After the fall
Remember when I took that awful fall? Now that it’s been nearly a month since then, I thought I’d report of my progress.
Most of the abrasions on my face are healed, with just a couple of red marks that have been getting fainter. There’s a pea-sized bump on my forehead that represents Ground Zero, as it were, of the impact. It’s been getting smaller and smaller, but slowly
My nose seems pretty straight, but it’s still a teeny bit swollen and a little bit numb. They say I cut a cutaneous nerve there, and they predict the feeling should come back within a few months.
My scraped knee is still healing, but that’s been the least of my worries.
I have to wear either a sunhat or sunblock on my face for another month or two. Since I’m somewhat allergic to the cream, I’ve used the directive as an excuse to go out a get a couple of snazzy hats with wide brims. I ordinarily never wear hats, but I’ve gotten a surprising number of compliments on these, although wearing them makes me feel too close for comfort to being one of the Ladies Who Lunch.
So all in all, the prognosis is good, although I’m left with the psychological residue from it all—fear. But I’ve been continuing to do my fast walking outside. But never never NEVER again will it be in the dark. Whatever was I thinking of?
That’s great. Very good news. Of course, if you could just take the apple away I could make my own evaluation.
That said I know, just know, you’d be purtier than a field of daisies in the spring time.
And as for the hats I am sure they are snazzy and cute. You probably could wear them to advantage. If the brims were floppy enough yé¸u could ditch the apple as sun screen too.
Glad to hear you are nearly mended, Neo 🙂
Flashlights and/or headlamps, milady, pierce the darkness.
I hope at least one of those hats has some apple blossoms!
Here’s a suggestion! I’m sure you’d look mahvelous dahlink.

I’m with you, my friend — even if we’re hardly acquainted (and not about to be acquainted!) — I’m pulling for you.
Good to hear my friend. Good to hear. 🙂
Dear Mz.”Ragamuffin” Landlady: GOOOOOOD’on’ya!!
An attractive woman, walking alone at night?
There’s a great likelihood that your highly unpleasant accident has saved you from even greater harm. A blessing in disguise.
As for what you were thinking, perhaps the severity of your injuries is an accurate barometer of just what it took to cause you to reconsider; what in today’s urban environment ranks as the height of foolishness?
We’re all our own worst enemies. Compared to the risks you were courting, you got off lucky. Someone up there is looking out for you, good lady.
Vaya con Dios, always.
I think you should get a glimpse girly purse to carry with your snazzy hats. Then you’ll be so bedazzling that you’ll give off your own light and can go back to walking at night. 🙂
Glad you are mending.
Neo,
Check out the legendary Tilley hats of Canada.

Geoffrey Britain: thanks for your concern, but there was no danger in that regard. First of all, it wasn’t completely dark, it was nearly dark. Second of all, it was in an extremely low crime, very safe, and highly populated area with lots of people walking around near me (couples, families, people walking dogs, people pushing kids in strollers). Not the sort of environment you’re talking about in any way.
Glad to hear you are healing.
That’s reassuring neo, I glad to see that you appreciate the spirit in which my constructive criticism was offered. We do care and are heartened to hear that you are healing.
“I’m left with the psychological residue from it all–fear. But I’ve been continuing to do my fast walking outside.”
Good for you!
“But never never NEVER again will it be in the dark. Whatever was I thinking of?”
I would hazard the guess that you were doing something you have often done in the past.
Be of good health.
Use some vitamin E on the scrapes. Helps to heal and avoid scarring. Heal well and watch out for gravity.
😉
First I heard of this (I’ve been sequestered in the wild-lands of Texas) , glad you are up and almost about.
Fear can be a good thing. Ever since I had my medical issue I always watched where I walked.
I think this explains why I have not fallen on any of my trips while others have.
Of course now having said that I will probably fall flat on my face going to the kitchen after I post this….
Thanks for the sitrep, neo. To be nearly free of all the scrapes, bruises, etc. by this time is a blessing. Since you walk fast, it’s a good idea to walk only in good visibility conditions. Keep on walking!
I’m really sorry to hear about this. I didn’t know about your fall. Wishing you a full recovery and best wishes.
Glad to hear you are getting over your encounter with terra firma. Dang that gravity thing!
Great to hear you are healing up! The human body is a truly amazing thing.
Now, post some pictures of you wearing your snazzy new hats!
I think the ‘nearly dark’ part of the episode you mentioned is important, because to me it seems like that’s the time your eyes are still adjusting to the dark, which makes for poorer vision than if it were already dark when you started walking.
Glad to hear you’re feeling better!
