expat:

Actually, I like that haircut on Michelle O much more than the one she’s had. It’s a classic 60’s look and my wife thinks it makes Michelle look”softer” kind of “kinder and gentler” .

It’s just that the emulation struck me as being pretty blatantly well, “copy-cattiish”, particulary in view of Anna’s deep involvement with the Obama campaign. Not to mention that creepy “Just don’t be late” ad, here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAlnKHctMYs

  12. I’m not an expert, but I don’t think that is MO’s real hair. I do agree that she does look attractive in the dress and hairdo. Too bad she didn’t end up as a backup singer in a 60’s all girl group. Too bad BHO is not today a pot dealer in Oahu.

  13. Maybe it’s just me, but her outfit didn’t really do anything for me. The hair looks kind of out of place, and to be honest (although this might just be because I’m this kind of guy), not that it’s that elegant or anything, but I think she looks best with just a ponytail.

This is an unflattering picture of her face because of the expression, but I like her hair here. But I’m a simple guy, and like simple styles.

As for the dress/coat… Not a fan. Like the boots, but the pink gloves seem awkward (even though I know she was going for what they call a “spice” color in the design world). The dress seems to be less form flattering than blatant form defiance. And I don’t mean her form, but form in general. The flare beyond the cinch is awkward, and the cinch is too high, as it is with all her belts. It’s better without it, but the flare is still there…

When did we decide that it was pretty to have your “waist” start above the navel? It seems like it’s a futuristic retro look, if that makes sense. Like retro in respect to the revival of the bustle, but with the “futuristic” twist of a bad 50s sci-fi show.

Sigh. I will never understand women’s fashion.

  14. Nyght: I can explain the high belt thing.

For women who have had children and are into middle age (such as the First Lady), even are they are not especially overweight, the natural waist has expanded compared to their youthful and pre-baby shape. However, the circumference under the bust doesn’t expand as much, and sometimes is actually smaller than the waist in a woman with that history. So emphasizing that measurement rather than the actual waist can sometimes be flattering. I think Michelle Obama way overdoes it, and especially wears too many of these belts and ones that are too strong a statement as well as too thick (although the one with the coat isn’t so very thick).

In addition, Michelle Obama has an unusual configuration of body in that, not only is her lower body heavier in proportion to her upper (that’s not the unusual part; that’s rather common in women), but she is quite short-waisted, especially for her height. Tall women are not usually so short-waisted, but she really is. (I am short-waisted too, but of average height). For short-waisted women, even when they wear a dress that fits, it can look as though the clothing is nipping in above their natural waist when in fact it is at their natural waist.

I said I am short-waisted. But I’m not as short-waisted as Michelle; she is really disproportionate. I do not think it’s easy for her to find really flattering clothes, despite her height, which works in her favor. Here’s an example of her wearing a fitted dress with a natural waist. See how short-waisted she is?

I believe the inaugural coat nips in at close to her natural waist. If you take a close look at the picture of the coat with the belt and compare it to the picture without, you may notice that the belt was set slightly higher, above her natural waist, compared to the waist of the coat.

  15. Nobody could have paid me to watch it.
Has everyone seen the video of her sneering and rolling her eyes at Boehner at lunch today? Classy.
Also, check out michellesmirror.com for Lady O fashion hits and misses.

  16. “When did we decide that it was pretty to have your “waist” start above the navel?”

My wife of 40+ years remains rather petite, but after 3 children and now in her very early sixties, her waist is definitely above her navel.

  17. KLSmith,

Given a choice between checking out michellesmirror.com or water boarding, I choose water boarding.

  18. I’m sure it sounds very un-PC to say so, but I am literally sick to death of looking at, and listening to, BOTH of them. I am at the point where I have to look away or change the channel. I’ve never had this kind of reaction to a president and first lady before, whether I was a fan of the particular president’s policies or not. I think it may have something to do with the utter saturation of fawning profiles, magazine covers etc. The only time I am able to tolerate either of them is when they are with their adorable daughters.

So I skipped coverage of the festivities today but still saw enough to form an opinion about the dress, of course! And the bangs. Liked the dress, without the belt. In general, I think Mrs. O is overly fond of belts, particularly wide ones. Not crazy about the bangs on her, but that’s just me. While I generally like her style, she has plenty of fashion “misses”
too and she is hardly the “style icon” we are constantly being told that she is.

It should be interesting to see this evening’s ball gown. I thought the white, off the shoulder Jason Wu gown that she wore in 2009 was a total miss…it was just too young on her.

  19. parker: actually michelle’s mirror (right leaning) has some pretty good stuff. It pokes fun at The Won’s, it’s not a fan site.

  20. “Yesterday a friend asked me about it and I said, “Why punish myself?” Then I realized that was rather combative, because after all she’s a big Obama fan, so I softened it …”

We all probably do it. Non-progressives that is. They don’t of course. They say what they think. Conservatives on the other hand say that they’d like to be free … if it’s alright with the progressive, that is.

We’re going to be strangled in the noose of our sensitivity to their sensitivities; and it will be our own doing.

  21. “We’re going to be strangled in the noose of our sensitivity to their sensitivities; and it will be our own doing.”

Shunning is the appropriate response. Exile to St.Helen’s is the proper punishment.

  22. She could be fairly attractive if she didn’t have such a damn chip on her shoulder all the time. What the hell does she have to be angry about, anyway?

  23. Ditto CV; I, too, am sick to death of them. I just cannot stand looking at or hearing anything coming out of their mouths. The same is true with Hillary now as well.

