Sore winners on the left
I originally published this post on November 10, 2008. It remains very apropos today, so here it is again, with just a few words changed for clarity.
An excellent observation from Baldilocks:
Losers find it almost impossible to act like winners even when they win.
Since Obama’s victory, troll visits to right-wing blogs are up, dropping comments that show all the class of second graders in the schoolyard singing “Nah nah nah boo boo, stick your head in doo doo.”
You’d think they’d be happy to have won, with no need to waste time and energy on such entertainment. But it you’d think that, you’d think wrong. For a certain not inconsiderable segment of the Obamaphile population, the feeling of triumph goes hand in hand with the desire to spit on others in overwhelming delight at the sensation of victory. Not an admirable impulse to be sure, but an ancient one. By their fruits ye shall know them.
So that’s the original post from four years ago. In 2012 I’d like to add that this time the crowing is widespread not just in the blogosphere and comments sections, but among pundits on the left. The nasty campaign run by Obama in 2012 has certainly not had the effect of tempering pettiness and snark on the left; au contraire.
What’s more, in 2008 the left wasn’t sure how things would pan out for them, or whether Obama would be successful and win a second term. Now they know that it’s not necessary to be “successful” in the usual sense—for example, improving the economy—for the left to win. They believe they’re in the driver’s seat permanently.
That’s the source of their unbridled glee in 2012. This time around, they believe they’ll have all the time in the world.
Perhaps they’re right, perhaps not. Demographics favor them, it’s true. But black swans have a way of swimming into view when you least expect them.
Their behavior is what makes it all the more alarming.
I think they’re going to end up regretting their victory, like a bunch of teenagers who have sneaked out Daddy’s car and ended up in a horrible accident. There seems to be something about the Left that cries out for the calming restraint of conservatism. It’s not quite “Stop me before I kill again!” but there’s something going on there that’s in the same vein….

Nope, I don’t think so. Like I said on the other thread, they’re going to blame a million things except their political line, just as the Muslims blame their miserable existence in their countries on everything but the true culprit, Islam itself.
Changing from dependency politics to self-reliance politics is an act of deprogramming.
The left views politics as war, a social war, waged by “other means”.
It’s known [by anyone who has taken the trouble to even skim their literature and manifestos] to be a war to access what you have, to gain control of it unconditionally, and to eventually either dispossess you of it, or render your status in “law” as always contingent on some bureaucratic whim.
The left makes no attempt nowadays to disguise that fact. They don’t even bother with the old American founding document rhetorical veils which they used to drape over the substance of their claims.
And why bother? They don’t need to sell you on compliance if they can coerce, and feel sure of no extra legal “push-back”.
Yet oddly, dumbfoundingly even, conservatives seem to persist in having trouble in wrapping their minds around the concept that they, as in “they personally in their being and life ways” are despised and hated by the left, and will naturally be subjected to whatever trash talk the lefties think will aid them in demoralizing a despised enemy.
You would naturally think that the well of conservative indignation would have run dry long before now. And it would have, if conservatives had the courage to face the facts about what they have been confronting without all the excuse making and wishful thinking.
You want to be free. They have as much use for freedom as a dog has for a violin. What’s to argue over?
And why, oh why, the confusion and the hurt feelings?
Oh yeah. Because Aunt Minnie really isn’t such a bad person when she’s not busy selling us both into involuntary servitude.

Likewise, Neo, as you point out, one no longer has to have a successful presidency in order to be re-elected. If success in the presidency is no longer a metric by which a (Democrat) president is measured, then there is no incentive for economic or foreign policy success to be a Democrat presidential goal.

