Intrepid Middle East traveler and reporter extraordinaire Michael Totten has a new post up about radical Islamists in Tunisia.
This article convinces me that there are moderate Muslims out there, but they are a miniority that is being run over by the Islamists. It convinces me that our government should make it clear that we understand the aims of the Islamists and know they are incompatible with tolerance and peaceful international relations. That means we should openly give support to those who decisively RENOUNCE the doctrines of Whahabb and Qutbe. In turn we should withdraw all support from any government or group that adheres to Islamist doctrines, especially sharia.
Unfortunately, it would cost us dearly at the gas pump. And that is why we can’t/won’t do it. It is to weep!
Addendum to my prior comment: We are as Gulliver being tied down by the Lilliputians. In this case, however, we are tied down by the false idea of the watermelons in our midst that drilling for our own oil and gas can change nothing.
