‘Twas the Blogger’s Night Before Christmas
[NOTE: This little poetic effort of mine has become somewhat of a holiday tradition here. So here (with a few words changed for the sake of meter) it comes again—just like the holiday itself. Merry Christmas Eve!]
‘TWAS THE BLOGGER’S NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the ”˜sphere
Bloggers were glad to see Christmas draw near.
Their laptops were turned off and all put away
The bloggers were swearing to take off the day.
Their children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of extra time danced in their heads
With a father or mom not distracted by writing
No posts to compose, and no links to be citing.
But we all know that vows were just meant to be broken
And the vows of a blogger are sometimes a token.
There’s always a chance that some sort of temptation
Will rise up to make them of fleeting duration.
For instance, there might be found, under the tree
A sleek Mac; well, what better sight could there be?
And who could neglect it and wait the whole day?
It has to be tried out, one just can’t delay.
Or maybe somewhere there’s a fast-breaking story
Important, and complex, and covered with glory.
It can’t be ignored, there’s really no choice,
So add to the din every blogger’s small voice.
And then there are some who may just like to rhyme
(I’m one who at times must confess to this crime),
And it’s been quite a while since Clement Clarke Moore
Wrote his opus (though authorship’s been claimed by Gore)””
So it seems about time it be newly updated
And here’s my attempt””aren’t you glad you all waited?
Forgive if it sounds a bit awkward to read.
Writing, I set a new record for speed.
I had to get under the wire and compose it
Before Christmas Day. Now it’s time that I close it.
But let me exclaim (or, rather, I’ll write)
Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-night!
We’re anticipating the arrival of our youngest son and future daughter in law; but before I shut down the computer for a couple of days I wanted to wish everyone at neo-neocon & their families a Merry Christmas and/or Hanukkah. Cheers.
Merry Christmas neo-neocon.
You’re really just a child at heart. We should all be so fortunate to have moments of lightness.
Merry Christmas, neo-neocon! May your season be merry and bright.
A sleet Mac, yes indeed!
Merry Christmas, Neo and Merry Christmas to the best bunch of commenters on the web.

I admit to being completely turned off by the usual commercial Xmas excess. I plan to mostly hole-up until the New Year.
But it’s a spiritual time, despite all that, so I would like to share this fine example from the North with all here. Joy to your world!

God bless us, each and every one!
Neo:
Thank you for a great past year — not just the intellectual challenge, but the arts, cooking and other treats you send our way. Have a great Christmas. See you next year.

Very nice. Merry Christmas to you as well.
I’ve go to share an anecdote with you. We are hosting a young woman from Nepal for a month. She has almost finished her BA from an American college and was awarded a special scholarship that allowed her to travel abroad. She chose Germany, and a friend she had done a summer internship with asked us if we could help her out. She is delightful, down to earth, and curious. Last night after dinner, we were doing dishes and she said she liked washing dishes because it is nice to have plenty of water that was heated.
I think my biggest Christmas gift this year is being able to see my world through different eyes: the gothic churches, the half-timbered buildings, the supermarkets filled to the brim, and now even the reliable hot and cold water faucets. It puts the blogosphere in a different perspective and makes me appreciate it even more.
Merry Christmas, Neo!
Merry Christmas, Neo, and to all the other fine commenters here.

Merry Christmas to all!
Happy Hanukah
Here is my son’s Hanukah poem:
Gothanukah and the Dreidel of Doom
By Yair R.
I have a little dreidel
That is spinning with disease
It’s not made out of clay
But the blood of my enemies
The Dreidel of Doom was forged by Satan
To please my vengeful heart
But deals with the Devil can go sour in seconds
And rip your soul apart
He told me he would kill them
With plague and pestilence
And trap their souls in a Dreidel
Then said Dreidel would choose thy beneficence
Damn you O Dark Dreidel!
I made you out of hate
Damn you O Dark Dreidel!
You will soon decide my fate
“Gimel” means I live
“Shin” means I die
“Hay” means I can keep
One of my two eyes
“Nun” means I burn
For eight long days and nights
I don’t think I’ll survive
This dark festival of lights
The Dark Dreidel spins
As I cower in fear
A great miracle would be nice
But it won’t happen here
The Dark Dreidel falls and it’s “gimel” for the win
I awaited Satan’s decree
The Devil gawked at the Dreidel and shouted he
“Best two out of three!”
or
Possible Alternate Ending:
The Dark Dreidel falls and I’m free minus one eye
Which is really not so bad
In fact, come to think of it still ‘tis the best Hanukah ever had I
Merry Christmas. Isn’t it nice to be normal – and not a registered Democrat any longer? Merry!
Your blog is a gift to us. Thank you!
Wishing you Peace, Happiness and Good Health in the New Year.
