You won’t have Barney Frank…
A top adviser told the Globe that the new district in which Frank would have had to run next year was a major factor in his decision. While it retained his Newton stronghold, it was revised to encompass more conservative towns like Walpole while losing New Bedford, a blue-collar city where the Democrat had invested a lot of time and become a leading figure in the region’s fisheries debate.
Frank’s campaign manager last year said his withering 2010 re-election effort spurred the congressman to think seriously about retirement, even saying a few days after the election that it would be his last one…
Sowyrda said Frank wanted to hold off on a decision until the redistricting process was finalized.
“When Barney saw the district changed, his exact words to me were ”˜They didn’t do me any favors,’” said Sowyrda, who has remained an unofficial adviser.
typical bully, when it comes right down to it they really don’t like to fight.
Good riddance!
I met Barney once, when I was still on the other team, an SEIU member etc. etc, the first thing I noticed about him was that he had food on his shirt. I saw him again at another function and he was disheveled and spitting when talking, enough so that someone standing in front of him had to move away. What the hell was I thinking?
I’m sorry he will not be doing one more term. 15 to life is what I had in mind. . .
Good buy Barney… Hello Maxine! Welcome to the “new” face of democratic leadership and cronyism.
From the Globe article at the link:
Considering the damage Congressman Frank did to our country with his advocacy of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, my reply to the POTUS is, “thank goodness.”
Read Reckless Endangerment.
Read Reckless Endangerment
Just finished it. Infuriating, isn’t it? And from an NYT reporter (and another guy) no less.
For the latter reason I recommended it to two of my few liberal friends, who haven’t read it and no doubt never will.
“Reckless Endangerment” does go all the way back to the Community Reinvestment Act, and fixes a good deal of the blame where it ought to be placed. (I read it around a month or two ago.) A lot of that blame lies where the mainstream media refuse to tread [read: left-oriented policies such as CRA and subsequent pressure to lend to unworthy borrowers].
But much of that blame does have to do with human greed. Problem is, greed is part of the human condition, something to which lefties as well as righties as well as centrists are subject.
We need public policies that simultaneously maximize human liberty while at the same time controlling the abuses arising from greed . . . kinda like wanting an investment that’s super safe ^and^ promises super growth. Conflciting goals, the story of life on this planet.

When Barney saw the district changed, his exact words to me were ‘They didn’t do me any favors,’” said Sowyrda, who has remained an unofficial adviser.
Wasn’t Frank’s district previously legendarily (and ludicrously) gerrymandered? What drove the redistricting? Maybe the Dems (who I assume controlled it) were trying to send Barney a message.
Have y’all seen the map of Bawney’s district?
It’s an example of ludicrous gerrymandering. The cancer that is American politics is comprised of countless local tumors.
OB: Jinx! You owe me a coke!
You know, for once I actually agree with Obama.
Occam’s Beard:
Wasn’t Frank’s district previously legendarily (and ludicrously) gerrymandered?
Good memory. Gerrymandered indeed, in the state that invented gerrymandering. These days, there are states that have more egregious examples of the art.

What drove the redistricting? Maybe the Dems (who I assume controlled it) were trying to send Barney a message.
Perhaps. One factor driving redistricting in Mass is that the state is losing one congressional district. That means that at least one congressman will be out a seat. Regarding how alternative maps could have given Congressman Frank a more favorable disposition, I don’t know. But to cut Congressman Frank out of New Bedford, a place which I suspect has precincts in certain local cemeteries, certainly did not do him a favor, as Congressman Frank put it.
If some Mass Democrats were trying to send Barney a message, that would exhibit more sanity than I would expect from the Democratic Party in Massachusetts, which would send Dead Ted to the US Senate tomorrow if they could get away with it. I say this as someone with relatives trapped inside the Commonwealth.
Damn, I gotta be careful what I say around here; I’ve already got a monitor (on the other thread) and a Coke (Coke? Seriously?) on my tab.
But who can say Barney’s district was gerrymandered? It clearly was inspired by the blood trail of a wounded flea.
The current president, fellow Democrat Barack Obama, said, “…the House of Representatives will not be the same without him.
Finally, “Barry” strikes an optimistic note.
I’ve always been amazed that MA can elect the people they do to Congress year after year. Barney Frank was one of the primary examples of that.
What a disgusting man.
What a disgusting man.
Texexec, you always were given to overstatement.
Yes. How many have debased themselves in front of B.F.’s power?
To another thought, since the lefties have been making noise about the immorality of former Congresscritters taking lobbying jobs…we can anticipate Mr. Fwank being hired as a consultant to Chase or Citigroup.
I am afraid we will have him to kick around. Until the collapse, or until Mephistopheles calls him home.
It’s not Barney alone who’s disgusting. It is his electorate, too.
Maxine Waters is next in line for the ‘Barney Frank’ position. 🙂
BOHICA!
oh…
this fits the hierarchy
black before white
gay before hetero
woman before man
and it works vertical too in this admin
So a black heterosexual woman wins jackpot!