If not permanently, then for a long, long, LONG time.
How many Supreme Court Justices does the incumbent regime get to select? (Will the Stupid Party — you know, the ones with “R” after their name — put up even token resistance? No, they’re much more concerned with whether they’ll be tagged as reactionary or raacist.)
With a semi-permanent left majority on the Supreme Court, where just about everything is decided at this point, I contend yes, “they believe they’re in the driver’s seat permanently,” and with very good justification.
It sure looks to me that we’ve passed the point of no return.
If they regret it, that’s going to be a lot further down the road than we’d like.
I do not believe the left is permanently in the driver’s seat. The failures of their ideology will catch up with them. The objects (unemployment, debt, appeasement, Arab ‘spring’, over regulation, etc.) in the rear view mirror are closer than they appear.
Even my mother felt the need to crow this time. She’s the epitomy of the uninformed voter, but voted for Obama simply because she’s a Democrat. The best quote, “Romney isn’t any better!” Sigh.
I read a column over the weekend by a young woman urging restraint on her fellow liberals. She said that she was in despair when Bush won in 2004, and it would have been very, very hard to get over it if Conservatives had rubbed her face in it. She knows she’ll be ignored, but she did try.
On the bright side, my 11-year old son just spent his own money on a Ronald Reagan t-shirt. He can’t wait to wear it to school.
I’ve reached the point where I want a catastrophe. I want a stock market crash. I want another 9/11. I want massive unemployment. I want cities burning.
I want things to get bad enough that these liberal shits will finally realize what they’ve done.
I wouldn’t go so far as to want another 9/11, but I’m now firmly in the camp that the economy will have to collapse in order to have any chance of turning this around. We’ll have to survive it as best we can and try to pick up the pieces afterwards.
I’ve never hoped for this in the past because the odds aren’t with us. We’re more likely to end up with a Robespierre than another Washington.
But now I think the left’s strategy of crushing the private sector and forcing as many people as possible onto the dole has succeeded. They’re never going to vote to reduce their benefits. We’re beyond the point of being able to vote our way out of this.
I forgot to add: The sooner the collapse happens the better, before they get the chance to consolidate their power any further.
I’m as angry/depressed as anyone here, but I won’t wish for a collapse, and I certainly won’t wish for anyone to die. That’s how obnoxious liberals are; they make you WANT a disaster just to see the smug smiles wiped off their faces.
Even if by some miracle things get better, I’ll never become a liberal. I used to be one, and I ain’t goin’ back. But it doesn’t matter what happens – libs will NEVER admit defeat. Just watch MSNBC if you can stomach it. During the 2010 midterm wipeout, Olbermann and crew were smugly crowing about Christine O’Donnell’s loss, even though nobody outside of her own coven thought she would win.
I think a collapse is absolutely inevitable now, and it might have been inevitable even if Romney had won.
We’re borrowing 40¢ of every Federal dollar spent. That cannot continue forever, or even more than another few years. As Karl Denninger says, it’s not what you or I want, it’s the math. Math will not be denied.
So yeah, I say the sooner the better.
Waiting for the collapse is too passive. It that’s your game plan, you’ll be sorry.

The SOB is going to get nukes within 4 years, this seems almost a certainty. I do not believe he will be able to restrain himself from using them. And once that happens, the Dems are out.
First off, no one trusts the Dems any more to prosecute a war. Even the Dems don’t, they just stick their heads in the sand and exclaim that the war isn’t needed. No one really buys this.
Second off, Obama will dither and hem and haw, “What o what shall we DOOOOO?”, especially in light of his own pro-Islam attitude. But no matter how he responds, he isn’t going to do an FDR and go for a third term… he can’t.
So it’s clear that there will be a choice between a new Dem and a new GOP candidate…. and with a war or looming war, that’s going to go to the GOP, not to the Dems.
This ignores the overall elements of the situation which is that the economy will be continuing its endless slide downhill… THAT part of FDR’s legacy he WILL continue, which is going to create a lot of pissed off electorate between now and then. At some point “It’s all Bush’s fault” is going to become unacceptable a whine any more.
So, Smock…You think that when Ahmadspitooey unveils his Nukes that The Boy King Triumphant Obama will do anything more than get all scowly faced and finger waggly and warn The Jewish Entity NOT to take action…???
Focus: He LOATHS Israel. He LOATHS the America that you and I grew up(and still)LOVE. I doubt that the ****ing Majesty even dislikes Ahmadspitooey and the Mad Mullah.