And, yes, I have told folks that if you voted for Obama you slapped the unemployed in this country is the face. Some folks are now not talking to me – and, you know what? I don’t care. period. (for some of them, I wish I had said something four years ago!)

The fawning, licking their boots, whatever you want to call it has been (and will continue to be) rather disgusting.

So, nope, no Obama inauguration for me. And, most likely, a self-imposed TV news blackout for the next couple of days.

P.S., the original Camelot was a myth, so was the Kennedy Camelot, and, I so wish this third Camelot was a fiction as well.

  24. I didn’t watch the inauguration. I did not vote for the man nor did I want him to be President. Why would I care about his inauguration?

His speech was as partisan a diatribe as has ever been delivered at an inauguration. He is spoiling for a fight and believes he has the upper hand. What would that do for me except make me angry?

I did, however, catch the start of the C-in-C Ball. Why, because it was on Fox in the middle of O’Reilly. After remarking that he wasn’t there to give a speech, Obama gave a speech filled with the usual empty, pompous rhetoric. But that wasn’t all. They had set up a video feed from Bagram AFB in Afghanistan. The CO of the unit congratulated the President on his inauguration followed by a series of enlisted people who took turns congratulating him. It was as egregious a demonstration of using our warriors to make him look good as I have ever seen. (And as a retired US Navy type, I’ve seen a lot of dog and pony shows for puffing up the big brass.) The whole thing was embarassing to watch.

    Gag me with a spoon!

  25. No amount of stylish clothing and wigs could make MO a good looking woman. I’m always struck by the MSM gushing all over her. They really don’t have any shame. For them 2+2 can be 5.

  26. 1) No inauguration for me! Nada. Not a bit. Didn’t want to be reminded that HE’s going to be Pres. for 4 more yrs.
I can say I will rejoice in next inauguration — because
he will be gone! But not going to jinx the election by saying anything else.
    2) Michele DID look wonderful. Best I’ve ever seen her! The coat dress was great and the princess seaming was beautiful and did wonders for her awkward figure — she has such a short waist — almost non-existent and huge hips. (She should get out and be active w/ the kids more. Just kidding ’cause I know it must be so hard for people in their position where just about every occasion — and there are ones everyday are staged around food and eating. Hard on a girl’s figure
And I liked the belt — or rather a belt. The one she had on was a little too ornamental — not sure if it was rhinesones or spikes on it — but it defined a waistline where there is not one. Thought the dress, as pretty and shapely as it is looked a little empty without a belt. I’m willing to bet it was gone because it was probably extremely uncomfortable for her because it was not around her normal waistline.
But hair and boots and all the rest were right on. I think the only time I remember her looking this good was when they had some heads of state from either Pakistan or india or somewhere in the region and she wore an apricot and gold gauzy sari typw od gown (not trad’l sari w/ tummy exposed — I wonder how that tradition evolved ’cause not a lot of women have a great waistline for that look).
    3) No more about inauguration for me. neo I love you but…
And certainly we’ll have to put up with I don’t know how many reviews of the whole thing w/ clips rerun endlessly.

Better they should focus on the all but ignored statement the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) released Friday:

“Putting the federal budget on a more sustainable path is likely to require a combination of policies, many of which may stand in stark contrast to policies now in place.”

  27. One clip I couldn’t escape before changing channel was one where a whole CROWD OF HOMELESS PEOPLE from a distant state (can’t remember particular one) were congregated on a street corner singing praises to you know who.

Wonder if George Soros flew them in on private jet. Somehow if he did it was written off as some business expense — so it’s money he’s not going to pay all those extra millionaire taxes (when are they going to get to billionaire taxes?)

Anyway, the irony of the homeless finding means to trek to Washington for O’s inauguration was not lost on me.

(And not one of these homeless people was w/o proper coats, hats, scarves, gloves for the cold weather. Amazing.)

  28. Luckily, I didn’t have to worry about accidentally seeing any of this, since I cancelled my cable TV subscription and turned in my converter boxes right after the election.

    MFM delenda est.

  29. “What the hell does she have to be angry about, anyway?”

For the first time she is now proud of her country; but she remains petulant that the peasants are not required to address her as your majesty.

“And not one of these homeless people was w/o proper coats, hats, scarves, gloves for the cold weather. Amazing.”

They are the pathetic shook and awe of BHO’s civilian defense force on par and as well funded as the military.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2N3OvqoJXDA

Love the camo pants, thank goodness their shirts are not brown…. btw, its not a racist thingy, its a misunderstanding of what it means to be a responsible and independent citizen.

  30. }}} Can’t we just say the oath still holds until the next president is sworn in?

Oh, I hope not. Not only because he doesn’t believe in oaths, but because I’m sure he’s going to do everything possible to make sure another president isn’t sworn in while he’s alive.

  31. }}} he’s not going to pay all those extra millionaire taxes (when are they going to get to billionaire taxes?)

Silly simon, billionaires don’t PAY taxes. They don’t have income. They have capital gains.

Only millionaires have incomes like the rest of the plebes.

  32. Didn t watch the inauguration, can t stand them on my TV & if I cannot quickly get the channel changed then I mute it.
Funny I was telling this to my cousin & she chimed in with
“I do the exact same thing” !

  33. “Michelle looked really nice.” Compared to what I ask you ?

Using her own judgment’ she wore the belt and the purple gloves.

Pretty is as pretty does. She isn’t and she doesn’t

    Moochelle is classless.

  34. I guess I’m a little out of it. I don’t know what a Dalek is… But the first thing I thought of when I saw her outfit was the witch’s guards in the Wizard of Oz.
