Remember South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford?
I guess his affair had some staying power after all, because Sanford and his Argentine girlfriend are now engaged to be married.
I don’t think most people would have bet on that outcome back in the summer of 2009 when Sanford’s bizarre disappearance, strangely inadequate excuses, and rambling press conference revealed his affair, broke up his marriage, and ended his promising political career. A trifecta.
If things had gone differently, Sanford might even have been a candidate for president in 2012. As it is, he’s just a historical footnote, albeit perhaps a happy one at this point—although I wonder whether his ex-wife and four children are equally overjoyed.
There’s nothing promising, political career or otherwise, about a married man whose love letters to his Pampas fox are in the form of e-mails. This suggests a careless attitude toward the way things work and an utter contempt for the concept of discretion.
The male body is designed to have an adequate blood supply for either above the waist or below.
Mr. Frank,
Clearly a feature of a critter not meant to multitask, explaining, perhaps, why men are the superior sex in very many ways.

Are you making a reference to Fanne Fox, the Argentine stripper whose claim to fame was being the mistress of Congressman Wilbur Mills [D-Ark], once Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee?

Gringo,
I had forgotten all about Fannie and it’s little wonder what with Argentine women playing such an inordinate role in the affairs of American politicians. Here’s a word association: you said Argentine stripper and I think, what else – Clinton.
Well, try this:

“I don’t think most people would have bet on that outcome back in the summer of 2009…”
It seems to me he obviously was willing to sacrifice a lot to be with her. There must have been something strong there. So I’m not particularly surprised at the outcome. He did it all for a reason. It kind of has shades or King Edward VIII giving up all his perks for the love of his life.
